  2. Since noone else replied to our question Ill answer. I figured it out while out shooting my M4.

    You load the tube to max capacity. Then pull the bolt/carrier back far enough to add another round on top of the ramp, or shell carrier. After adding that round, hold the same round so as to clear the bolt/carrier as you move the B/C forward just slightly. Then add another round directly into the chamber. If you have the factory Five round tube you now have 7 shots at the ready. Five in the tube, One on the shell carrier/ramp and One in the tube. If you have the Seven round tube then you have a total of Nine shots at the ready.

    Make sense?

  3. I think what you are reffering to is in regards to re-chambering handgun rounds. When chambering handgun rounds it is possible to have the bullet setback due to the contact with the feedramp. This usually only happens when the bullet is not crimped properly. I dont think this could be a problem with shotgun shells but like others mentioned just inspect your ammo for visible signs of wear, cracks bulges etc.

  4. Just ask the guys in Syria that were on the wrong end of the M4....wait, you can ask them cause they are DEAD.

    The amount that is lost would never be noticed by you, your shoulder or the bird/bad guy at the other end of your shotgun.

    Besides that, like the guy above stated. If for some reason a few feet per second difference makes a difference just squeeze off four or five more rounds.

    I would be willing to wager my M4 that I could bang out 4 shots to his One. I am sure others would agree

  5. My M4 ate anything, but OOO 3" Remington Buckshot was BY FAR the tightest grouping buckshot. I have targets at 40 yards that show 70-80% patterns in a small-statured person's chest area. They were normal patterns. Not hand-picked.

     

    YMMV, and probably will.

     

    I showed similar results with my M4. I was using the Federal 00 buck full power loads with the "flight control wad"

    I was shooting a 22" round plate at 50 yards on the dot. All nine pellets struck the plate with only one of the nine out of center mass.

    There are many different rounds out there that have their claim to fame but I think the federal full power 00 buck flight control are some of the best.

    Now, with that said. Like mentioned above. For getting the feel of your shotgun pick up the 100 round value pack from wal mart. I first used the Winchester with decent results then bought the Federal with better results.

    My only problem with either of the rounds were that the last round would not fully feed onto the carrier causing the ramp to pin the shell half way into the tube. I dont think that this is an ammo issue as much as it is my mag spring being too weak to feed the last round. I have a full length Daves Metal Works tube on mine.

    In the factory configuration you should really be fine with whatever round you choose to feed it.

    Just remember whatever round you choose when you think you have enough to take out and shoot...double it. Shooting the M4 is like no other shotgun out there. It truely is the most fun of any shotgun I have ever shot.

  7. Our web domain is intact, but dormant since the passing of my late wife and daughter back in 2004. After retirement (USMC 1983-2005) I slowly resumed production, and the web-site has been neglected... sorry, I need to remedy that.     We build competition rear sights for the CTC (cross the course) AR15 service rifle platform based on a 2002 awarded patent, we built the aluminum version of the Kowa TSN-821 protective eyepiece cover, we build M1A/M14 decarb reamers, Benelli M4 Titanium bolt handles, Benelli M4 full length titanium magazine tubes with aftermarket premium feed springs (available seperately), and have built limitted runs of Benelli M4 titanium bodied collapsible stocks that work with OEM recoil tubes, and believe it or not, we also do 5 shot big-bore conversions for Ruger Blackhawks, based on experience gleaned from brief tenure as a Freedom Arms employee. Experience acquired working in the PWS facility at Quantico, VA developing brass processors for reloading, Double Distinguished having served on the USMC Rifle Team from 1998-2003 , with the exception of 1999 when I was on the USMC pistol team. Combat Action, Meritorious Service, Navy Commendation to name a few. But humble to a fault in spite of these credentials. I have been there and done that but prefer to keep my iron in the same fire as my countrymen, never looking down my nose at ANYONE regardless of their stature or lack of it.   8. I am a bit disapointed that Benelli uses sub-par materials in such a high end shotgun. The springs are relatively inexpensive so it seems to me why not upgrade the materials, tempering etc. etc.

    To have a malfunction is to be expected in ANY weapon platform. It can and eventually will happen. But to have malfunctions on a regular basis from a weapon right out of the box with no cure other than to replace a component (mag spring) with an aftermarket replacement is unexceptable.

    I think Benelli should step up to the plate and offer a better spring that does not compress like what we are seeing.

    I have had 30 round AR mags loaded for years on end with no noticable loss in performance.

    Anyway, I am in the same boat and would like to have a shotgun that will unload all the rounds, from the first to the last.

