  1. Sounds like it the bolt is not locking into battery. Meaning that it is not going all the way forward. I've had this happen on mine when the gas piston was dirty. I would remove and clean the gas piston and try again.
  2. I may have to get my R-1 one out of the safe and she what I can find with it this fall. Steve
  3. The gas piston does come apart and I found that it had to be cleaned after each and every firing or mine would get gunked up and misfire. I wrote a thread on it with photos. See it here. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php/14472-Gas-Piston Good luck
  4. My R-1 would also do the same thing when the gas piston was dirty. The dirty piston would prevent the bolt from locking into battery and the firing pin would fire but fail to strike the primer. One easy way for me to check to make sure it was free was to remove the foregrip and pull the bolt back, the gas piston should move freely. When it gets fouled it causes friction and the bolt will not lock all the way into battery. Steve
  5. I use a bore snake in the field, but take it apart and remove the bolt and clean it with a carbon fiber rod from the breach once I get home. I store mine with it broken down, not sure if they have improved the gas piston since I bought mine in 2005, but I have had it get stuck together and just found it better to keep the barrel and receiver apart. Read the entire gas piston thread,, I have photos of how I clean mine using a boreguide. Steve
  6. Congrats on you new R-1,, don't really take anything special as far as tools goes. I like to use a punch or allen wrench to remove the piston nut, but you can use the end of the barrel nut that holds on the foregrip. The key I found is to NEVER put it away with cleaning the gas piston. This thread will get you started PM me with any questions. I have shot mine a lot, in rain and near salt water. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php/14472-Gas-Piston Good Luck Steve
  7. A couple videos from last Moose season. Let me know what you think. Steve
  8. The DNZ mount replaces the rail, it is a ring/rail combo. I don't see away to shim the front or back independently. http://www.dnzproducts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66_50&products_id=372 Steve
  9. Look at your factory rail. One end is thicker than the other, and if memory serves me correctly the factory rail is marked with front. I tried a DNZ mount and discovered the same problem you are finding. I went back to the factory rail and a set of Warne Quick detachable rings. Allows me to remove the scope for cleaning and transport. I sent my DNZ mount back with a note telling them about the issue and received a refund. Use the factory rail as a guide, and measure the thicker part and make sure you installed the DNZ the correct way. I'm away from home now and can't look at mine for a reference. Steve
