Well I went ahead and got the 18.5". $1279 after rebate and I'll have it in a few days. Can't beat that with a stick! I've already got a CarrierComp Ti tube en route. Do y'all think I should send it to C-Rums to have the loading gate welded to prevent "Benelli thumb" during loading?

So are 14" M4 barrels even available? I guess I was under the impression that they were not.

Another idea I've had as of late is to buy a 14" M2 (instead of the M4) and then later buy an extended barrel (20"+), clamp, and mag tube for competition shooting. With the M4 not being as popular amongst the competition community, it seems that there aren't as many extended tubes and barrels available (beyond 18.5") as there are for the M1 and M2. IDK...what do y'all think about this?

I don't know, I don't think I'd ever want to go to a longer barrel if I went to the trouble of getting the shorter one. I wouldn't be gaining any mag capacity, just a longer barrel. Don't think I'd do that.

It's great to hear the different viewpoints. I'm a cop so going with the Entry was naturally my first instinct. But it's not going to be for duty use (at least not for now) so I probably have no need for it. My main thinking was really for the weight savings--I'm not that big of a guy. After handling the 18.5" though, I think it'll be fine. And like y'all said, I can always get another one later.

Alright, checked out the 18.5" M4 today. Really wasn't bad! I think I'll stick with it and spare the hassle of the SBS for now. Plus, the money's burning a hole in my pocket and I believe Impact Guns said it'd be 3-6 months for the SBS (not to mention the ATF form). I also might try my hand in a little 3-gun at some point and it wouldn't hurt to have a gun that's halfway decent at that (although I see that most people actually prefer 20"+ guns for that). Anyway, looks like I'll stick with the 18.5". I'm pretty sure I'll still be the only guy on the block with a Benelli M4.

Just learned that my local Gander Mountain has an 18.5" M4 in stock. I'm gonna go check it out here in a few to see what I think. I'll report back later.

Guys, I'm really torn. I can't decide if I should go with the 14" M4 Entry or just get the standard 18.5" M4. I don't mind doing the whole NFA process for the Entry--I've done it before for an SBR. But there's no sense in bothering with the added hassle, expense, wait (!), and reduced shell capacity if it isn't really necessary. If only I could handle an 18.5" gun first then maybe I'd know if it felt too long or the weight was a bit on the high side for me. But I don't believe any of the retailers around here stock them. So I thought I'd ask for y'all's opinions. What do you think I should do? Is the 14" really any better or is the 18.5" fine as-is?

I don't have a dog in this fight and I am certainly of the belief that you can never have too much ammo. But with that having been said, that is a very antiquated system by today's standards.

Eagle is good gear, nothing wrong with it. I run SOE pouches on an Eagle plate carrier for my active shooter rig. Be advised though, Eagle is not a custom shop like SOE and much of it is sewn overseas, if that matters to you.

Negative, it's sewn up like that in bomb-proof fashion. If you truly want modularity, you can buy a PALS-only micro rig and then buy the PALS versions of the shotgun pouches (and then the medical pouch or other pouch if you prefer). Be advised though, it will cost you a good bit more in the end to do it this way. + You can also special order a left handed version where the shotgun pouches are swapped and are sewn onto the right side of the rig. That'd be the easiest option if you're just left handed and looking for something that's easier to reach. Each of those rigs are hand sewn in Tennessee so it's not like they can't accommodate special requests. Just contact John Willis at [email protected]. Tell him AggiePhil from Get Off The X sent you.

Were you able to purchase it with the collapsible stock already installed or did you have to buy that later? Where did you buy the gun from if you don't mind me asking?

Anyone know what it is about the Surefire 617LF that keeps it from fitting on the M4? Perhaps it could be modified to fit?

While the Sidearmor setup is nice for giving you lots of rail space (too much, IMO), the problem with it is that you're adding a lot of weight simply for the sake of having rail space....and in areas where you don't really need the rail space (i.e., you want your white light as far forward as possible to cut down on barrel shadowing, not further back where the Sidearmor rails are). Again, it does allow for a very clean looking setup but IMO it's a huge weight sacrifice just to have a little ol' weaponlight. As unsexy as it may be, I think I'll be going with the highest quality clamp-style magazine tube rail mount available (surely there's one better than that KZ version from Botach, of all places?) and a TLR-1 with maybe a UniMax Green.

You're gonna have a huge amount of barrel shadowing with the light mounted that far back, FYI. Looks cool but not very practical.

Just got off the phone with someone at Impact Guns. I called to ask about the availability of collapsible stock 18.5" M4s since they only list the fixed stock versions on their website. Just last week I talked to their NFA guy about the availability of the M4 Entry and he said that they're ordering fixed AND collapsible stock 14" guns left and right. Since then though, I've decided to go with an 18.5" gun...but I still want the collapsible stock, which he said only adds about $100 to the purchase price. Anyway, I told her that I just wanted to confirm that this is in fact an option on the 18.5" since it wasn't listed on their site. She checked with her manager, got back to me, and said that Benelli is no longer exporting M4s with the collapsible stocks into the US. Is this true??? I'm new to the whole Benelli scene so maybe there's something I don't know here but I would think that if it's a $100 option on the M4 Entry, it'd be an option on the 18.5" M4 too. Is this news to anyone else?

No, but if the irons co-witness through the tube, it doesn't really need to be. Red dot goes belly-up (unlikely with the Aimpoint Micro), you use your irons through it and drive on. If you do want to add a quick release capability to the original (and super low) Aimpoint Micro mount, Google "aimpoint micro lrp conversion kit" and you'll find a $35 option which will give you just that. Just my $0.02, but if you CAN co-witness...you should.
