  1. Has anyone ever had problems shooting Sellier & Bellot Buckshot through their shotguns? I'm not talking about their military surplus, just their regular civilian buckshot rounds.

Are they any better or worse than cheap Winchester or Remington ammo?

    Thanks :)

  2. ... sure enough, I could see in the mount anodizing that it was starting to push, if I had fired 20 or so slugs I would have ruined the mount.

I'm a little confused here too...what do you mean when you are saying it was starting to push? How does firing a round ruin a scope mount?

    Thanks :)

  3. The truball slugs literally have a plastic ball behind the slug that is said to stabilize the slug and make it fly truer, they claim some ridiculously accurate numbers at 50 yards that I will test out tomorrow.

I'm very interested in what you think of them. Also what will you be shooting them through?

  4. OK back on topic here :p

So Mac calls out the Vital-Shok TruBall rifled slugs, but I also see Federal makes some Power-Shok hollow point rifled slugs.

Anyone shed some light on the real life differences between the two? I think both are 1oz slugs.

  5. I haven't had the Nordic mag extension, but I have noticed that with the TacStar, you need to have the magazine clamp as well. After you shoot 25+ rounds, you will find the mag extension coming loose and needing to be retightened.

  6. Unless you lived in a state like Illinois, at which point you wouldnt be doing much hunting with that proper rifle...:(

I would think a rifle also would limit your options more, especially if there is a lot more smaller, feather bound game.

But thanks everyone for the info :)

  7. I am hoping some folks here can educate me as far as the viability of hunting large game (say deer and maybe even as large as elk or moose) using slugs in an unrifled 12 gauge barrel.

It would seem to me that it is more a matter of getting close enough for accuracy than actual stopping power, is that correct?

Whats the best type of slug round for an unrifled barrel? I think I read somewhere they make rifled slugs?

I know the old adage, use the right tool for the job, but if you were forced to only pick one type of weapon for the vast majority of hunting, would you choose a 12 gauge?

Sorry for all the questions here, I'm just trying to learn whats out there and to make good choices.

  8. I would like to get a decent (but not too expensive) tactical light to add to my Supernova. I want to be able to keep it to the $20-$40 range or so.

Any recommendations? I took a look at the Coast LL7736TS, which looks pretty nice, but $45 and I don't know if some other brands (like Dorcy), will give me the same performance for $20 less.

    And thoughts? recommendations?

    Thanks!

  9. Thanks for the info guys.

I am purchasing a SuperNova Tactical with the comfortech stock and ghost ring sites this weekend. I've done some searching in the area and it's the only model I could find from a local gunshop without having to wait 60-90 days (plus its $35 cheaper than anywhere else) for a backorder.

Since it is primarily for home/backwoods defense, I'm not too concerned about the sights and I just may end up taking the gun to a smith to have it drilled for a choke. Not sure yet.

If I really start to get into trap/skeet or hunting, I will probably just end up buying a second gun anyway.

  10. I am relatively new to shotguns, previously being a rifle type, so please bear with my newbie questions here...

I am interested in a Nova Pump Tactical, however I noticed it comes with a fixed choke. Does this mean I cannot swap it out at all?

I intend to use it primarily for defense in the home and out in the wild, however, I would like the option of going out and doing some trap, skeet or sporting clays.

Am I looking at the right shotgun? My budget is a bit limited, so the only models I can consider are the Nova and SuperNova.

    Thanks for any advice!
