  2. Some prefer the choke be fixed. One less failure point. I like the interchangeable ones personally. I use a Briley choke wrench, that sucker isn’t coming out on its own. A good gun shop like Rose Action Sports can thread a barrel for a choke.

  3. The barrel weight is the same mostly. The only difference is the 11701 doesn’t have interchangeable chokes. The 11701 comes with a neutered receiver extension that will not allow the collapsible stock to collapse. It’s a big job to replace this. All newer M4’s come a with a polymer trigger frame. Other than that, the parts are identical.

  4. Clacker - Don't change your ammo, trim your spring! Here is what Nordic Components says when installing their extended mag tubes. This step is after the new tube is installed, the follower and spring are installed with the excess spring hanging out of the end of the uncapped mag tube: At this time the spring will need to be trimmed. On semi-automatic shotguns especially, the magazine spring length can be critical for proper function (duh...). We recommend that approximately 16" extends past the end of the magazine tube extension as a starting point. We do not recommend trimming shorter than 12". Trim the spring off at this point (16" starting point), and turn the open end in and down so as not to bind with the magazine cap. When I had the Nordic Comp 10 round and 12 round tubes installed this is the process I followed and it worked just fine. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to bend the bitter end of the spring inward and downward. Tell you the truth, I'm not sure which spring I'm using now, I believe it's the OEM 7-round spring. As you can see it only extends 9" from the end of the tube...maybe it's been compressed over the years -- not that I want to start a physics discussion on the properties of spring compressibility... . Bottom line, I've never had a failure of the last round to drop onto the lifter and load, and I've done a lot of shooting with only 1 or 2 shells in the tube.

  6. If I ever get that recoil system, hopefully it’ll take another 10-20% worth of recoil off of the package. Faster you can recover from each shot, the faster your follow up shots can be.

  7. When you shoot, keep one round tucked behind your right ear, kinda James Dean style...

  8. Give it some time. The supplies of three position recoil tubes will return. Everyone bought them up recently with the run on guns.

  9. @ClackClackBAM Well I just went to the range this evening and tried my M4 for the first time since getting it, and I felt the limitations of a smaller magazine capacity. Personally, I will be overjoyed as soon as I have my Carrier Comp tube on hand!

  10. I just bought the M1014 and I'm finding it impossible to find a 3 position recoil tube for the adjustable stock. At this lot I'll take anything other than the one position it came with. Any help would be appreciated.

  11. Thank you everyone for all the replies. I will look on Gun broker and Calguns.net as you guys have suggested if I can get good price since I just bought it and never fired it yet. But, definitely will not sell it for much lower price, rather I'll upgrade it with extended mag tube with other parts to make it 922r compliance and keep it. Once again, I do appreciate ypu guys for all the kind help and advice.

  13. Dumb move by the step son.. But.... I swear its getting harder and harder not to break some sort of a law every time you step out into the world. Reciprocity laws have me stopping at just about every State to relocate my weapon. Out of the holster into the trunk with a padlock...and repeat. and pray I dont get stopped at a reservation say bye- bye to gun forever legal or not. I have to carry an encyclopedia of fish species with me and spend 2 hours researching what bait or lures I can use, and try and remember 100 rules and location cut offs just to fish. I have fish and game hiding behind every blade of grass with binoculars waiting for me to cross the stream at the wrong time or place (sometimes feet in difference) to issue me another citation. Cant go to the range without some idiot adjusting sights or loading a mag while on a "range clear/cold" and cant go into the woods to shoot without driving 6 hours and hiking another 3. Off the grid living seems more and more appealing.....there are places the law wont go in my state and my compass keeps pointing that way.

  14. Get over yourself. No one knows your age or cares. So if being referred to as "dude" or anything of the like is remotely offensive to you, you might want to avoid the internet. This isn't safe territory. Respect is earned and rarely just freely given.

  15. No, you are wrong. It does put yourself at risk for prosecution if you're caught. The consequences are written within the law, they are not implied or insinuated. They are written in the statute. It's not hype to be afraid of felony prosecution. There is risk if you don't comply. Don't pretend that there isn't. If you think that there's not a snowball's chance of you ever getting caught then, go ahead, it's your ass on the line. But don't expect that everyone should agree with you. My take on your attitude is that you don't like the law, you think it's absurd to have to replace perfectly good parts, and therefore, you don't want to follow it for those reasons. Also, it's plain to see from your posts, that it angers you to read that a whole lot of people are afraid of being caught, and for that reason alone, they will comply. You choose to rail about people who are following the law and warn others, either from fear or maybe just because it's the law. You got pissed off because you didn't get the answers from people that you wanted to see. Finally, when someone explains it to you like you're a 3-year old who wants to know why they can't have another piece of candy, THEN you're Ok.
