  1. I pulled the fastener and took some measurements. The allen head units are YSF 010.9 rated, overall length is 22mm. Head diameter is 7.77mm. Thread pitch is a metric 0.7mm coarse pitch. This is as close as I could find to it:

    http://www.mcmaster.com/#socket-head-cap-screws/=3l1xcqryszialeogs4

Will they fit? I can't say for certain. I'm certain the threads will match and the length should be appropriate. What I am uncertain about is the bottom profile of the fastener where it mates with the lock washer.

As for more damage to the stock, the screws that hold the rubber butt pad could be rusting. The problem is you'll have a difficult time removing the screws from the buttpad in order to replace them. I tried a few times to get them out and gave up. They'd be difficult to remove without damaging the buttpad.

There are a few steel pins inside the stock that engage the notches on the receiver extension. The unlock button itself is also steel. The rest is aluminum and plastic.

    Awesome info SD, thank you!

I may just be better off selling it to someone less discerning than I am for a discount and buying new for myself

  2. Good info 12508. This is one of the inline upgrades that occurred at some point with Benelli. I believe the original M4 produced for the Marine Corps was issued with the philips head fasteners. I know Botach at some point sourced a bunch of these older model collapsible stocks. Most who bought them were reporting that they came with a free sample of Iraqi/Afghanistan dirt in them.

I've noted a lot of military gear is moving away from philips fasteners. One of the big reasons is to keep grunts from taking things apart that they shouldn't. Hexhead screws are certainly better. You can apply a proper torque load with less chance of stripping out the fastener. This is assuming you know how to properly seat the hexhead tool into the bit. This may seem like common sense, but I have found many do not ensure that the tool is seated fully to the bottom of the fastener. The more tool you have into the fastener, the larger the area that the torque load is spread. This reduces the chance of ovaling out the hole.

Fastener quality isn't always known either. If you've ever spent a lot of time at a place like McMaster-Carr, you know that there is a wide range in quality and treatments available. I have tried sourcing some of the small parts for the Benelli at these kind of sites. They are difficult or impossible to find. Or you'll have to find a European source. An example of this would be the top rail fasteners for the M4.

What I would do is call Benelli and tell them about the issue. Chances are they may send you three replacements. That way you don't get stuck paying over 30 dollars for three fasteners. I imagine the hexhead and the philips bits are threaded the same. Just be careful not to lose the lock washers beneath each fastener.

Last time I talked to benelli, they said flat out, they do not do parts. Is there anywhere to get replacement hex screws, or anyone know the length and thread pitch?

I'm wondering if there are any other metal parts in the assembly that could be rusted/damaged as well

  3. All newer ones come with HEX screws , that's how they come except no rust. Probably been sitting in the cold soaking up moisture.

Is there any spec info or place to get replacement hex screws? Can't find them on numrich

  4. They are hex on top of the stock. I left it with my SOT/FFL as it is coming with an SBS (some 4 months down the road). I'm thinking I might just pick up another one here on the board and sell the rusty one off later at a discount (maybe even order replacement screws). Both of the parts were loose in the box with no plastic or other cardboard and it looked like the stock had been attached at least once. The grip was covered in some sort of fibers. I really don't like paying $250 for a rusty item, who knows what else is wrong with the thing.

*note: I did NOT buy my stock from anyone here on the forum*

  5. As I mentioned before, I have one on mine. The first time I took my M4 out, my thumbnail got cut up pretty bad loading with the existing shell elevator. Call it inexperience or what you will, but I didn't have similar problems with the TTI.

  6. Unfortunately, I'm the wrong person to ask! It's been a safe queen ever since. Only two places to shoot shotguns around here, about an hour away at the outdoor range (slugs only) and downtown at Gander Mountain (slugs only, outrageously expensive).

Finish does look great though, I did order a Larue RMR Mount (and had it NP3'd also) and am waiting on the RMR since last month (slow Trijicon)

    http://www.opticsplanet.com/trijicon-rmr-nickel-boron-dual-illum-sight-9-0-moa-green-dot-reticle.html

In other, sad news, I went to install a Larue short mount on my Aimpoint H-1 to put on my M4 SBS (eventually) and stripped one of the screw holes :( Let's hope Aimpoint is willing to fix it!

  7. Yeah, well I would strongly consider sending this back but they don't seem to want to even have a conversation with me. After my second email:

"The streaking is mostly likely due to them not being cleaned prior to coming out of the NP3 tank. As for the takedown pins, we have a trail of emails where I told you we never received any in the box but just in case were willing to replace them. As for parts being uncoated, etc. I have forwarded these emails to my GM for further review."

Yeah, they lost the takedown pins that I had included before and they replaced and re-coated a new set (which is fine), but the ones they coated and put in look brighter than the rest of the receiver (with the exception of the captured trigger pins) which look like bright steel.

As I mentioned before, really really disappointed in this service and I'm not sure I would ever use them again.

I never heard back from the "GM", I never got as much as a "sorry about that", but as far as I'm concerned that castle nut, extended pins, and end plate are hideous and unusable, the buffer tube has a gigantic streak, the takedown pins and captured trigger pin screws look bright and uncoated, and the lower has a big stained area around the trigger guard.

