Hello everyone,

New to the forums and to the M4 family

Was wanting to get everyone's opinion on what upgrades are a must have for a M4

I already have a RMR w Scalarworks M4 mount but thats it

I know a 7 round magazine tube is a must and adjustable stock(impossible to find) and I think im gonna replace the handguard

Is there any other suggestions? Also if anyone has any of those or other accessories for sale let me know I'm definitely interested especially a magazine tube

Thanks

I would suggest getting a shorter fixed stock (Mesa Tactical) rather than the adjustable.

The 7 round tube is a must and you may want to add an extension (+2 or +3).

Before getting into other mods, we would need to know: What are you going to use the gun for? (Home protection, 3-gun competition, or just a Tacti-cool plinker)

Just home defense and some casual range time

And really I thought the adjustable stock was the must have. Is the mesa stock available or is it as unavailable as the adjustable haha

i am a relatively new owner (sept '20), so i can describe my thought process for this. for me the mesa tactical urbino was the best choice, as i do not need to change the length of pull in any use case that i have and i prefer the aesthetic of the fixed stock over the adjustable. i agree about 7 round extension (making sure that you are in 922r compliance). a larger, grippier charging handle is nice as well with a number of options available (the no spin type is best, i have FFT 1/2" steel).

light/sling mount with weapons light is also important to me. wide range of price/quality available, and the photo sections of this forum can offer some inspiring examples of these as well as other great enhancements.

enjoy ...

Sling and light. A long gun sucks if you can’t sling it when you need your hands to do other tasks. Having to keep both hands on along gun without a sling is very limiting. I like the BlueForceGear padded two point sling. Sewn in QD sockets are nice. IWC makes a socket for the collapsible stock. Noveske makes one for the fixed oem stocks.

I’d look at Modlite offerings for a light. The PLHv2 is very good for the shotgun. Put it on an IWC mount.

I’d stick with the oem hand guards or get the FFT reproduction ones if you’re chasing 922 parts. Have them stippled by Tango Industries.

Install either the Carriercomp titanium magazine tube or the Briley carbon fiber one. Briley will be the lighter of the two.
Oem steel: 10.5 ounces

Carriercomp titanium: 5.5 ounces

Briley carbon fiber/stainless steel: 3.4 ounces

Install a Limbsaver buttpad on the stock. There are various options depending on what stock you settle on.

Replace the trigger frame with an A&S Engineering one. Have Briley install their trigger kit or install a FFT kit yourself. Add a FFT enhanced shell elevator. Replace the safety with a Dave’s Metal Works one.

Add a GG&G oversized bolt release. Look at the new TTI stainless bolt handle.

Consider deleting the iron sights to declutter your optics sight picture and to cut about 4-5 ounces of weight.

From there, the only way up involved NP3 plating and loading port modifications.

Slings I'm set on. I have about 10(I have a problem lol)

I ended up ordering the strike Industries hayl handguard. Do u recommend or know anyone that has experience mounting a light to its mlok or still recommend the iwc?

I got a tube off Socom guy here on the forums along with a Wolff spring just in case I need it

Ordered the mesa tactical urbino stock for now w the limbsaver

Ordered a TTI oversized bolt release and safety(hopefully they are as good, didnt see your recommendations before I ordered)

Only thing left is the trigger, is installing it difficult? I have basic knowledge and tools. I can build ars and such but never messed with shotguns much

Thank u for the detailed write up

The trigger kit is pretty easy to install. I wrote a tutorial with photos here. I find the Benelli trigger pack to be quite easy. No difficult spring to compress or complex assemblies.

Arisaka or IWC will have MLOK mounts for the Strike Industries rail. You can probably get by mounting to the MLOK rather than adding an IWC That rail is pretty comfortable, but the attachment system sucks with tiny set screws. Some users have used RTV to build up a mounting bed for the rail so that those set screws aren’t needed.

If anyone is looking for a black 7rd magazine tube, www.davesmetalworks.com has it available. He doesn't have the H20 which is what I need.

Did you talk to SOCOMguy, whose post was just above yours. He just made a titanium Cerakote tube for me, perfect color match.
