Does anybody run their M4 without the top rail?

Recommended Posts

You could put a dab of black silicon in the receiver holes and it would protect the threads. It would be easy to pick out if you decided to attach the rail down the road.

There are a few examples of SAE / metric thread sizes being interchangeable; 8-40 and M4 x .75 coarse thread screws are within a few thousandth's of each other; certainly for plug screws that have no tension, they are suitable substitutes and much more readily available. It's the only threaded part on the Benelli I know of where SAE can be used. There are some third party reports the factory specifies a 8-40 thread however I have never seen it in factory documents.