Our M4's arrived with mag springs which averaged 26"-27" new, and would "set" at differing lengths (seldom less than 25" unless left loaded to the gills for months on end), similar to what others have encountered. Benelli admitedly uses springs from the lowest bidder, not made in house. They kink easily as well... never a good sign, and indicative of less than optimal materials and/or tempering.

     

    Wolff's 12ga mag tube springs are usually the correct O.D., yet cut/fashioned from their stand-by .040" wire for 12 ga. apps in general. Benelli "usually" uses .042" wire. Wolff's 12 ga mag springs are available in 40 inch cut to length offerings from Brownells, and Walt Wolff previously (as of Nov 20, 2008) stated they had no catalog item for the M4. We now have 250 custom springs taylor made for us by W.C. Wolff in .042 wire dia, with deuce-and-a-half wraps at each end (just like OEM), that arrive to us at 32-1/2" in length. We arrived at that configuration by replicating scenarios that led to failure by user's accounts, and personal experience, such as; Shooting downhill, either from ledge, roof-top, or otherwise steep incline, and from certain hi-inertia loads that would cause the last few rds to "hover" ahead of the shell release mech until delinquent for ejection onto elevator (missing the door). Once we were able to ELIMINATE FTF (failure to feed) incidents with the .040" wire (at 35.5" o.a.l), we calculated the corresponding length where the same spring rate could be attained utilizing .042" wire in order to take advantage of Wolff's inherent "plus 15%" power rating over similar sized wire. End result is what we did final testing on.

    While asking 20 users their opinion might yield 20 differing plausible answers, we actually gleaned our data from actual accounts of FTF issues encountered by M4 owners who approached us, or reported issues on forums such as these. Our first accounts (mine) were in combat and combat related training (USMC Retired 1983-2005). Yes everyone struggles with these issues. And yes they do occur with increased regularity w/ FL tubes. Unlike the previous post where the user remedied with M1 springs, our M1 springs would NOT mate with our followers (M1 springs O.D. was too large to fit into the M4 follower)

     

    If anyone is interested in obtaining one of these springs, they are offered to the public by "carriercomp" in cooperation with W.C. Wolff Co.   10. What luck have you guys een that are using the Wolff springs? I am seeing the last rounds jam too. I am using the D.M.W.'s One piece full length tube with the spring that comes with it. I am going to use the factory Benelli spring and see if that cures it.

    I have also noticed that it only jams when I use field load. When I use Federal full power 00 buck it runs perfect. Maybe the field loads are short stroking slightly and that is causing the jams?

  11. Is there a date/year production code stamped on our shotguns. I have an M4 that I just picked up. I bought this private party. I was told that it has never been fired (aside from factory test fire) I can see that it has been fired but I do not see any wear on it. I am just wondering how new the gun is.

  12. I don't really understand the question/issue.

     

    There already is a buffer. That's what the recoil tube, and the buffer spring is for. There is no need for a plastic or whatever buffer like there is in some other guns.

     

    That being said, I've never noticed anything unusual about racking my m4.

     

    Ill use the AR 15 as an example. On the rear of the buffer there is a small rubber "knob" that is desinged to lessen the impact of the buffer when the weapon is fired.

     

    On the Benelli there seems to be "metal to metal" contact as the carrier moves all the way to te rear when cycled by hand. Buffer Technologies offers aftermarket buffers for some firearms to help lessen this impact when firing.

    Case in point. My Ruger 10/22 used to do this. I replaced the factory rear pin with a rubber coated rear pin. Belive it or not it is much smoother and quiter to shoot.

  13. I just picked up my Benelli M4 from my dealer. I noticed that when I cycle the bolt/carrier all the way to the rear that it makes a rather loud/noticable contact with the reciever. I know this is most likely normal. Do you notice this on yours? Does anyone make a buffer to lessen the impact of these Two components?

  14. One more thing to think about. Ethanol was introduced in part to reduce emission by way of neutral carbon emssions.

    What is ******** is that "they" dont say anything about the increased truck traffic, increased diesel consumption being burned by trucks that transport Ethanol. And not to mention the increased petro chemicals that are needed to grow the corn. And lets not forget the damage to our rivers and streams from all the runoff from these crops.

    There is no perfect replacement for petro fuels but until the crude oil in the ground becomes far too expensive to extract from the ground we will continue to use it.

  15. Ethanol offers some serious performance benefits if you build the engine specifically for it and take that into account during your fuel system setup and fuel mapping. Roughly every half point in compression that you add, is 15hp more. Since E85 allows 13-15:1 vs. the current industry cap of around 11.5:1, you are gaining an easy 50 horses with an E85 specific engine.

     

    Keep in mind that refineries reduce the octane on the base gasoline so that when adding ethanol the octane rating hits the target number.

    Now if they left the original ocatane rating of the base gasoline then added the Ethanol that would be a different story.