    I don't feel like I paid half-ass price, but I got half-ass work and 1/4-ass customer service.

  8. It was all cosmetic, but some kinda ugly. It came back PERFECT the first time and I went and screwed it up by having it laser engraved after the fact. I believe the heat from the laser caused some darkening around the engraving that was impossible to remove, so I paid for the entire lower and parts to be re-done. Other than the pictures in this thread, the captured trigger pin screws and the takedown pins appear to be coated in something other than NP3+, as they have a much brighter look to them.

In this thread you can see a lot of the complaints (minus the pins)

  9. Carrier comp tube on order

    Will be getting the:

    Geissele Hammer

    FFT Trigger

    FFT Disconnector

    TTI Shell Elevator

    GG&G Bolt Release

    FFT Follower

Either Asgard Top Rail for QD Saddle or possibly Scalarworks

Most Likely an RMR05-G or RMR05-C

Possibly collapsible stock, the standard LOP is just way too long for me

    Might Pass On:

    TTI Oversize Safety

Seems just a bit too big and bulky from the pictures

    Carriercomp follower

Plastic seems kinda cheap, thinking of the FFT Alum

    Bolt Handle

Can't get carrier comp anymore and the FFT was a horrible fit, the standard benelli isn't bad though

    Never thought about Night Sights

I would like to get Robar to do it, but the last refinish they did for me was crap and they didn't want to respond to my emails. Had to send it twice and still got a "meh, who cares" response even though the finish on several pieces was clearly not done well. I'm really disappointed with their service on this one.

I asked specifically about sending them an NFA weapon and they said they do it, just send it in like normal, no paperwork required. I feel somewhat uneasy about that. ATF is somewhat unclear, they "recommend" a temporary non-tax transfer just to avoid the appearance of an illegal transfer. It would "seem" to be legal just to send it out for refinishing and have them send it back, but I more than want to "seem" out of jail

  10. The full length one I have is heavy as heck with the surefire foreend, foregrip, muzzle brake, asgard shell holders. I think I'll build this one super light. I'm not totally sold on the rail with the RMR cutout built in, I'm a big guy and that may be just too low for me, plus I do like the Asgard detachable rail setup.

Any thoughts on the RMR cutout rail?

  11. Sweet! I wasn't sure, I had never seen a model with the rifle-looking stock before. I had also seen some website saying versions several years ago did not have the proper tube cuts.

If I end up buying this, I'm gonna need SD for the future trigger work and H&K for the stock when I get there :)

  12. Looking at potentially buying an m4 entry model. Found one #11723 but it has the standard looking rifle stock (non pistol grip even).

Anyone know if you can put the 3 position collapsible stock on these with pistol grip? Is the stock tube cut for all 3 positions?

  13. I also did it as well, I'm very risk averse. Besides, actually spending the money gives you a better product. The full length mag tube from CarrierComp is compliant, no need for an extension, and it's lighter/stronger than the original. The follower from FFT is brighter colored and aluminum, so it should hold up longer. The Geissele hammer is more preferred than the Benelli stock hammer, and I believe FFT sells a virtually identical foreend (or you could always buy the FFT disconnector).

Once you buy it all, you'll have a better, compliant, and more re-sell-able weapon.

I did it. I did it because I have too much to lose to get caught with an illegal weapon and face federal charges. Probably nobody is ever going to come up to you at a range and demand to inspect your shotgun for compliance.

It doesn't happen that way. It happens like an accident or peripheral to some other incident. It's worth the insurance and peace of mind to me.

Possessing illegal weapons is not something to scoff at if you value your lifestyle, home, job, etc., etc.

  14. Ok fine. I have the standard PG stock, not the C stock. How does the OEM recoil pad come off?

    Oh yet another lesson learned!

Two tiny tiny little holes in the buttpad of your stock. A phillips screw about 3/4" deep in each hole. It strips easily, do not use any loctite for reassembly.

It does help to put a drop of oil in before removal and before re-insertion to not mess up the rubber. I would not attempt to remove the screws from the buttpad, just unscrew straight from teh stock. You can get a replacement buttpad and screws (about $75 total, ask me how I know...because I do)

Also, from what I remember, the Noveske plate tends to not line up perfectly, so you may have to file it down a tad

Also, the best limbsaver pad you can get is a close fit, but will still have a couple of small plastic humps that reside on either side of the stock

  15. You can use the limbsaver with the Noveske adapter on the NON-COLLAPSIBLE stock.

However, if you got the collapsible stock, it will no longer collapse past the longest rod with the Noveske adapter installed. (Ask me how i know....cause I do)

So, before I order stuff that won't work, I understand that you can install a Limbsaver recoil pad on an M4 pistol grip stock if you install this Noveske adapter plate?

Is this the correct recoil pad to use on a pistol grip stock?

    Anyone do it? Problems? Issues?

  16. Both are good but I second the dot. With a large one like the RM05 has you can quite easily slice your target with the top of the dot to get extra precision when you have a lot of time to think about your shot.

Either way, let us know which you chose and how it's working out for you.

I went with the 05C. It has at least a month on backorder from just about everywhere at the moment though. I got mine at OpticsPlanet. They have a heck of a deal going on right now
