  1. thanks johnny i cleaned them both again this time i actually took the spring out and cleaned it and the tube ,the one in the stock . ill try it next week ,now you had better say sompthing nice to sgt cathy i think you got here ruffled , lol . thanks again ill let you all know next week how it worked out

Yeah Leftie this place is right up there with ARFCOM on the brutality scale.

  2. thanks tucker i did mean tapped , and i did clean the recoil spring also but thanks i will try it again maby it was just a couple bad shells they are the 3dram 1and an eight oz federal top gun , or maby i just diddent clean it good enough the first time thanks fore all the good advice ill let you know

Just to make sure Leftie. Its the recoil tube that runs inside your buttstock. That's what you cleaned, right? Not the magazine tube. Just trying to help you get your gun running Buddy.Dorked up gun will really make you crazy till you get them dialed in. A lot like Women really.

  3. Leftie, are you shooting 3dr. 1 1/8oz. loads? That's the minimum powder/shot weight for that gun if it's a 12ga.

Next, have you cleaned the recoil tube out. If everthing is clean and lubricated, this is probably what is going on. Spray the recoil tube out with non chlorinated brake cleaner till you see it coming out clean and then let it dry. Then hit again with a Blast of lubricant (about a 2 second blast). I like Eezox because it dries and doesn't attrack residue, but Rem Oil, or anything else like Breakfree will work, even the Benelli CLP that comes with your shotgun (It will be harder to get it in though). Try this before you send your shotgun back, Leftie. Let us know how it works out.

  4. OK, Here we go again.

First, All you need is one. Why take the chance. So when I advise to err on the side of caution it's good advice.

Second, Check my website. Until recently I was partners in one of the largest Weapons Prop houses in Hollywood. I had daily contact with the BATF because we had an inventory of more than 1500 MG's, SBS's and DD's. So I've driven that turnip truck.

My experience with Federal law is quite extensive and like I originally quoted "There are legality issues when placing an extension on your M4. Unless you are LE Officer and the weapon is used on duty, BATF will have a canary. only comes from a recent sit down with BATF on this exact subject and this exact weapon when the Los Angeles Police Department instituted a private purchase program for it's Officers."

They made their augument quite clear.

Do what you want to do, it's your choice, you're an adult. But don't muddy the waters with your opinion if you're not willing to add a disclaimer or don't intend to represent the person you are advising when he's in Federal Court.

    Mike

Your the expert Mike, but I'm pretty sure that you can, under Federal Law, put a Benelli Mag tube or ext. on you M4. You just need to buy the Field Stock without the pistol grip.

Mike, I DID put a disclaimer on the end of my post. Last thing I want to do is get one of my fellow gun owners in trouble with the Federales. Under Obama and with the new BATFE Director, they just might start enforcing 922r. After all, their real agenda is to take the effective weapons out of the hands of the civilian population, something they have been very effective in doing in your State.

Here's what usually follows historically after citizens are debarred the ownership of EFFECTIVE weaponry:

    police state

    Noun

a state in which a government controls people's freedom through the police

    Collins Essential English Dictionary 2nd Edition 2006 © HarperCollins Publishers 2004, 2006

  5. Johnny until recently I subscribed to the theory that FN had set the bar. I was wrong. I never could get an in person explanation as to how they (FN)circumvent the 922R provision until I asked them while at the Annual Shot Show in Orlando this year. They import their FNH Tactical without a mag tube, stock, fore-end, pistolgrip, follower, or gas system. All those items are made and installed Stateside.

