  1. Won't give advice on what ammo anyone should use with a 12ga for home defense. But as already mentioned....best to be thoroughly informed about your local laws.

In any case, IMO nowadays with all that has happened in the world of "justice" I would not COUNT on anything shaking out fairly even in a justified home defense shooting. What state you reside in can make a difference.

So many freak DA's and judges have been insidiously infiltrated into the system now to the point where the scales are tipped disastrously.

Just delivered.  It came fully assembled and the extra sling plate is not needed.  MGW should really update their site.

I like this stock a lot more.

I don’t think my Vortex razor red dot is gonna work anymore, at least not on this factory mount.  Seems to sit too high.  I could make it work on the PG stock but not sure on this one. Need to get outside and do some shooting.

I'm curious as to why they supply an additional sling plate. Do they both accommodate a 1" sling? Or is one for a 1" and the other will fit a 1-1/4" sling?

That is one reason why I changed both of mine to the NOVESKE QD plate.....the OEM plate limits you to using a 1" sling. Or at least that used to be how they came from the factory.

  3. For the M4 trigger housing tools I would add a decent pair of snap ring pliers with the proper size tips to remove and install the rather stout snap ring that retains the hammer pin in an M4 housing. Looks like the M2 housing that is being swapped in the video only has a c-clip and not a tough snap ring that the M4 has for retaining that pin.

Also add a plastic bench block such as the guy in the video is using which makes the job easier.

As for whether to choose the OEM aluminum or the A&S, it's up to you but the A&S is a much nicer, finely finished smooth piece than the often roughly cast looking OEM aluminum housing.

One other tip; if you're thinking that you're going to "upgrade" your OEM housing guts with some aftermarket "better" parts, my advice is to be careful where you get them from. There are several posts on this forum about a certain suppliers aftermarket trigger housing parts that don't fit well, and need some filing, adjusting or tweaking of some sort to make them work. My advice is to just use all the OEM guts from the existing housing unless you can resurrect a Geissele hammer.

  4. Are you saying that your new field stock came with all the guts disassembled from the stock?

I have never seen a Benelli OEM stock that did not come from the factory fully assembled with butt pad and sling plate already installed.

All you should have to do is remove the trigger group from the receiver then unscrew the existing stock and screw on the replacement stock to the extension. Just like that.

  5. IMO, it just looks like yet another example of how the finish work at Benelli has slipped in the last few years. There are multiple posts on this board from people who have issues just like yours and other things too.

I would not worry about it as it will not affect functioning or strength or safety, it's just sloppy finish work IMO.

I suppose they just don't care to take the time to make the bolt face mirror smooth like they used to. Another corner cut at the expense of cosmetics. Too bad, and should not be that way in a high end firearm.

  6.

Probably nothing but some good pics would help a lot in diagnosing. Doing a search here will show that fairly recently some others who have had the same inquiry as you and posted up some pics were advised in most cases IIRC, that it's normal left over machining marks on the bolt face and no concern needed.

Took my M4 to the range today to sight in my optic for slugs.   Dialed it in at 25 yards and consistently shot about three inch groups of three.  Moved to the 50 yard range and the first three shots hit about the same, maybe around 4 to 5 inch groups, but then the next 4 or 5, depending on how many shells were in the gun, were much lower, maybe a foot or so, and kept creeping downward.   Thought maybe it was me but this happened every time I stopped to reload and check shots.  Shooting from a bench and practicing what I consider good technique.  Using the stock choke as well, modified if I remember correctly.  Any ideas what I'm seeing here?

With the M4 having a screw-in choke, you probably should not be shooting slugs using the modified choke that comes with the M4. The M1014 has a thicker barrel mouth and even tho it is a modified choke diameter, that thickness allows for shooting slugs safely.

Benelli says it is not safe to shoot rifled slugs thru any choke other than a cylinder or improved cylinder choke. The exception being the M1014, not having a screw-in choke.

Not saying that is absolutely what caused the anomaly you are experiencing but, try using a Cyl or IC choke.

  8. No expert here either but, just using common sense it points me in the direction of the extractor too Or the spring that the extractor is under pressure with. OR maybe your chamber is slightly undersize or not polished well, so that when the chamber heats up and  the hulls are compressed tightly against the walls, it just makes it a hair too tight and the extractor slips off the head of the shell. Maybe a combination of the two things?

Just going by what you say that it doesn't occur until the barrel is good and hot.

