I HAVE EXCELLENT NEWS!!!

The gunsmith I have given mine to just called to ask me a question and I asked him about how he was making out with the conversion. He believes that this will not be a problem. His only question was that he did not think he could match the original finish of the recoil can. I told him to just blue it (so it is protected).

He also told me that Benelli would not sell the LE recoil can to him either for use on a M1014. They claim there is some difference (besides it being fully collapsable) that makes it unsuitable for use on a M1014. He thought they would have sold it to him if he said it was to replace an m4. But he though it would be easier to machine the original than wait for the part and perhaps have to make other mods to make it work. He also though they were difficult to deal with (read A-Holes).

I WILL post who did this work once I know it was completed satisfactorily. I promised he would get more business from some of you if it works out well.

He did not tell me when it would be ready.

I FOUND OUT! it CAN be removed! A BENELLI dealer finally did a few. The tube is held in place by a white powdery substance similar to GREEN LOCTITE. The white stuff is just the ITALIAN version put on by BENELLI FACTORY ITALY. To remove you must take off the double nuts, then use HEAT to break the hold of the white substance. Thats it.

The smith finished the modification. He said he will try shipping it back to me tomorrow. I had a 30 minute chat with him. He sure knows his business! Here is what he told me.

He went to Benelli and got all the schematics, so he knew how to machine the existing can so it would work.

There are some lock washers, and some spanning nuts that hold the recoil can onto the reciever. That and some kind of green 'Locktite'. It would require a lot of heat to remove the recoil can from the reciever. To apply that much heat, all the parts would have to be removed from the receiver, sights, everything. Otherwise the heat would ruin the springs. Recoil springs would have to be replaced. The recoil can is made of stainless steel, is very thick, so it is very strong and could take the milling without weakening it.

There is a small pin that is semi-premanently attached in the stock near the release button that he had to remove. He was able to put the whole receiver, with the can attached into the milling machine to flatten out the can so that the stock can slide fully. He then used a special tool to make small groves in the can that will lock the stock in various positions.

Now the negatives. He said that he could ot refinish the stainless steel can in the same way it came from the factory. He suggested letting the bare metal show where it was milled off and where he put in the notches. He mentioned some sorts of paints, but he though that was tacky. He could not blue it because it was stainless steel.

The stock is no longer removable. That semi-permanent pin is what keeps the stock from coming completely off when you expand the stock to the furtherst rear position. You would have to punch out the pin in order to remove the stock. And this pin is 'pinched' in so it won't just fall out.

He also said that if this shotgun had to be refinished, it would be a nightmare to do! This was because of the various combinations of materials used.

Is said that he will charge me about $120 for the job. But I will wait for the final bill.

He said that even though it was a PITA, he would be willing to do it for others now that he figured it out.

I would suggest that everyone wait until I get it back and make sure it functions satisfactorily before contacting him. Here is his web site:

Will post my final thoughts here soon.

Please post the contact information for the BENELLI CLASS3 guy I am ready to have this POS retro- fitted.

What was the total cost?

What about the warranty issues?

Will the warranty be voided even when Benelli factory parts have been used?

Has Benelli given their blessing on this solution?

I was just going to post that the tube is held on with a loc-tite type substance. Not exactly permanate, just need to apply heat, as has been said.

I would recommend Gun Kote to refinish the tube. It's easy to put on. I think the matte black would look great.

Hello Benelli Forum members!

This is my first post and I am happy to meet you all.

Today I noticed in my online dealer act a NIB Left over M1014 at one of my Distributors.

Priced at $1195.00

Like most of you here the first thing that came to mind was getting that good looking stock to do the right thing.

After reading through this thread I am not sure buying the 1014 would be a wise choice now.

Trying to finagle the damm thing to work.

As a dealer and LEO I believe I can order a 11707P with both stocks.

I guess my ? is now that the ban has lifted and the tables are turned in our favor would you 1014 owners still lay down $1200.00 bucks for a fixed Skel stock model?

I love my M1014,it has that fixed choke barrell, patterns really well and no other chokes to fool with or come loose,I bought mine for the heavy duty fixed barrell, and the gas system,I'll simply change stocks when the time comes, anyone who purchases an M1014 at anytime will always come out a winner no matter what stock is on it////------//////////////M1014{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ smile.gif

I would have serious doubts about buying a Benelli at all considering the unsatisfactory way in which Benelli has handled the whole collapsible stock issue on the M1014. The customer service was substandard and I was lied to on several occasions. If I can get the buffer tube replaced then I will keep the shotgun otherwise I plan on selling it and buying a HK. This will be the last Benelli I ever purchase as it has not been a positive experience.

I hear what you are saying about their customer service.

My present Benelli is a Camo Super Black Eagle.

When I purchased it I had also grabbed an accessory bag containing the Camo Ext tube\parts.

Needless to say when I got everything home the ext tube would not fit.

( one thread was a so slightly buggered I could not get it to start ).

Several calls to Benelli and 17 months later still no replacement tube.

Heck, it took three different people and over an hour before anyone on the phone could figure out what the ext tube was.

As a matter of fact ( It’s been so long ) if I remember correctly they sent me the part schematic for the shotgun via fax.

This was for me to “ circle the part " I was talking about and then to fax back to them!

Still no tube over 1 ½ years later.

Fair enough, though I've already stated it prior: Benelli has denied a difference in bbl. profile between M1014 & M4S90 to me, via phone & email; the only thing mentioned was of the choke options available for the latter. Additionally, I can find no mention of a specific "heavy bbl." profile anywhere in any of the company's literature, or even in rag-test articles. I have two M4S90's en route & due to arrive soon (I hope. Been a month now). I'll attempt to locate an M1014 for comparison purposes. Shouldn't be too hard.

Try emailing or calling Benelli direct & ask the same question, see what they say.

As far as I know, the collapsible stock for the m4 has not changed. You'll know real fast if it works or not when you try to put it on. Your buffer tube needs to have notches cut into it, or else it will not collapse.

Like I said in your other allcaps thread, take out the trigger assembly and twist the stock off.

please excuse the caps. quite frankly i think the capitalization issue is childish. try reading any web site's EULA statement sometime they're usually ALL caps.

if a person hears voices yelling in their ears while reading i would suggest they see a knowledgeable Psychiatrist A.S.A.P. i can't imagine a user of firearms being sensitive to a little NON-EXISTANT NOISE.

however i DO appreciate your helpful advice, thank you very much. i'll do my best to comply with your request. i hate rocking the boat.

what do you mean about bumping 2 year old threads?