Benelli also answered a few questions. In 2003 they were INSTRUCTED to stop importing collapsible stocks and extension tubes, since they won't (imported parts) render a compliant end product. Many (including me) had speculated they did so in an attempt to be "PC"... not so. Parts count should be met BEFORE adding evil features, unless you subtract before you add, never to exceed the thresh-hold prior to meeting 922R's part's count compliance or being granted SBS approval PRIOR to ADDITIONS. Example, install hunting stock on an M4 (losing pistol grip) you may then exceed 5 round capacity OR add recoil reducer (muzzle extension) OR add bayonet lug, etc. People do it and are typically excused by KNOWLEDGABLE personnel by compassionate virtue when considering that Remington and Mossberg are exempt from such petty and arbitrary legislation, hence it is viewed as paridy rather than contempt. Yes you are correct, NFA transgressions are a nuther ball of wax.

Well, I guess I was wrong.. But then, so was Benelli when they sold thousands of Telescoping Stocks. Why can't Benelli just do the same thing as FNHUSA? They would sell quite a few units that way. Nobody wants a "neutered" gun.

You know, The Second has become a joke. What part of "shall not be infriged" is not clear.

  6. Johnny, Am I reading this right? Are you saying that you can put anything on this weapon after it enters the country? If so, Then you may be the one giving the bad info......

    Mike

OK, here we go. Yes, I say 922r is an import law. Reference the FN shotgun that they import AND THEN add an ext. mag to, then sell to civilians.

    http://www.fnhusa.com/le/products/firearms/model.asp?fid=FNF005&gid=FNG002&mid=FNM0131

If you take bits of it out of context, you get the typical internet opinion that you can only put non imported extended mags, collasable stocks, ect on your gun. If you talk to 10 different ATF Agents you will get some that say yea and some that say nea. Some of them don't even know what the OAL on a rifle/shotgun has to be before it's a SBS/SBR. Or whether that measurement is taken with stock folded or open.

But let's play devil's advocate here. You think that by putting an Americam Made ext mag on your imported shotgun then that's ok? What happened to the whole parts count thing. If your going to adhere to 922r as commonly interpreted by internet lawyers, then you are going to have to change quite a few parts.

Btw, I wouldn't dream of putting ANYTHING on my M4. I sure as heck wouldn't put a barrel shorter than 18", or make my weapon shorter than 26" OAL (MEASURED WITH THE STOCK COLLAPSED/FLODED/TELESCOPED, ect. because that will get you 10yrs in Club Fed and a 250,000.00 Dollar fine.

And Mike, I didn't just fall off the turnip truck with nthe whole firearms thing. I've been messing with NFA stuff for quite awhile.

I am not a lawyer, so proceed at you own risk. Remember, this is the Agency that just convicted a guy for having a malfuctioning AR (the law specifically exempts from prosecution any weapon that is malfunctioning) and charged him with owning a MG. He's in prison right now. I've even seen target pistols double on occasion- not common, but it does happen. When it happens, the cyclic rate can be high enough that Joe Blow doesn't even really notice for awhile if its an intermittent type malfunction.

So Mike, I see your an L.A. Ploice Officer: what was the story on the guy that they arrested at LAX with what looked to be legal firearms? I know that the Airport Police made the arrest, but figured you might know. I was Domiciled in LA till summer before last and I was afraid to take ANY of my guns into the People's Republic (I commuted to work from Texas and sometimes Utah, so no biggie). Place is waaaay changed from the place of my childhood and teenage years. Still a beautiful place though- just not for Gun Nuts like me.

  7. Let me see if this will help answer your question without adding opinion.

    My test-

"Can it to the job consistently and accurately"

What is the largest game = Elk

.300 Winchester Short Magnum (also known as .300 WSM, commonly pronounced as "Whizzum") is a .308 caliber short magnum cartridge that was introduced in 2001 by Winchester.[1] The cartridge overall length is 72.64mm, cartridge case is 53.34mm in length and the bullet diameter is 7.62 mm (common to all U.S. .30 calibre cartridges). The principle at work in the short magnum cartridge is the advantage of fitting larger volumes of powder in closer proximity to the primer's flash hole, resulting in more uniform, consistent ignition. In field use, this round mirrors the performance of its older counterpart, the .300 winchester magnum, which is based on a modified .375 holland and holland belted magnum casing.