  9. I have to admit, I had no idea what an M26 MASS was....so I looked it up.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M26_Modular_Accessory_Shotgun_System

All I can say is, what a stupid freaking contraption that is! Looks super fragile like if you dropped it or banged it hard against something it would break or knock something out of whack.

Who would like to lug around such a contraption? How unwieldy do you think that thing is to handle? Who comes up with these brilliant ideas?

    Stupid.

    Hey guys,

Hope all is well with everyone. So my question (of many) today is, what is your favorite choke?

I understand that different chokes are for different shot, but are a few questions on this.

    Favorite company

    Favorite choke for buck

    Favorite choke for bird

    Favorite choke for slug

What would be the best choke for using Federal flight control

Thanks, guys for all your input I appreciate it more than you guys know and I take all your comments seriously and into consideration for everything I'm doing with my M4.

I just have the TruLock/Benelli branded ones.

I pretty much use only one choke, an IC, because I have had good results pattern-wise with FED FC 00 buck and accuracy wise with slugs again using FED TRUBALL, FED LE, and the hot 1600 FPS stuff Federal offers. So I just leave the IC choke in.

Believe it or not, I have never fired any ammo thru the gun but 00 buck, #1 buck and slugs in the 9 years I've owned it and don't even have anything but that in my stash, just never bought any.

Yes Evolution it is the right one. I got the orange and the luminesent green. I like both A LOT. I go back and forth on which i like better. The orange is awesome for day time and dot is easy to see at night. The lumi green is good in day time but really shines at night. I m using the lumi green right now. I ll swap them out in a few weeks and give the orange a try. Sorry didn t respond quicker

Ha! I just ordered 1 of each like you have. I am a minimalist when it comes to mods for this gun....this front sight post seems an improvement and worth it.

The M1014 unlike the M4 has a fixed modified choke and thicker barrel which takes all ammo, the M4 has removable chokes if needed & the barrel is thinner at the exit.

Probably why Benelli recommends no choke more restrictive than an Improved Cylinder in the M4 for rifled slugs.

The M4, I wouldn't be shooting slugs with, that's just me though.

Perfectly safe using only either a Cylinder, or Improved Cylinder choke. From Benelli's own website.

  13. Thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully as you say, you have solved the issue. In any case thru this you have gained intimate knowledge of the operating system and how the parts interact and rely on each other to an extent, for flawless operation of the gun.

You probably heard all this before but, a couple points....

One also should remember that many times aftermarket parts do not immediately "fit" because there may be a thousandth more here or a thousandth less there when made, that requires some fitting or in some cases, just plain won't work.

It's been recommended that one mod be done at a time, test ok, then do another so it takes the guesswork out of what's causing a malfunction.

Post back after you fire it to let us know.👍🙂

    Gun Stuff

Quick question when you replaced your OEM trigger housing did it need to be replaced or is available to purchase?

My H20 M4 (2014) came with the OEM original cast aluminum trigger housing. All was good. Then when the A&S trigger housing came on the market and was shown here on this forum, I saw how superior it was to the OEM housing as far as machining and finish was concerned, so I decided to buy one. I was one of the first 100 to buy one.

For a 2K firearm, the A&S housing is not a necessity but, a significant improvement over OEM.

I am not interested in getting rid of any of my OEM parts, just because.

  15. If you have not already seen it, this is what Benelli says;

Which chokes are recommended for slugs?

These chokes are recommended for slugs:

    • 4 notches = Improved cylinder
    • 5 notches = Cylinder

A cylinder choke is recommended for shooting rifled slugs in a smooth-bore barrel. Sabot slugs should only be shot through our fully-rifled slug barrels.

It is not safe to shoot slugs through chokes tighter than those listed here.

That said, some people do shoot slugs thru a modified choke and claim no issues. I don't because Benelli apparently doesn't think it's safe.

The 7 card interferes with my hands on a 500, maybe I just have big hands.

Well, ya know what they say.....to each, his own. But having installed the 5 round card on my 590, I completely agree with you and am glad I saw your post on this.

I placed the 5 card all the way forward just even with the face of the receiver and can see how a seven round card would go well past the part of the receiver where it slopes down to the stock wrist.

I would not like that situation. It would seem the only way to compensate for that would be to move the card way forward of the receivers face but then it might interfere with the slide and/or fore end.

The five round card is a perfect fit IMO. But....everyone's got their own opinions....🙂
