  1. I have been thinking about getting a R1 in the comfortec and changing out the 30-06 to a 20" .300 win mag. Do the replacement barrels come in both gloss and matte. Rumor has it that they are just gloss. Silly to put a gloss barrel on a matte gun. What have you guys seen?

  2. I am thinking about getting another deer rifle and am interested in the .300 Win. Mag. Comfortech version but with a 20" barrel not the 24"er. Has anyone heard of Benelli making the 20" in the Comfortech version? What is the best price or place around on the Comfortech R1 you guys have seen? What do optional barrels run?

  3. I had originally decided to get an R1 20" and was looking at them at the NRA show here is St Louis a couple months ago just to be sure that is what I wanted. Well, my mind has changed, I went with the new Merkel SR1 rifle in .300 Win Mag with just over a 20" barrel.

You cant beat a quality German rifle. I Just wanted everyone to know of a new option on the market.

  4. I am so close in getting a new R1 Comfortech in 30-06 wit the 20" barrel. I do a lot of walking and brush deer hunting. Would there be any real negatives to the 20 over the 22 barrel. I shoot short ranges 50-100yrs while deer hunting. Any help would be great and are there any photos of the 20" R1 anywhere???

  5. Clubster,

I would agree with Tucker. Go with the Browning Shortrac. My brother has the gun and it shoots really well and has not given him any problems. He has had it for two hunting seasons. Not sure what you mean by it being an OX. I assumed you meant weight. An R1 comes in at 7 lbs 2 ounces, the Shortrac at 7 lbs 4 ounces. Hardly and issue. The Sauer 303 comes in at 7 lbs 3 or 6 ounces depending upon model. Maybe your Dad's unit is the older BAR design. The BAR was reworked 3-4 years ago and I know they used lighter metal in the new design. You can go to Browning's website and see it. The Shortrac is a nice gun, and not troublesome to carry.

By OX i meant real heavy as compared to my Sauer 202 Supreme. I will look at the Brownings again.

  6. WTF! How can the ATF state on the phone there is not an issue and I gave him the exact model (11707) and items to be installed (extension and adjustable stock). He stated it would not be an issue at all. I give up and am selling it all:rolleyes:

  7. An accurate, lightweight, reliable semi-auto hunting rifle is an elusive beast.

If you're willing to sacrifice some weight for accuracy, consider and AR from DPMS in .308, .260, 6.8 SPC, .300, or .243.

If you want to maximize your chances at getting a decent shooter in a more traditional design, then your best bet is with Browning and the Shortrac/Longtrac line.

The R1 is coming along, but it's not there yet.

I hope Benelli will stay on it and continue to improve the R1 line with better triggers, better accuracy, and more reliability.

I looked into the Browning but will have to pass since my father has one and it is an OX. I may look into the new Sauer semi-auto that is out and see if I can get it imported to the US..

  8. I have been wanting an R1 since they were first released but have held off getting one every deer season since. I have heard mixed reviews on these based on accuracy and reliability so I just cant decide what to do? I want a high end semi-auto deer rifle that is light and has a synthetic stock. I currently am using Sauer 202 Supreme's to hunt with so you can see what I am used to in quality. Any suggestions on what to do, brand, etc.

  9. I'm sorry if I read this wrong, but if I added a mag extension to an M4 with a synthetic pistol grip stock am I still okay? Plus whatever else, heat shield, scope, ghost rings, flashlight, ect.

I am 99.9% sure regardless what state you live in it will be illegal since it is the federal law that says no. However, the other things you mentioned are OK. Just no extension or adjustable stock can be added. I wonder how many illegal M4's are out there?:( I dont want to risk it since I have a nice firearms collection I would like to keep.

  10. It does not matter what state you live in, a functioning telescoping stock with pistol grip in still prohibited throughout the United States unless you add 5 approved US made parts or add the gun to the NFA registry. An imported semi-automatic shotgun cannot have both a pistol grip or telescoping/folding stock. This has been the law since before the Brady Bill and is still standing.

You can install a US made or Italian made full length magazine tube or extension to your M4 without adding any US parts by either installing the M4 synthetic field stock or by limiting the tube to 5 rounds with a plug.

    It's a stupid law, I know. :(

What does the M4 synthetic field stock look like? Is that the one that comes with the 11707 as standard equipment?

  11. I read about all the M4 owners who are tying to find the mag extension and adjustable stock set. However, it seems to be illegal to have these options on the 11707. Am I missing something or is it just the novelty to have them in a safe place?

UPDATE: I just spoke with the BATF and the current 11707 M4 configuration CAN have the factory extension and adjustable stock added on to it without breaking any federal law. Be aware your state may restrict this but if you are in a "nice" state you are fine. The old AWB law is where all the mis information is coming from which is no longer recognized by the ATF. This is what I was told but treat it as how you received it, "free". However, onto adding those items for me