The advantages of the newer, shorter round are limited, but worth considering. Most notably, the felt recoil of these rifles is less sharp than the longer, narrower magnums. The wide chamber allows gasses re-entering the bore after the departure of the projectile to decompress slightly before slamming into the inner base of the casing, softening the felt impact. Less important to most rifle shooters is the increase in efficiency of shorter casings, which results in greater inherent accuracy.

When addressing this topic, it is useful to consider the true degree of accuracy involved. This degree is fairly minute for most uses, and is primarily important to target shooters, and hunters who rely on a rifle to be capable of extreme long range accuracy. Very few rifle shooters are able to shoot better than their rifles, and as such, this aspect is largely academic. The basic issue at hand is that this cartridge is in a class that is already filled with numerous choices in similarly performing rounds, and has little to distinguish it but nominal increase in accuracy, and lighter felt recoil. The .300 WSM is, however, the most modern .30 caliber cartridge in the magnum class, utilizing the best available knowledge in cartridge design. As such it represents the best combination of ballistic performance, round-to-round consistency, and reduced recoil and muzzle blast.

.300 WSM is used in the Western United States for elk, mule deer, and whitetail and on the plains, where long range shooting is a must. Also, although relatively new, the 300 WSM has already had some success in benchrest shooting. As with all high speed large game rounds, bullet construction plays a major role in terminal ballistic performance, and is far too complex to enter in this space.

The .270 Winchester Short Magnum or .270 WSM is a short, unbelted, magnum Cartridge (firearms) created by necking down the .300 Winchester Short Magnum and fitting it with a .270 caliber bullet. When it was introduced, the .300 WSM sported a new case that showed a lot of promise for uses in other calibers. In 2002 Winchester introduced new cartridges in its Winchester Short Magnum family, including the 7 mm WSM and .270 WSM. This new .270 cartridge was the third commercial .270 ever produced, and the first one in 60 years. The .270 WSM is an improvement over the older .270 Winchester providing higher velocity with bullets of the same weight, and thus a flatter trajectory and more energy. Velocities tend to be about 250 ft/s (76 m/s) faster, in a cartridge that is shorter and can therefore be used in a shorter action for a more compact rifle if desired.

    All that said.

The two cartridges are identical except for the bullet diameter. So now a choice is made...

Choose the caliber that will most likely do the job consistently and accurately. What is the largest game you will take? What caliber fits that consistently.

When I took my own test for a Black Bear hunt in the Alaskan wilderness, the possibility of running into other predators was high, my choice ended up being a Steyr Scout in 376 Steyr, that choice turned out very appropriate, but that's another story.

    Mike

Steyr Scout in 376 Steyr. Now that's a cool rifle. I've always liked the Scout rifle concept that the late Col. Jeff Cooper touted. Pretty much have reload for that one though.

Hey Tucker, no hard feelings, Huh. Have a good one. I might not always agree but I enjoy reading your posts.

  8. Sorry, has nothing to do with Texas, it's a Federal Importation Law 922®, that's why I said BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms). The law states how many imported parts can be on the weapon, so by going with the ones I listed it becomes legal.

State law can not "ease" Federal law, just make it more stringent, like here in California!!!!!!!

That's right, It's AN IMPORT LAW. You can't IMPORT a Benelli with the evil features. 922r was an Executive Order from 41 to keep the endless waves of cheap Chinese Semi AK's out of the Country.

This is the same kind of bad info that people used to get if they wanted a transferable Machine gun, silencer, or any other NFA item. The so called gun guru's would tell you that the ATF could come in to your home at any time without a warrant and search the premises. The internet is full of bad info.

  9. that is quite a wing span , its probably another bad sujestion but have you tried a pull over recoil pad ,on top of your existing one , good luck

Excellent advice Leftie! You can also wear a padded shooting vest.

