  1. Another variable between the 3" and 3.5's shells is the pattern results. From a SBE II and BPS I have always gotten better pattern with the 3" shells. This is with factory, BrileyX2 (LM, MOD), and Terror.675 choke tubes. From pattern board results, I do not use 3.5" shells anymore.
  2. I sold the SBE II I owned. I tried the factory, Briley and Terror chokes tubes, but the patterns I was getting with large shot were still very poor. I never did really like that shotgun. I purchased a Xtema 2 w/out kick off. Recoil is nill. The recoil spring is easy to clean, and the pistol only takes a few minutes. I have hunted with mine here this season, and on a 2 week hunt to North Dakota. It has been flawless and eats everything from light target loads to heavy goose loads. Patterns are excellent with factory chokes. IMHO-The Xtrema 2 is a great shotgun.
  3. I saw the same thing happen on a Gold this weekend. The quality which marked the A-5 and Superposed are long gone. Now we get offered overpriced alloy cookie cutter shotguns from gun companies. Isnt advancement great.

    M2 or Cordoba?

When you do buy......... Save a few hundred and buy the M2. You will be happy. I wasted money on the Cordoba and posted about it here. The ports may look "cool" but they do not reduce recoil, they simply make the thing Louder. Extended chokes tubes are not a big deal. You can buy factory or aftermarket for any shotgun made today. Mine had trouble cycling even 2 3/4 1 1/8 loads. Overall after buying ,and using the Cordoba I consider the press surrounding it to be pure hype and the shotgun overpriced BS. IMO- The M2 does everything better You asked about the SBE II. Mine is flawless with 3.5 and 3" shells. It will cycle 1 1/8 shells just fine. It will Not cycle 1oz or 7/8 loads. The 1oz and 7/8 are what I prfer for SC and FITASC. Many clubs in Tournaments adhere to the 1oz rule. However... The SBEII is not designed to be a target shotgun. If you are looking for a do-all shotgun I would suggest the M2. With trap and other gun games in mind, I would actually suggest a gas semi-auto. 5. The tried and proven goose calls have already been used this year. I do have a new RNT Daisy Cutter and a Feathered Frequency that are just waiting for opening day.
  6. With steel shot, I hope your not serious.
  7. I have the same shotgun's, with the same barrel length as you. I used my SBE II's all last season on hunts here, to Alberta and two OOS hunts. This year to Alberta, and early goose season. I have tested"several chokes and loads at the pattern board. Heres what I have found. 1. The factory chokes are not worth a crap. If it wasnt for resale value, I would throw them in the garbage. 2 Kent shotshells are cheap junk. I have not seen them pattern anything worthwhile. That is from from a SBE II, a M1, and BGH. 3. With steel. The Best patterns have came from Federal Ulta Shok in 3.5 and 3" loads. 4.WW SWAT did great with slow steel. Crappy with fast(1550 to 1700) steel. 5.The WW Supreme pretty did poorly with everything. 6. The Patternmaster was pathetic with any load I tried. 7. Briley X2 LM gives excellent results with both the slow and fast steel/small and large shot size. 8. Best results have been obtained with the Terror .675 with 1550 3.5 BB's and #1's, and 3" #3 reloads at 1700. Your shotgun may/will be different. Edit Briley X2 LM also gives excellent patterns with with Hevi-Shot 3" #2 and #4's. [ 10-16-2005, 08:48 PM: Message edited by: Choclabman ]
  8. If your looking for online advice you might want to also check out sites such as Flocknockers , duckhunter.net and Waterfowler.com. All three have Pro trainer's and vets as well as active FT/HT runners as active members. I have trained well over 30 Labs over the years for FT, HT in the AKC, and UKC. Nine have been my personal dogs. I'll say this. I use and prefer the Amish method. Every dog does not fit into a certain training regiment. Every dog has their own personality. Take your time with him. The biggest mistakes are rushing and ignorant low life bozo's who try and overcome fear with force. Its not going to happen, and will only cause the dog to shut down, and wash out. Hope those sites help. Have fun and enjoy the new Family member. 9. threeshot, It's not just the older ones. I have 2 M-37 Classic's( both made three years ago) that rival, if not surpass my M12.
  10. I had not heard that about the swivels caps. But I have been away from the internet for awhile. Thanks for the link. I used my 2 SBE II's last season, and this spring for Turkey. Swivel caps still look good, and POA on both is Dead On. I have NO complaints.
  11. What;s wrong the the end cap swivel? Hush Swivels work wonderful on mine. I do agree about the chokes. Flush mount chokes, should be outlawed. [ 06-26-2005, 02:17 PM: Message edited by: BLKLABMAN ]
  12. I love semi-auto's and SxS's. They are great for geese, ducks, Quail and Turkeys. But when it comes to defending my family, a Wilson Combat made over 870 sits beside the bed.
  13. I'm sad to hear this. Ithaca is as American as Apple Pie. I own several M-37's The shotguns they have been turning out in the last few years have been on the other side of the world from cheap. Steel part's, handfitted. Thrown together, plastic parts having, cookie cutter shotguns they were not. Finding dealers was a pain however.
  14. Very nice looking.
  15. The Cordoba is billed as a clays/hunting hybrid. It's loud and proud. Hearing protection should be used 100% of time as Scott Vix stated, no matter what you are shooting. More so with the dadjim ported guns. Clays? Yet as a recent once owner, mine would barely handle 1oz loads. Not good with the FITASC 1oz max rule. IMHO- Stick with the M2, and be happy.

