I cant elaborate much on what the problem was because it was a long time ago. I think the Black magic's are new? so might be better than what they made in the past. I have used them a great deal in my Benelli Nova tactical, and they shoot great plus, a harder lead slug is used and for penetration at angle on game, this is your best shot. I mostly use their 1/3/8 oz loading and I don't intend to use much else. A serious hunting slug load especially for smooth bores.
