and i shot some 3.5" and the nova held it just fine and didn't throw me like a couple of other pumps i shot. also they have a unit you can add to the nova to help you with recoil and will also help if you have a longer lop as well

    the 870 is a **** of a lot cheaper

I got there as it was breaking daylight. I blew an owl call and nothing. I waited and blew it again...nothing. I was at this gas line about 30 yards wide with woods on either side. I move on up the gas line and by now its really getting light.Well I heard some crows off in the distance so I thought Id try the crow call. I hit it hard and GOOOBBBLEEE. He was on down the gas line and sounded like across the creek. I moved on that way and hit the crow call again. Again he gobbled back. He still sounded further across the creek. This is where it goes south.....I wanted to get as close as possible to him so he would come on in before he got henned up. I moved on down a little further and hit the crow call again.....nothing...I was like what the crap. So I said well maybe he will holler back at a hen. So I got the slate and hit a few soft yelps...well no sooner than I hit the last note, one flies down from the same side Im on and lands about 45 yrds away...well as he lands, the one that had been gobbling flies down and lands beside him. So here I stand with shotgun slung over my shoulder and decoys in a bag, with 2 longbeards not 50 yrds away...I was hosed...I just stood there and one started puttin real light and they just eased off. I set out the decs and called and then got up and tried to get out in front of them and called some more but nothing. ...it was really dishearting...if I would have just sit down when he gobbled that second time, he would probably have flew right down to me.Im pretty sick over it to tell the truth. sorry so long Im just still pumped.

When they are that close and you know how far away they are or have some idea it is better to setup. Remember in early season there aren't many leaves on the trees and the turkey's are closer than you think. Wait a couple days and then try again. Also once a turkey is spooked he most likely wont gobble the rest fo the day. They always say bet on the turkey. Goodluck to you and I hope to encounter some action like yours on saturday as it is our opener.

Best call for a beginner. Lil Deuce by HS strut. Nice soft sound and very forgiving if you make a wrong move. It comes with directions on how to make the different types of calls. Turkeys have excellent hearing and eyesight. I have had a friend have a bird walking away from him at 50 yards and then try and call to him and it turned right around new right where he was and began an alarm putt. Movement should be little at most.

On the other side of the creek is the property line and another hay field. On top I have a 150x75 yard alfalfa/clover field surrounded by a 5' wide cedar/brush fence row. I built a blind in the corner of the fence row 32 yards from where the birds enter, which is a trail heavily marked with gobbler tracks and droppings. Just on the other side of this field it rolls down hill with 30 yards of cedars and briars, then 80 yards of hardwoods until it hits the creek. The birds roost in these hardwoods, between the horizon and midway down the ridge, and sometimes (not sure what time of day) feed in the alfalfa field. Last year I set up on the creek and they all flew over the fence and into the other hay field....POW, neighbor filled his tag! Should I set up in the fence row inside of the field, down in the cedars, or try to slide down into the hardwoods? I'm a newbie and don't know if they can be called uphill into the alfalfa field after fly-down.

definately a good idea to try calling them uphill. Sounds like this piece of property is a tough little spot to hunt and can go either way. I would try setting up a decoy in the field and using a tree yelp before fly down. This way they no were you are and the decoys are in place to let them see something. Just a few suggestions. Remember they say bet on the turkey. Goodluck.

Sadly, I must report there were no major malfuntions.

    No butt pad falling off.

    The safety was perfect.

I will have to agree the comfort tech system was definately not what I thought it was. I had no problems with the action, however I would like to know if anyone has heard anything on when a mercury recoil reducer mgiht be available or if one is going to be available in the future. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and feel that benelli has done a fine job with this product. To the guy from California if you cant read the directions that come with the gun regarding assembly probably shouldnt be buying one in the first place.

The camo film was perfect right from the box.

The instructions were fine, but I would prefer a DVD and/or a representative of Benelli to visit my home and assemble the gun for me. For $1600 I deserve better

I do love the composite trigger assembly - especially how they snugged the cartridge drop lever closer to the trigger guard. I just wonder how long the cheap plastic will last

The point of aim was dead on - no need to adjust drop and/or cast.

BUT, I still have Benelli nailed  My choke tube wrench does not fit the full choke. I had to use one of my 6 other choke tube wrenches. I've got them now. They better reply to my 8 e-mails  I want a whole new gun

I can't believe a $1600 gun has such a crappy choke tube wrench! Sheesh - sheet metal? I paid $1600 for sheet metal?

I can't even use the gun now - I have to wait for a new wrench.

    Anyone know a good lawyer?

I have been wronged - they owe me big time.

I am going to boycott Benelli - no new Benellis for me for at least 30 days - I'm not kidding - I'm hopping mad.....

A very easy nice soft sounding slate call for the money is the little deuce by hs strut. A lot of those higher frequency crystal and aluminum calls are great locaters. I will have to agree with tucker though the diaphram is by far the best call for close situations. If you can't figure it out, practice practice, practice.
  8. I am currently using winchester 3.5 number 5's at twenty dollars for a box of ten using a carlsons nonported trky choke. This is putting roughly thirty pellets in the head at forty yards with 5-6 in the kill zone. Any other chokes or shot out there that anyone has heard of to get better reults.

He calls yesterday to Benelli and they tell him it may be sixty more days. SO my question is does anyone have a dealer that this gun might be in stock.

Thanks for your time, and happy hunting

I picked one up about two weeks ago. I think its called wooten sporting goods. My dad and I each picked up one for 1250 apiece.

Admittedly, recoil on the test bench is annoying, but when geese and ducks are coming, it isn't even noticed.

The SBEII is a lightweight gun. It's going to seem to kick harder if for no other reason than that.

    You're 20. You're a man.

very true i guess it just seems alot worse when you are trying to pattern it. I actually noticed that it kicked a lot harder than what I had before, but my dad is the one who is more upset considering he shot a 3.5 out of it and it split his lip, he is also about 6 fott 205. Just some food for thought.

I have a remington 11-87 and I feel that shooting 3 inch mags out of that kicks butis nothing like the recoil of the super black eagle 2. I plan on using it for turkey hunting so recoil isn't really an issue but i also would like to use it for goose hunting and I don't want to get pounded all day if you know what i mean.

    How old are you?

im almost 20, thanks for the advice any idea when one of those mercury recoil reducers will be available.
  14. My dad and I recently purchased the super black eagle two. Upon shooting it we noticed it kicks like ****. We know a guy who has the mercury recoil system in his Super black eagle. Is this compatible with the super black eagle two or has benelli not developed one for this one yet?
