Help with mag extension M2

Hi there

I'm in the UK and planning on buying a Benelli M2. I want to increase the number of rounds it will hold.

I've been told that to modify a 7+1 M2 requires me to saw off the original mag tube. Is this correct?

Does the original tube (whether 7+1 or 2+1) not just unscrew?

Does the nordic components extended tube fit on all M2's whether they are 7+1 or 2+1?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Unless you have a special version over there in the UK put down the hacksaw. The magazine cap unscrews and you take out the magazine snap ring. The extension will simply screw on the end of the current magazine tube and lock against the forend. Takes about 5 minutes and some snap ring pliers to make it happen.

Thanks agm65ccip

I thought it would be reasonably straight forward. Over here they tell us to take it to a gunsmith cos it requires specialist tools.

Thanks. I'll now try and source a s/h one; they're quite rare over here and about $2000 new over here.

Hi Tasum,

I run a Nordic 8+1 on my M2T. The tube sticks out a little bit past the barrel, but not so much that it looks odd. typically, I run 7+1... preferring not to jam all I can fit in the mag.

I also use a Nordic magazine clamp... which is a handy place to mount a light and a QD sling swivel mount.

Because the attaching nut is part of the Nordic tube, you don't use the Benelli nut at all. You do lose your stock front sling plate because of this... hence the reason for a QD on the magazine clamp.

One nice feature of the Nordic tube, aside from the cool spiral nut, is the removable threaded end cap.

As agm65ccip indicated, its a 5-10 minute affair to fit a Nordic tube... or most any other tube for that matter.

Cheers,

C

Creeper thanks for the info, sorry to only have come back on now. :)

Now got my M2 and took on approval a genuine Benelli mag extension tube which I think is for 6 extra rounds. As the M2 is a 3+1, then I think this will give me 9+1 in total.

Do you rate the genuine Benelli tube or are the Nordic Arms, DW, tacstar, etc better?

My kit came with the barrel clamp as well as the internal bits. Price was £120.

Should I keep it sealed up and sell it on and get one of the others above?

Cheers

Mmmm, we seem to have numbers all over the map here don't we.:D

If you can only get 2-3 in your magazine, it's because you still have a limiter in it. The M2T as sold in the US is 5+1.

If the Benelli tube is a 9+1 (a +4 extension), it's going to extend several inches past your muzzle, assuming the 18.5" M2T barrel length.

Here's the chart from Nordic for lengths and such. Bear in mind that when I state my tube to be 8+1, I am including the original 5 shell capacity... that Nordic tube is actually considered a +3 using their referrence.

I can't really comment from personal experiance on other tubes, other than the Nordic, which is a very high quality piece of kit.

"Common wisdom" is that Tacstar, and a few of the other lower cost tubes are not of adequate quality or as reliable as the Nordic, Benelli and DMW. Those would be the three I'd run with... IMO.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Thanks Creeper, for what I've paid I think I'll stick with the Benelli factory unit complete with clamp.

Can you recommend a sealant etc to apply to the inside of the clamp beofre screwing it to my barrel?

I have seen Loctite rtv (household silicone) mentioned, but that's hard to come by in the UK.

Anything else you can recommend?

Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand... you want to apply something to the clamp to barrel/mag tube contact surfaces?

That's a new one on me... never heard that before. What is the purpose... to "cushion" the metal to metal interface? To somehow provide "grip"?

Loc-tite blue (241/242) on the clamp threads yes... but silicone on the "clamping surfaces"....

Are you applying a small bead of silicone to the clamp and allowing it to cure completely... then installing it? Kind of like a gripper? I think what would happen is that it would decompose fairly quickly, leaving you with a loose clamp.

Perhaps someone else who's heard of doing this can pop in and explain the logic behind it.

Cheers,

C

By the way I can now clarify the Benelli capacity over here in the UK.

You can have a factory 2+1, 3+1 or a 7+1.

The 2 and 3 have removeable mag tubes, but the 7+1 FAC version has a fixed tube which can only be removed with a hack saw.

Uk laws are that a shotgun certificate holder is restricted to a 2+1 semi, but anything more has to be on a Firearms certificate.

We get in the UK whatever you guys don't want in the USA :)

Here's the link with the mention right at the end.

Hope this helps. It's to add grip and to cushion and protect the barrel's finish.

Interesting... and a long, contentious thread.

Sorry... although I imagine it won't hurt anything, there's no element of common usage or proof that RTV is a good, reliable idea for a clamp surface on a shotgun.

I've got 40 years of experiance as a MC mechanic and have gone thru a few hundred tubes of all types of silicone sealant... so I know what it's capable of, and not so capable of.

I suggest that if you do give it a try, you use a high temperature variety of silicone, and that you allow it to cure for at least 24 hours from "clamp-up".

Report back after a few thousand rounds... I'd genuinely be interested to hear what happens.

Cheers,

C

I have a brand new M-3 Benelli factory extension tube, you will need to find out if they are interchangable. If it will work for you make me an offer I can't refuse.

If you would like pix of the extension I can send you some.

Hi there

Thanks for the offer, but I've got the Benelli extension, but a very kind offer.

If I had been interested, would you have been able to ship it to the UK?

Job done. I've used some insulating tape for a little protection under the clapm. It seems to have done the trick.

Am I mising something because the sling plate moves on the tube retaining nut.

Was I supposed to tighten this up before fitting the tube to the nut?

Sorry to ask such a daft question, but i don't relish taking it apart again. redface.gif

I am thinking of selling my brand new Benelli tube kit if I can't remove the sling plate; i don't want a sling on my rifle.

Drop me a note of your email so I can email you as I can't send you a pm; not enough posts yet.:)
