sounds like it needs to go back to the factory. call customer service. i did; my brand new sbeii went back & they changed a few parts & adjusted a few. turn around time was roughly 1 1/2 months - joy, joy. ps - there's an unwritten rule on this forum - you are not supposed to speak of problems with benelli - totally ridiculous (at least to me). i'm more about true customer education & experience. thanks

i've had one for 1 1/2 years & have been completely disappointed. wish i had bought the winchester sx3. maybe i got a lemon. it's been back to the factory & i've had some jams since. see: VERY UNHAPPY WITH BENELLI & New SBE Disappointment & Rust on my benelli.

weight is less of an issue for me, so i am looking to get some opinions about these models - browning gold light 10 gauge & remington sp10. do you think these are quality shotguns in terms of reliability and accuracy? i know you guys have experience with them / know about 'em. any thoughts? thanks

i guess my question has more to do with others' thoughts of/experience with the remington sp10 & browning light 10 gauge models. one friend just told me he had to send his browning gold light 10 gauge in 2x & they ended up giving him a brand new gun. thanks

I am thinking of getting a 10 gauge semi-auto & wanted to know if anyone had recommendations. I am thinking Remington SP10 or Browning Gold Light (which I believe are the main two 3 1/2" capable semi options). My primary use is actually for ducks & I suspect it's overkill, but I wanted some others' thoughts. Thank you

NJGunner, I'd highly recommend that you send your new gun back in. I had jamming problems with my brand new SBEII & tried different oil & ammo - only to have continued, repetitive problems. I waited for the end of duck season to send it in & it took several weeks, but they replaced a few parts & adjusted a few others. It was highly frustrating for me & I actually wished I had sent the gun in sooner. So far (with about 3 boxes shot), there have been no problems. I suspect Benelli quality has gone down with mass production, but I only know my experience, what I read & what I hear. See: New SBE Disappointment & Rust on my benelli. Thanks

yeah, it's salty in my area - but it doesn't affect my other guns, including my charles daly. that's rights - a gun that cost less than half of the price of a benelli barrel has a better coating. that's something to me. i look forward to seeing if corrosion x &/or boeshield solves the benelli coating problem this season. if not, i'll get it recoated (assuming there are no more cycling problems) or possibly sell it. thanks

My reply is that in my experience and in the areas I hunt, the coating is ineffective. I have to apply a heavy outside coat of oil especially right before & right after my hunts. When I wipe the gun down, I always – REPEAT ALWAYS – get rust residue on my rag. None of my other guns do this. I care for my guns meticulously. I do not get a sense that this gun will last a lifetime. A few people I know with the same model in my area have the same problem. The authorized dealer where I bought the gun has heard of the problem from many owners. This authorized dealer has suggested that I get my one year old SBEII re-coated/refinished. My one year old SBEII has been back to the factory – some parts were replaced & some were adjusted for repeated cycling failures. I do not know if Benelli product quality & materials has gone down, but to me, I supect it has & to me, the product stinks. Had I known I would have these problems with one of the most expensive field guns on the market, I would (of course) not have bought it. This is my first Benelli gun & this is my experience with the product.

I have one more item before someone tries to hide negative Benelli experiences. We all know gun manufacturers use marketing ploys to increase sales. I'm looking at the similar models - SBEII, Winchester SX2 & Beretta Xtrema2. On this front, Benelli focuses on the barrel, recoil reduction, barrel, molding/grip and the inertia driven bolt. (Crio, ComforTech, Airtouch, Inertia Driven). They do not mention/highlight coatings & corrosion resistance, while Beretta & Winchester do with own technologies (AquaTech & PermaCote UT). See the Beretta-copied comments below. I would suggest that Benelli, at a minimum, adapt the parent company technology of AquaTech for their guns. In my experience, it seems that nearly ANYTHING would be an improvement from the current coating techniques used. Some people feel like they need to coat their Benelli in the field while hunting because the coating is that rotten/ineffective. I also forgot to re-mention that my own retailer where I bought the gun suggested I get the gun "recoated/re-finished' - when he knows it's g-damn brand new.

I forgot to mention it - but the fact that some people feel like they need to oil their Benelli in the field DURING a hunt is absolutely unbelievable to me. To me, that is completely ridiculous & show how ineffective the coating is. Also, maybe it's the area I hunt in, but I know several people who say their Benelli with the black matte coating gives them trouble. Thanks

I'll try Corrosion X. I use the same oil on all of my guns & my Benelli is the worst in terms of surface rust. I clean the gun thoroughly & put on a pretty thick outter coat on the Benelli, especially right before & right after the hunt. All other guns are much cheaper, yet have more effective coatings for my hunting areas. The point to me is that instead of being a nice tool that requires low maintenance & is highly reliable, this model is actually worse than my other guns. This ineffective coating comes with a gun that has already been back to the factory to have a few parts replaced & a few adjusted - all for cycling issues (see: New SBE Disappointment - http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15345&highlight=very+disappointed). I am highly disappointed, but look forward to the coming season & we'll see how it works. More problems & I'll try to sell it & might look to the Winchester SX3. Overall, I am completely let down by this purchase. Just my two cents/my experience with the brand.

suppose i have problems with my still-under-warranty gun & it needs to go back to the factory. can you knock out the epoxy if needed to make it look unaltered? last, which grove is the second? (i'm not in front of my gun/bolt - at work). thanks

how do you do the modification to the bolt - or where can i find out how? you can do this on a 1 yr old sbeii? thank you

tucker, if you are unable or unwilling to put your money where your mouth is - and you are so foolish to believe/accept that benelli could not possibly produce a defective sbeii - just call your good friends at customer service (or is that, talk to your co-workers) - and ask them if my experience can be true. while you have them on the phone, ask them why their repair backlog is so long.