Benelli definitely needs to come out with an accessory pad thats longer for the larger statured folks

  10. Do I sense some Hostility Tucker???

Man, all I was trying to do was help a guy make a choice that asked for advice, Jeez.

So a cartridge designed in the 1950's to replace the 30-06 is an ancient cartridge. The .270 is just a necked down 30-06.

.270 was introduced to the public in 1925. .308 was introduced in 1952.

.270 has the same case limitation for feeding as the 30-06 because it doesn't have enough of a case rim for good puchase of an extractor especially in a semi auto rifle. Which is why the .308 case was designed with more of a case rim and more taper and also a thicker case at the rim, so it doesn't get ripped apart, like 30-06's did in hot M1's and in MG's. Also, the 30-06 and the .270 are long action cases. Why, because way back at the turn of the century- the one before last, the powders available were extruded and needed more case capacity to achieve the same velocity. Winchester/Olin invented ball powder for the .308 and it daoesnt need near the case capacity of a 30-06 or a .270 to achieve virtually the same velocity with 150gr'ish projectiles. It used to be that you needed 180-220gr bullets to kill larger game because the bullet technology wasn't so hot and the bullets would break up. Now, the bullet technology is so good that a 150'ish grain bullet will penetrate and stay together even in the largest North American game.I like short action actions, and like I said for a semi auto the .308 is going to be far more reliable than a 30-06/.270 for when your out in the cold, or in dusty crappy conditions. Also, if your worried about trajectory in an R1 that's not going to be used past about 300yards, what the ****. It's reliability and accuracy out to about 250yards that will serve the average hunter best. This is all opinion and I don't think that the .270 is a bad cartridge. I actually like the cartridge and who can knock an '06. It is one of the all time favorite cartridges.

I know that your talking about the new WSM, but I believe that the case rim is the same, but I could be wrong.

For someone to say that the .308 is an antiquated cartridge "is borderline absurd". There's a reason most Police snipers use the .308. It's supremely accurate and uber reliable. In addition, the .308 is far more inherently accurate than a .270. Lastly, the .308 cartridge is one of the most popular cartridges in the world by hunters.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.308_Winchester

I'm sure some Policia Sharpshotters, or Military snipers will be along shortly to opine about the relative antiquity and ineffectiveness of the .308/7.62X51.

Be careful kid, you'll shoot your eye out.

  11. Looks like BETTER than OEM what with titanium parts and all.

OEM Parts will always have a certain cache to them because of there difficulty in obtaining and ,well, there Benelli OEM Parts. Kinda like the people that don't think a West Hurley Thompson is a REAL Thompson, or the Colt Koolaid Drinkers that can't understand how anybody might CHOOSE to own a Noveske over a Colt.

I'm going to sell my Benelli OEM Parts and buy the Titanium Mag tubes. Sounds like the Skeleton Stocks will be damn near as spendy as an OEM Collapsible though. At least, unlike the Benelli Stock at times, they will be available to purchase.

Again, I'm glad that someone is stepping up for M4 Owners and making the parts people need to exercise their Constitutional Rights.

  12. Thanks. :D

I just busted out the tape measure.

    LOP: 12.5"

    Barrel: 25¼"

    Overall: 45¼"

    [------------------------------------]

It's that close to what you're looking for. ;)

It should be engraved on the side of the barrel beside the ga. and shell lengths. Maybe they stopped doing that-I don't know. My wife Monte I bought new in '93, or 94. Back when you could "carrier load" them. I don't think you can do this on the Benelli Non Tactical models anymore. Maybe someone knows.

  13. Slingadero, I like your username.

Listen, if it has a 24" barrel and a 12.5" LOP Stock, I'm Interested. I don't care if it's an "Official" Youth model, but I need the 24" barrel and the Short Stock. I have 2 youngsters that are going to need Fowling Pieces.

My Wife already has a 20 Monte with a cut down stock (by the late John Reven) and a 26" barrel, so I'm looking for a true Youth size shotgun(s). Thanks.

