Titanium/A2-GenII Hybrid M4 Bolt Knobs

During the time we have discussed producing our revised replacement handle for the Benelli M4, several people have asked how much the gen-II version would weigh.

We never were keen on whittling weight until we reached a magic #... that tends to breed weak parts. Instead we "swagged" a figure to the best of our ability utilizing a postal scale that only measured in ounces, alternately comparing the figures to Cosmos analysis within our Solidworks 3D modeling software.

Well... we finally sprang for that scale which reads in grams. Here's what we found (according to our scale);

  • The OEM steel knob is 11.7 grams
  • Our GenII Hybrid is 9.4 grams
  • Our discontinued solid titanium knob was 8.0 grams...

In summarry we intentionally bear an extra 1.4 grams in order to regain the structural integrity of a component whose collateral duties include (according to the owner's manual) torqing on and off the piston skirts much like a mini-lug wrench. That task will mar any titanium regardless of grade or temper.

A heat treated tool steel/titanium hybrid costs much more to produce than the ti variants we sold for $41 each.

The new "Hybrids"... $47

Thank you for the related inquiries. That interest is motivating, and highly appreciated.

Kip

Good stuff. The price is very reasonable too.

Anything at or under stock weight is good to go. When do you expect to start selling them? I am planning to buy three.

Also, I saw the solidworks renderings of the FIST in your gallery. Very interesting looking. Is there a method of retracting the bayonet? Such as reversing it in its mount?

Cabo,

We're having the ti portion PVD/CVD coated along with our disconnectors to defray the minimum charge where the service is being done... only hold-up on running them is an engineering safety sign-off letter necessary to approve the coating proposed for the disconnectors.

If the letter fails to materialize by the time we return from the Shot Show on the 23rd, we'll send the knobs in (along with a component for another product we are releasing) with or without the disconnectors and simply absorb the budget dents (hi minimum to CVD/PVD coat limitted parts volume)down the road.

Hope that made sense. Every effort is being made to attain "lean" manufg costs which is reflected in our MSRP... oh and it's also why our receptionist is also a machine operator and often can't hear the phone.

I'll take one as well. Thanks Kip.

Spoke with Kip a few days ago. He is still waiting on the Safety Certification Sign-off letters for the Disconnect & Hammer. Kip believes he should see them in a couple of weeks or at least before end of February.

And once that happens, how long until the bolt handles are actually ready?