    SBE II TURKEY

Either the .675 Terror or the .655 Terror. I your a duck/goose hunter I would suggest the .675 because it can do double duty. The .655 to me is one dimensional. With the .675 and Federals new 12ga 3.5 Hi Velocity Flitecontrol rounds, I am getting 96% at 40 yards. A North Georgia gobbler felt the effects of it this morning.
  17. sfd112 The SBE II is a great shotgun. I mainly shoot 3" loads(steel, Kent TM) for hunting but went with the SBE II because of fit and the way it breaks down. The barrel and top receiever are one piece, making cleraning a snap. Very relaible shotguns, that you dont have to baby. You said you wanted to some clays shooting with it. Mine will cycle 3.5's down to 1oz loads. Never have had any luck with 7/8. But it is a hunting shotgun not a clays. I think you will be very happy with it.
  18. Hush Swivels work great.
  19. I had no luck with the Crio chokes/patterns and turkey loads either. The Terror .655 fixed that. The Terror .675 is pure terror on geese. With steel and Kent TM, the Crio chokes patterned pretty good. Jeff by all means knows his stuff, and makes some great products with the SRM Terror's and Sure-Cycle kits. Some Xtrema's did have POA issues. The one I had and sold at a huge loss shot 10" left at 40 yards. I think Ned's nephew had one that shot 12+ inches. Have you tried calling or e-mailing him and asking for futher information on this?
  20. Are you serious?!?!? My 391 sporting is a bloody puff cake to shoot, no recoil, very fast action. I'm not very recoil sensative, but my II does kick more than my 1 (has an x-coil on it). I shot some 2 oz. kent TM loads from my 1 on a goose hunt two years ago, ripped the skin from my hand. I had blood all over the stock but i was too cold to feel the pain. Those mortar rounds aren't fun. Yes, I am serious. The SBE II with 3" rounds to me, does not recoil any harder than a gas tube 391. You've been hanging out with Skack for too long. That and your an Aggie Grad!! hehehehe [ 03-21-2005, 05:12 PM: Message edited by: BLKLABMAN ]
  21. Drundel, I regret to say... I did not tell the whole truth above. I actually have four children. 2 BLF's, 1 YLF, and 1 CLF. The Yellow and chocolate are my wifes. These four are very needy are require lots of belly rubbings and ear scratching's. The upside is, that they love to go hunting with us, and love the run Field Trials. So as you can see, adding a fifth right now might be a bit much. hehehe
  22. Scott, To answer your question. Mudhen did an excellent job in answering, and nailed alot of the points. I'll just add a few. I make a good living, as does my wife. We have no children. As long as it does not bother the bank account, some of the pleasures in life are about want's. not needs. I did not need a Cordoba, but wanted one. Except for the light load issue I am very pleased with it. Let me put some heavy loads thru her, and I think it will come around. The price between the camo SBE II and Cordoba is not that different, My next purchase is a 682 Gold E that my wife wants. Does she need it? No. Does she want it? Yes. So we will buy one, have it modified to fit her, and she'll shoot the crap out of it. Life would be boring without alittle spice. The Cordoba is a Fine shotgun. It is one, I have very high hopes for.
  23. You can also use a Browning X-Cellerator sling. It is nice, and comes with Hush Swivels. Forgot to add. The X-Cellerator is the camo model from the duck commander series. I bought it only because that is what the store had, that fit my SBE II. I have been very happy with it. [ 03-17-2005, 04:56 AM: Message edited by: BLKLABMAN ]
  24. DUKFVR, They are the same. Except the the Cordoba has the black receiever and the stock has white non shiney(sp) spots in it. Really kind of cool looking. Drundel, My SBE II will cycle 1oz loads also. My SS will cycle 7.8 no problem. I'm going to run some turkey loads thru the Cordoba this weekend, and see what happens. That is just as soon as I run up to Benton, and buy some type of rest for it.
  25. I think the SBE II recoils like a gas tube, in that it doesnt kick. But.... Perceived recoil is different for everyone. If the recoil is that great to you, you might think about going to a 391, or other gas operated semi-auto.