  14. Personal preference. 10yrs ago I would have gotten the 28". Now I would get a 24" for all around shooting. Let me ask you. Would you get a 26" or a 28 " in an O/U?

A 24" M2 is going to be about as long as a 28" O/U because of the receiver length on the Auto. A Black Eagle 24" might even be a little longer than a 28" O/U.

It's all personal preference. All will give excellent results and a good "swing".

  15. Old Shotgunners typically have had neck surgery, or at least neck troubles in the cervical section and many have had detached retinas and subsequent surgery to fix that as well. Recoil is bad for your body and general well being. Plus, you can hit at reasonable ranges just about as good, or even better, with lighter loads and gauges, because now, your not flinching.

When you shoot guns thousands and thousands of times that kick right up there with high power dangerous game rifles it WILL have a detrimental effect on your health.

That being said, if your just shooting defensive loads in your shotgun, you'll be O.K. It's when your shooting max dram Trap loads year in and year out that you get in trouble. I only shoot full power loads in my M4 for defensive purposes. For practice and fun blasting I just shoot plain old 3dr 1 1/8 oz. 6's or 7 1/2's.

  16. I have heard nothing bad about the 870 wingmasters. The wingmasters and the 870 express are to different guns.

Like I said, the 870 Wingmaster, or the Express with the birch stock and cheap finish, is bulletproof. Mossy 500 are in the same category. I happen to like the 870 better from personal preference and familiarity only.

I won't buy any gun with an IL (Internal Lock) and the new 870's come with this piece of crap. I don't trust the IL's for any gun that I might use to defend my life or my family. A good 870 can be had for 200-250. or so used. Like so many firearms- older is probably better. I love the old 50's 870 with the 2 3/4" receivers. They are a shorter receiver and handle like a dream. I then stick a vent rib barrel cut to 25" and choked with ext. forcing cones (the same length as the .410/28 ga and put on a modern 870 forearm (available on eGay) for one of the best handling shotguns out there IMO.

I used to go shoot sporting clays with guys with 5-7k shotguns and beat the pants off them. They failed to see any humor in getting beat with an 870. I like the fact that you can shoot really reduced loads with a pump, just like an O/U (28gram 12 gauge).

  17. Well, I'm happy that I was WRONG about the Carriercomp/Wolff Spring. I should have known because every Wolff Spring that I have ever purchased was first rate. I was shooting from the hip just looking at the picture and the Carriercomp Spring LOOKED about the same length as the worthless so-called Benelli extended 7 shot Factory Springs that I got from eGunparts/Numrich's.

Cleefurd, I am looking forward to buying a Ti Magtube and Spring, along with a 8th rd Ext. (when they become available) I'm glad you people are stepping up to the plate for the 11707 owners.

Cleefurd, are you Guys going to, for sure, make a Collapsible Stock (Skeleton Stock) for the 11707/M4? I don't need one but many others do. I understand that even LEO's are having procurement issues for these stocks.

  18. I know I bought 2 of the so called 7 shot Benelli springs from eGunparts.com and the springs were incredibly hard to get in and they did NOT allow the 7th shell (2.75") in. In short, the springs are too long. This spring sounds well constructed, but too long as well. You are going to have problems if the shells are that close to not going in because different 2.75" shell have slightly different OAL's. Carriercomp is going to end up having to back off on the length.

Also, for a combat gun, you don't want the reloads to be that hard to insert. I don't know about you guys, but my factory spring works just fine. I do, however, wish I could get a chrome silicon or a SS Spring just a little longer than the factory spring.

I bet if you took a Marine Corp M4 1014 and measured the spring, it would be the size of the so-called 5 shot spring. I bet that the 5 shot spring is really a 7 shot spring. Remember these 11707's have to be imported in a non standard config because of 922r. Which, I firmly believe, is strictly an import law and doesn't apply once your gun is already over here. That's just my personal opinion and I'm not a lawyer, so do what you want.
