  1. Just tested out the SVL Limbsaver slip-on (medium)...SBE II w/steadygrip, rhino 0.660 choke...as we all know, original equipment pad is pretty stiff...the SVL made a considerable difference...could've shot 3 1/2's all day....

  2. My attempt was with 1" for sure because the steady grip stock has the tactical euro -style side mount slit for a 1"belt...

The only thing I'm not sure about is if they were "Hush II" vs some earlier run...when install, looked just like Mudhen's but rubbed when the swivel would rotate...

  3. that's strange...I tried out what I thought were the Hush II's at the local shop...was able to attach but rubbed as the swivel rotated...was there any earlier version of the Hush that was a bit bigger?...

  4. the plastics are a little to big; the TOCs and Uncle Mike's metal swivels fit but damage the cap finish on SBRE II...I corrected the problem with an electric tape wrap on the TOC...doesn't look too bad.

  5. ...rented the DVD with no expectations (other than some positive reviews)....completely blew me away...the guy was a freakin' closet case...like a gay hairdresser that missed his bus back to san fran...ended up wandering around in denali...left me speechless...favorite parts were many but particularly enjoyed the old timer's comment surmising that the bear 's left him alone thinking he might be "retarded or mentally ill"...

well worth renting on DVD so you don't get the large number of commercials and edits..

  6. Unbelievably cool....don't know much about this guy...what the h' is that front-end...a flash suppressor / brake?, a choke?....is it integral to the barrel?...

    my, my...very nice beast.

ps...new poster question...re: UBB image posting...how do you (or can you) post pics resident on your hard drive using the site's UBB codes, or do I have to upload the pics to a URL somewhere?....tks

  7. I'm sure they will...never been burned buying on the wires...

...really too bad...nice pad...guessing it only works with the non-comfortech stock...hope they come up with a plug-in version for the steady grip...

don't know what you have, but recall you might be looking for one...lemme know..happy to ship it your way as send it back to SVL....believe my cost was around ~$45 but they gave me someone else's invoice, so I'll need to confirm on Monday....

  8. Problem confirmed...SVL Limbsaver recoil pad #10402, advertised for the SBE II / Nova, IS NOT compatible with the SBE II Steady Grip stock...They will need to come up with a self-seating (gasketed) plug-in version.

  9. Well...the SBEII pad came in the mail today....installation is not obvious...comes with two large (~#10, 1") self-tapping screws, a plastic adapter plate and no instructions...best I can tell, the pad only plays with the conventional SBE II stock, not the steady grip...i.e., looks like you're supposed to run the screws through very undersized clearance holes in the pad / base to tap into the adapter stacked on the original synthetic stock pad mount...expect to confirm tomorow AM, but at this point, looks like the Limbsaver pre-fit is not compatible with steady grip stock...Anybody have any exp with this?

  10. Hate to admit it but I'm hung up on the last step of stripping procedure. Gun is new / not yet fired...wanted to fully clean components to clear factory corrosion preventatives.

Got to the last step with ease...removed the retention pin per the manual, depressed the ejector button to pull the trigger guard assy forward...won't budge a micron...yanked, pulled and cursed...nottin'....stopped short of taking out the tool box to dig out a pry bar...

anybody out there have experience with this procedure on a new gun?...Is the recv'r housing just too tight to let go?...is the manual "forgetting" to mention a critical step, i.e., steady grip stock removal req'd to pull the trigger guard assy?...

    pls advise / tks

  11. Anybody have comments on using "Super Lube" (with PBTE in suspension) for choke tube lube in an SBE II?...It calls out this application, appears to have good hi-temp performance (~750-deg)...

Birchwood-Casey's Choke Tube Lube claims performance to 2000-deg (!)...seems to be a somewhat dubious claim...otherwise doesn't appear to be much different.

  12. me too....sounds like SVL has five more in inventory....woman I spoke to said she didn't think there were any out with vendors, so be prepared to get poked for MSRP + shipping (just under $50 total)...

