rocivo
Hi there! I have a wooden stock that has some dents and the finish has been removed in those areas so I'm planning to sand them out. I'm wondering what kind of finish is used on these wood stocks because I've tried thinner and stripper but they don't seem to remove it. i saw some example on the http://customcraftltd.com/ . I end up having to scrape and sand repeatedly, and it would be great to know the type of finish they use since it appears to be durable, hard, and flexible. Ben elLes
I have one with an oil finish. I’d imagine sanding and stripping it would be a problem as it soaks into the wood. To fix this finish you just clean it and apply some linseed oil and let cure and repeat as necessary
RxArms
Boiled linseed oil, over and over and over again until you are satisfied with the wood. You can buff between applications. to get old finish off you might need to sand it completely. Edited May 10 by RxArms
blfuller
Before you sand the dents out, try steaming them out with a damp cloth and an iron. May work better than sanding. Birchwood-Casey's Tru Oil is a very forgiving oil finish. Just depends on what sort of finish you are trying to obtain.