GW, I'm worried about what will happen if I have a problem with the gun in the future - so I have not give all full details here. I have ~4 years of warranty left & have only shot 2 boxes since I got the gun back. A couple of others here basically have called me a liar - so I told them I'd post my proof, provided they buy me out at my cost. I'm not going after anyone or benelli - just giving my personal experience - and my offer still stands to any & all. Otherwise, we'll have to wait until Benelli tells me it's fine or my warranty runs out. Read this post from the beginning & you'll see. Thanks

honkers41, i've owned mine a little while longer & shot it a slightly more times than you - but with dozens & dozens of jams. i sent it back to the factory & hopefully/apparently it's now fixed - though to me, the real proof will be during the coming duck season (which is the reason i bought the gun). fanatics on this forum really get fired up when they hear of any benelli problems/complaints. to me, that's just another part of possible product improvement & customer education. thanks

I am very happy to report that I shot my SBEII this weekend & over the sporting clays course of 2 boxes of 2 ¾ inch shells, the gun did not jam once. Hopefully, I got the very rare Benelli defect / lemon. I look forward to many years of (hopefully) trouble-free use of the gun. Now, rather than worry about my gun jamming, I can focus on items more important to me – hitting the bird, my decoy set up, the blind layout, etc. In hindsight (always 20/20), had I known I was buying a Benelli with a few defective parts – of course I would have chosen another brand. Whether I got the rare lemon or their quality has gone down, I do not know. I only know my experience, plus what I read & hear. I do know that instead of relying on the advice that many have given me on this forum – including that from the so-called experts & senior members – whether it was using different oil, ammo, cleaning methods, etc – I should have just sent the gun back to the factory – even in the middle of a relatively short duck hunting season. In my case, no matter what changes I could have made, I still would get cycling failures. This brand new gun had a few bad parts in it that needed to be replaced or adjusted. Again, I am glad the problem (apparently / to date) has been fixed & the gun now works as promised.

tucker & mudhen, put up or shut up. money talks & BS walks. until i shoot the gun, i don't know if i'll have to send it right back to the factory. hopefully that's this weekend. i also have ~4 years left on the warranty. my offer stands, i'll post my receipt alone w/ my purchase receipt if you buy me out at the $1400 i paid for this wonderful gun. my intentions are (believe it or not) good - i'm focused on customer education through my personal experience. i don't know if i got a lemon or benelli quality has gone down. if the "end solution" means that benelli must improve its quality &/or bring it up to previous levels - so be it. i congratulate you for "coming true" with your defective benelli guns, just as i did. i know it had to hurt you deeply, but you managed to kiss their butt pretty well. the truth can hurt some time. let's review what has happened here (especially for the not-sharpest-tools in the shed group). i trade up from the lowest priced field semi auto on the market to the benelli super black eagle ii - supposedly the finest on the market & certainly the top 1 or 2 most expensive. i have significant problems with the gun - mainly frequent, repetitive jamming - averaging about 1/hunt or 1/box of shells - using many different types of ammo & all the sizes of shells the gun can fire. i post my experiences on this forum. i get attacked for being an idiot that does not know how the operate the gun, does not know how to clean the gun, that uses the wrong synthetic oil, that didn't use solvent when switching oils, that uses cheap, worthless ammo (yet still meets benelli requirements for the gun) - did i leave anything out? now i'm being called a liar. again, i have documented proof of everything i have written about here. so again, i say put up or shut up. if you would like, i'll up the "bet" - as high as you'd like to go. we'll draw up some papers, post them too & then i'll post all of my paperwork. BRING IT ON.

i have not YET made it to the range. while i would like to go, i work on the weekdays, it's fishing season & i have a fairly new boat. my point is NOT to complain, but to let others know (as I wish some might have let me know) - that possibly Benelli quality has gone down; they can ??often do?? jam; the coating is the worst of all guns I own; in my personal experience, the gun is overrated & over priced. i hope i got a lemon that is now fixed & works like the dream i've heard & read about - but so far that is not the case at all. i will report back - just like i did today. ps - i forgot to mention it took nearly 2 months from the time i shipped the gun until i got it back. they are so backed up - is that another part of the great benelli experience? is that another form of proof their quality has gone down? i'm not sure, but i can tell you, to me - it stinks.

I don’t like to wine, but this really burns me up - especially after getting somewhat attacked / yelled at, here & by other fans…Well, I finally got my SBE II from customer service. They replaced a few parts & adjusted a few parts. That’s right, a brand new, less than one year old SBE II that jammed on me dozens & dozens of times in its first hunting season - & I have documented proof it was not user error. I haven’t made it to the sporting clays range yet to see if this fine, top of line, most expensive field semi auto works as promised, but will. I do hope that it’s now fixed & works as I’ve heard others talk about & as promised. But, I can tell you in my experience with the gun so far – and that’s with a brand new purchase from an authorized dealer – it’s been a complete disappointment & letdown. What a rip off!

I know of this & believe it could be one of the reasons the Marine Corps went w/ the gas-operated M4.