Mudhen, you appear to be a self-professed expert on all things Benelli. Wow, Tom Knapp had better watch out for his job! As such, I would expect you to be better informed about Benelli in general. As you are certainly aware, in order to be a Benelli dealer you are required to have annual sales of at least $25000.00 per year. Since I live in a rural location, there are no Benelli dealers in my area. Benelli dealers in urban areas (75 miles away) do not routinely allow customers to take the guns off premise and fire them before purchasing them. They do not have "demo" models for test firing purposes either. On the models I did handle, the safety did not seem to be as tight as on my model. I don't know where you purchase your firearms, but no dealer I have dealt with allows the customer to dry fire a firearm. Therefore, I was unaware of the heavy trigger pull. To be honest, I expected a heavy trigger pull due to the litigious nature of our society. My posting was merely to find out if anyone else had these problems and had come up with a workable solution. Apparently, the first person posting a reply understood this (which surprises me why you did not). As you can clearly tell from my posting I am a regular joe who normally purchases regular joe firearms. My past firearms have included Mossbergs (very workable) and Beretta's (lower end). I guess I bought into Tom Knapp's hype regarding the Benelli's (Performance worth the Price). Although the point appears to be lost on you, Benelli apparently understands that their product costs more than a similar product from other companies. As an example, my Mossberg 935 Ulti-Mag (3 to 3 1/2") cost around $500.00. The SBEII with steady grip (which was very hard for me to find to purchase, I apparently don't share your close relationship with the Benelli corporation) cost me around $1600.00. I don't believe it is unreasonable to assume that quality would be higher with the higher purchase price. Lastly, although you feel the need to belittle me with your past turkey and deer escapades, let me assure you I have harvested Pope and Young deer and more than my share of Eastern and Merriam turkeys. I am not a novice.

Finally, please get a grip and try to understand the concept of a forum. It is not designed for members/owners to express that everything with their gun is totally perfect and beyond improvement. I would suspect that Benelli established the site to monitor owners feedback when considering future enhancements to their product line (or to identify trends among users). You (of course) with the inside track on Benelli would know their deepest thoughts regarding this issue.

In all honesty I have learned in my life that regardless of how anyone presents themselves, nobody is an expert at everything. Get a clue and try to understand the concept of a forum!

 Great input newbie... did that take you long to come up with

mudhen - CA Sorry...couldn't find an expression that really fit what I was thinking....(but I bet you could guess)....

  14. $20 (on top of the charge for the base...a high $9.00)...speak to the gunsmith at the Middletown, NY store (goes by JT)....they cover the gamut with patterns, but the lead time is long...quoted ~7 wks...so my plan is to install a regular base, add the scope and get busy patterning...replace with the camo base and re-sight when it comes in...

  15. do you recall the spec for eye relief on the Zeiss 3-9X...(...a very nice piece of glass by the way...)?

The Nikon shotgun scope I have on order is corrected for 50 yds, so that's good to hear...

  16. These "chips are so close to the recv'r / trigger guard edges, it screams poor pre- camo process cleaning to me....The molten plastic glob is just plain sloppy handling / quality control.

Anybody out there from Benelli?...Saw an adjacent thread on a camo blistering / chip problem brought up by another customer in late Dec...same gun...wondering if there was a bad production run on these finishes...

  17. Picking up my SBE II / Steady Grip next week (after a RI seven day waiting period)...got the chance to do a brief inspection a few days ago...first look impressions..loved the feel, action, etc., but was somewhat dissappointed in the camo finish quality (Advantage Timber)....several small edge chips on the recv'r, around the trigger guard...a;so had a "1/8 glob of what looked like molten plastic hardened on the sidewall...scraped most off with my fingernail, but the camo pattern underneath appears a bit bleached (perhaps from the heat tranfereed by the plastic)...

Question: how anal have you guys gotten with yours...my only point of comparison is a with two Brownings I have...a Gold Deer Hunter and a Titanium Mountain A-bolt in Mossy Oak Durasoft....both these gun finishes are works of art...
