  1. Hope you still don’t clean your M4!

    You know it!

I sold it to a friend a few months back ... uncleaned (only lubed) for the better part of a decade! :D

I may get one of the fancy new titanium cerakote H2O versions in the future, if I feel the need.

  2. Original architect of the true spec picatinny rail.

    Welcome back.

Ah yes, my contribution to the Benelli world. :D

Does anyone make a true rail for the M4 these days? I don't see it on Carriercomp's site.

  3. Some of you may remember me. Most probably do not. It's been a long, long time since I frequented this forum (or any gun forum for that matter), but I enjoyed my time here.

I just wanted to say hi and wish everyone the best ... I'm glad this forum is still active and people still love their Benelli's!

  4. Do you have any advice on what oil affects the acoustics of the bolt carrier group the most? I'm looking for the loudest racking sound I can get, so I can scare away criminals with the most ease. I'd have to imagine different lubricants have different sound dampening or amplifying properties, and I feel this is a very important issue that deserves some proper scientific testing.

    :D

  5. Well since my previous post was deleted for some unknown reason by the overzealous moderation team that apparently has taken command of this forum, allow me to restate my views in a much more concise manner.

    1) - If you lose an arm, you have no way to activate your laser ... unless you're leaving it "clicked on" and then lose your arm, in which case you are sending a tracking beacon to everyone around as to your current location.

    2) - Using a green laser for "intimidation" to avoid a shoot is the same philosophy that "racking a shotgun sends them running" or "warning shots let them know I'm not fooling around" or "using birdshot lets me hurt them without the liability of killing them". In all cases, flawed logic and junk science are the culprits, yet all three have strong proponents that actually think it's a good idea.

    3) - A light is infinitely more useful than a laser on a shotgun. Proper usage and light discipline are key. You don't just "click" the light on and then go roving ... that makes you a lighthouse and thus a target. Short bursts of light to illuminate areas, followed by movement away from that position as lights have a way of attracting bullets from bad guys.

    4) - I'm not sold on the idea of any optic being needed for a shotgun for HD, let alone a green laser with a visible beam. I'm not speaking out of inexperience, I spent $800 or so and bought the surefire green laser back in the day and used it for a bit with a LMT AR ... and I promptly sold it. It was a toy / novelty / gimmick at best, at worst it was a bullet magnet / unnecessary weight / unnecessary opportunity cost.

Now, that being said ... lasers certainly have their use in warfare and in self defense. IR lasers are a game changer when paired with night vision and air support, and red lasers on CCW guns can greatly increase your chances of getting rounds on target. I just don't think they are appropriate or necessary for a HD shotgun at point blank range ... and if you're using your shotgun at 100 yards, you're doing it wrong.

  6. Duggan.... You are so naughty LOL

But the stance does look wrong, maybe it's the angle of the pic LOL.

    Anna.

It's not the picture, she's just not shooting properly at all.

It's extremely common among new shooters, women especially.

The M4 is a heavy weapon ... a 10 lb gun is intimidating to your average woman newbie shooter.

Those that don't know any better ... lean back to balance out the heavy gun pulling them forward. It's a natural reaction, similar to leaning to your left side if you're holding a heavy bucket in your right hand at your waist.

I've found it's best not to be a stance nazi at first ... let them shoot how they want for a bit with minor coaching, then when they're having difficulty suggest that they do things differently in order to improve results ... they follow your advise, shooting improves, and they then will listen to what you say.

Eventually, if they stick with shooting, they learn that the best way to absorb recoil and shoot well is to lean into the weapon, not lean away from it.

  7. You should have went with black, it's easier to see yourself in the paint reflection (if it's clean).

I can just see it now ... you hopping out of your Z06 in your scrubs, flexing and admiring yourself in your car's paint, then chanting "I'm a man's man! I'm a man's man!" as you take your place (as the sole male) amongst your 23439204328 female coworkers. :D

    You're keeping the Nissan, right?

  8. I actually spent the better part of an hour today trying to find my rail from Kip. It appears to have been lost during my move, tragically. I am still hopeful that I will find it in one of my yet to be unpacked boxes.

I can't help but laugh that the part that got made largely because of my thread is now eluding me once again. ****.

  9. SgtCathy's description is pretty accurate on how the police state would respond.

Of the 75 rounds fired, less than 5% would make contact. :)

Now, sell me on the good parts about living under tyranny.

The economy is currently still way better in NY than in AZ from all that I've researched.

As soon as that changes, I'm moving ... and AZ is on my short list. My brother is at ASU and loves it, may move out there with him when he graduates this year.

    But you already know that.

  10. Perhaps it's the launch of the top secret M5, made entirely from scandium and titanium alloys with some form of advanced polymer that keeps the total weight under 5 lbs, to replace the m4 as the cool kids shotgun of choice.

  11. The minimalist gear people are just as ridiculous as the gear whores.

There is a middle balance that neither side will concede is the best of both world.

Having 100 mags and 20,000 rounds may be total overkill, but it's nice to have if you can afford it. Having one mag and 5 rounds, and saying to make those shots count, is putting yourself at an unnecessary disadvantage for no real reason.

Having too much stuff is rarely a problem. Having too much stuff at the expense of other stuff is potentially a problem. Not having enough stuff is almost always a problem.

As always, potential purchases should be put through a vigorous cost / benefit analysis and then ranked on a likelihood / priority level ... and then you buy the highest priority items that give you the most benefit for the cost that you are most likely to need.

You'd think this was common sense, but lots of internet discussions show otherwise ... guys with 20 guns that don't own a water filter, etc.
