Is it actually plastic or does the pictures online just make it look that way
In the pic, what you’re seeing is actually a rubber cover, but yes the scope is made of fiberglass reinforced nylon. The same as the optic that comes stock on the H&K G36.

From somebody that 3D prints a lot of parts, that is definitely not one you want to do. There’s no filaments that can handle that.

I have seen it done. I asked the guy how he did it but wouldn’t divulge the state secrets. Not even what model the stock was for. ?

I’ve had the most success with the Federal TruBall. You can get it with different velocities.

I went through several videos of the Hayl rail installation and should have relied on my first intuition which was similar to other product reviews. Using very tiny set screws to force fit this rail to the M4 frame 1) damages the finish on the frame, 2) is susceptible to slipping without permanent set screw lock tight, and 3) makes removal of the rail nearly impossible without stripping the set screws. Two of the four set screws did strip when I removed the rail forcing me to purchase a stripped set screw removal tool. While the other options in the market do not have the aesthetics that the Hayl Rail does, the stable mount is more important. One word of caution DO NOT PURCHASE the Truckee forend because it simply will not fit the M4. There is no way to pass the forend beyond the M4 gas pistons without "using a hammer". I tried many angles to install that rail, both directions, rotating both directions. There is a reason why there is NO Video showing the installation of the Truckee forend. Noone would be willing to do this live because it can't be done without potential damage to the firearm IMO. I have found other similar feedback. As of now, over 3 weeks of e-mails, phone calls, Mesa Tactical customer service has not sent return postage for the Truckee. The quest to find the best overall rail continues. I put the standard rail back on my M4 until someone provides a solid alternative. I'm looking at the Raven foreend, the Briley, and the Agency Arms (hate the look of those silver screws).
I had the Hayl rail and the feel was great, but like you mentioned the set screws was an issue. At the time there weren’t any better options, but that changed when Briley and Agency came out with their Mlok options. I ended up getting the long Briley rail. They have a shorter one that is the same size as the factory handguard , but I wanted the longer one so my light sits as far forward as possible. I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s rock solid yet removable with no tools. The endless amount of Mlok slots makes setting things up to your liking easier.

After two very intense training classes, my setup has held up perfectly. The level 2 class really pushed us to try every possible scenario and shooting position under the sun. That also helped confirm that my setup works well in less than optimal circumstances. Couldn’t be happier with the Briley long handguard. It helps put the light much further forward which is optimal. The Federal Flight Control 00 buck in the M4 practically performs like a slug out to 15 yards. At 30 yards I was still getting all 8 pellets in the “A” box. Federal TruBall 1300 fps slug is nearly as accurate as shooting with a rifle. I got solid reliable hits out to 100 yards. The faster versions of TruBall slug can probably reach further. Between the two classes and a bunch of training and testing before the classes, I have experimented with a bunch of different ammo. In the proximity of 5000 shots. My conclusion is that anything that is faster than 1250 fps runs reliably 100% of the time. 1200 fps runs 50-75% of the time depending on manufacturer. Even slugs at 1200 don’t cycle reliably all the time. The golden number is definitely 1250 fps. The more I train with the M4, the more I fall in love with it. My only beef with it is the pistol grip, but without having a shorter option of the field stock, this is it for now

If we’re adding FDE weaons in the mix, I can definitely contribute.

Nice!
We’re outfitting a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone for long range target hit identification. It broadcasts the video back to the phone for quick identification. We land it right in front of the target to save power. A couple big rocks protect it from errant shots that land short.
This range had some safe forward observer positions. The spotters would report back corrections and hits.

I had completely forgotten I had this other black gun. Steyr SSG-08 in 300 win mag with a S&B 3-20x56. Most amazing bolt gun I’ve ever owned. Trigger is fully adjustable in every which way possible right from the factory. Successfully hit human silhouette targets out to 2km with Berger 230 grain handloads.

The reason I chose the RSA was because I already had one that used to be on my H&K UMP. The second reason is that it has an incorporated quick release mount, so if it fails, I can just dump it and run the irons. Light as hell too. I’ve run it through many shotgun classes with zero issues.
