SBE 2 Cartridge Drop Lever not returning to down position

Hey there.  I've got an SBE2 and have put 1000s of rounds through it over the years.  This season I noticed the Cartridge Drop Lever (the button on the side of the trigger assembly which holds the bolt back when pressed) is not returning to the down position (so the red dot shows) after I fire.  To get it to return as expected, I need to press a lever on the inside of the action, "clicking" the button down.

Any idea why this is?  The gun is very well cleaned and this has never happened before.

Thanks,

Brad

Here's some additional info I just sent Benelli:

I have a Super Black Eagle 2 and when I fire, the cartridge drop lever does not remain in the down position, causing the action to remain open after the first shot.  To "fix" the issue, I must press the  ejector on the inside of the action to close the action.

Same issue, different scenario: When gun is unloaded, I dry fire it and the portion of the cartridge drop lever that should remain exposed retracts inside the action.  I pull back the bolt (with some force since it feels almost stuck) and the action remains open since the cartridge drop lever "pressed itself".  I press the button to close the action, and the cartridge drop lever appears once again, but only slightly and the action stays open once again.  If I open and close the action a few times, the cartridge drop lever seems to jolt itself back down as originally expected, which would allow a subsequent fire if the gun were loaded.

Any idea what is wrong?  If I have to send it in to Benelli, how long is your current lead time?

Thanks,

Brad

The Cartridge Drop Lever works along side of the Carrier Latch, without seeing the gun it would be tough to assess.  I am currently working the a Franchi Affinity 3 20 gauge with similar issues.

If you would like to PM me I could try to assist as I am completing the Franchi.

Thanks

Your SBE 2 sound like a bent Carrier Latch, do you have a magazine extension on your gun?

Just curious, did you ever get a definitive solution on this?

I also have the same issue, I've had my sbe 2 for 15 years and have fired 1000's of heavy waterfowl rounds through it. My cartridge drop lever gets stuck up and I need to stick my finger in the bottom of the carrier and press the carrier latch back in, it locks closed and the I can continue to cycle shells. I've changed every spring on the gun, and the issue persists.

At this point I plan on purchasing a new trigger assembly, but if someone has a better idea, I would be all ears.

Thanks for the help

Please PM me, it sound like your carrier latch is not in alignment with the drop shells lever.  Having worked on over 1050 Benelli the repair is not extensive, buying a new trigger pack is not needed.
