  1. Three different dealers have told me there will be a 3.5" Vinci in 2010.

I'm sure the Cabela's guy could be right, but from what I have heard, the Vinci has been a long time R&D project, designed to be simple and less expensive to manufacture, so that Benelli Italy and Benelli USA can offset some of the crippling effects of the horrible exchange rate.

I have heard that many years of R&D went into the Vinci, so again, I doubt the 'throw it against the wall' theory, but it may be totally correct :)

  2. I've never removed one, but I think it's an awful process that involves taking off the end piece by heating it up (to break the Locktite seal) and unscrewing the threaded cap :(

I'm sure someone else will reply with better info, but I think that is the process....

  3. Given that this was posted in the 'Waterfowling' section, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess he is hunting waterfowl :D

I do like the Primos chokes mentioned above. Carry both and you are good to go.

I also like Briley extended chokes in IC and Mod. I will carry both most days.

If you are going to shoot Black Cloud, don't use ported chokes!

  4. We also got harassed by three greenhorn GW's for in excess of two hours after taking out.

Could you provide a few more general details as to what LE was 'harrasing' you about?

It appears we are experiencing max enforcement of F&G laws out here in Cali for whatever reason. Some feel it is a financial move to raise funds from fines.

LE is 100% legit with their moves, but many hunters who are not used to max enforcement are getting cited for things they didn't used to, such as possession violations, daily bag violations, etc.

    Just curious Tuck :)

  5. can a turkey choke be too tight?! even with 6 shot?! carlson makes a .640 constriction for a 12 gauge.. too tight or is there such a thing?

For what gun? I don't see a .640 listed for a Benelli, but I think they do make them, I recall owning a .640 a few years back, unported, thick choke for sure. I also recall the patterns were blown out even when using #6's.

I think much depends on the instructions for use of the choke and the ID of the gun.

Being a turkey hunting forum, I'm only guessing that you are not planning to shoot steel shot though said .640. The choke might even say lead only or have instructions to that extent.

Yes, some of the very tight chokes are called 'card shooting' chokes, and can give great patterns with very small shot. Not sure I've even seen a card shooting choke for 6's, but I recall them for 7.5's and smaller.

    Kick's makes them:

  6. I haven't seen this. Do you have an article somewhere that shows this occurred?

Fair enough, though a legal loop-hole is sure sh!tty, especially when that same loop-hole can now be used everywhere else in the entire nation. I sincerely hope they find fault in what he's doing in order to prevent this from happening everywhere else.

I'm not opposed to logic or discussing things based upon fact, but saying that the area should be closed because of a slob hunter as you put it, seems extreme. How about they bust the one slob, if the one slob exists, and punish that person to the fullest extent of the law, rather than punishing law abiding hunters? What is irrational with that thought?

    Nothing at all.

Some interesting points - good reply :)

Don't need an article to see what I see every day - 1000's of private acres being tended perfectly for waterfowl - hunted lightly - well cared for - but I think this is pretty specific to my area so maybe not a great overall model for everyone.

From what I have read, it is not just a few slob hunters, it is a pretty regular problem that finally boiled over into the extreme measures taken by the landowners.

But, I will certainly agee with you in that it is far better to correct the acts of just a few than to take drastic measures that affect so many. If it can easily be corrected, why was it not done before it got out of hand?

Who sold the land to these evil men? Who built their houses? Where do these evil men shop? What happened to the commission earned by the sale of the land?

If MT didn't want these guys, why did they invite them in?

But, it's your state, and it looks like you have plenty of signatures to proceed, so I wish you luck!

  7. I don't think the law needs your signature on that one.

What they do need is proof of their case against me.

Private clubs and big money are ruining waterfowling and many other forms of hunting in this country.

I know you don't agree with that, but your opinion means as little to me as mine does to you. Of this I am certain. :p

One trail cam takes care of that!

I disagree. Private clubs and private farmland are saving waterfowl in many areas. That they hold birds and prevent the general public from getting their easy whacks at them is irrelevent to the overall biological picture. Public refuges do the exact same thing, yet where is the outcry?

Our waterfowl association, CWA, is very active in working with private lands to create the best habitat possible. The public funds available are a drop in the bucket needed to really protect waterfowl, so the private sector must be relied upon for any significant progress to be made.

Out west, public land offers little to wildlife. Little food, little habitat, little protection. Private lands offer much better habitat. Access to private land to hunt is easy to find here, just bring your checkbook.

And I'm surprised that you are acting as shallow and transparent as you appear to be. I value everyone's opinion and will not automatically reject any opinion that is grounded in fact and/or logic. Sad to see that you do not follow the same basic premise :( I guess you and I really are very different....

The way I see it is this; Schwab protects thousands of acres of wetlands that could easily be turned back into crops. The ducks get fat and sassy on Schwab's land, and then sometimes, they fly right over to my blind where I get to shoot Chuck's ducks.

Simply put, the ducks live a better life and return to the breeding grounds in better shape because of the fat cats. For this, I thank them, I don't sign petitions to allow slob hunters to float around and shoot houses.....

  8. So basically you're saying "It's not in my backyard so I'm ok with it." Er... ok.

No. I meant what I wrote. Maybe not reading what people write is part of the problem

Let me repeat. If the conduct is unlawful, I'm against it. If the conduct is lawful, I will not sign a petition against it in this case :)

  9. I'm glad someone did a little research :)

While Huey and Chuck are certainly loaded and exist on an elite level of waterfowlers, they are generally well liked in my area, as each hunt in the Sacramento Valley. Chuck has several clubs in the area, and I think Huey hunts with Chuck or has his own club.

Both donate time and money and hunts to support waterfowling, so I'll give them a pass and not sign the petition just yet :D

Is this loophole illegal? Are they breaking a law? If so, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

If they merely found a legal way to cure a problem, well, that's the American way, and I for one love America!

  10. Bashing on the first post has never gotten desired results, or solved any problems. All it does is throw your credibility in the toilet..

    x 2 of what he said :)

I've never heard of a Nova stock just 'breaking'. I suspect you broke it by using it improperly, then tried to slip one past Benelli, they didn't buy it, and now you are upset.

Let me give you a little tip, many of us try to slip one past the goalie. It works sometimes, but not always :D

I'd buy a new Nova in another configuration, like a slug Nova, then swap out your barrel and sell the slug barrel here or on-line. At least that way, you can recover some of your loss!

  11. MH, No flats on the outside of the assembly, must be the oldest one. It's an H&K SBE. No issues with the spring at this time. Might be better off to wait until I have a new one in hand before attempting.

Are the threads RH or LH to remove the assembly?

    Thanks!

Sounds like you have the old tube nut. Read the very good post below for one way to remove the old plug. I was not that fortunate with the first removal - my GS called and said he tried everything, and it wouldn't budge. I already had the new 17mm plug, so I told him it was fine to destroy the original plug to get it out. He flattened both sides and was able to remove it that way.

The plug turns out counter-clock wise as I recall.

    Good luck!

  12. What does the recoil tube nut look like?

If it's hex, it is most likley 17mm and can be removed after heating to break the locktite. I've never used locktite to reassemble, but Benelli may recommend it.

Put a screw or something in the drain hole so the spring doesn't go flying!

If it's flush, you have the oldest tube nut and may need a gunsmith to remove.

I'd get a new recoil spring from Wolf for the reassembly.
