Montefeltro Difficult to Unload/Feeding Problem

I just got a new 12g. Montefeltro -- the first Benelli I've owned. I've had two issues with it, and I'm hoping someone might be able to help resolve them.

In going through the operating procedures, I noticed that unloading shells from the magazine is quite difficult. You must press VERY hard, and at the very front of the "cartridge retaining lever” (shell-stop) to free a round from the magazine. Is this typical?

I fired at least 300 rounds of different brands of ammo through the gun with no problems whatsoever. But, the last time I shot it, I had a problem getting the carrier to lift the shell up to the chamber when pushing the "carrier button.” With the bolt locked back, I'd drop a shell onto the carrier. I would then push the carrier button, but the bolt wouldn't move forward, nor would the carrier lift the shell. It almost seemed like the front of the shell would catch at the top of the magazine tube; fiddling around with the position of the shell would clear the problem. These were cheap shells, but I have not been able to reproduce the problem since, even using shells from the same lot. I tore the gun down, but couldn’t find any obvious defects, and it was relatively clean. Has anyone experienced this problem? Thanks.

to unload shells from the magazine you need to press the silver button above the right side of the trigger guard to release a shell from the magazine, then you need to cycle the action to reset the button to release the next round. A few times I've had the bolt not move forward after pushing the bolt release button, but It will usually release if I pull back on the bolt then let it go. It might have done it because the gun is new and the parts aren't broken in yet. If it doesn't do it anymore I wouldn't worry about it.

I beleive that you are experiensing the same problem that I described at

According to my undestanding the problem can be fixed by changing red color follower. What type of follower was installed in your Montefeltro?

The RIGHT one is supposed to protrude beyond magazine tube and can be black metallic or red plastic which is now being installed in the new M4, M2, etc. The WRONG one is red color plastic and doesn't protrude.

Benelli knows about that issue but doesn't admit and doesm't want to change follower. However they agree that I am not obligated to insert round directly into the chamber. I can drop it on the carrier as well.

That is why I sold my Cordoba and bought Montefeltro with the old black metallic type of follower.

Thanks for the replay Resident. It has a red plastic follower with a ring on the front of it to push the shell farther onto the carrier. So, it sounds like the newer follower, but the problem I'm having seems to be just what you are describing.

I talked to Benelli, and, as you said, they don't admit to knowing of any problem with the followers. I'm thinking of replacing it with the Sure Cycle follower. Two questions:

Has anyone tried the Sure Cycle follower and found that it corrects the problem of the shell hanging up on the top edge of the magazine?

In looking at the schematic of the Montefeltro, it appears as though the only way to remove the magazine tube is to unscrew it from the reciever. Is this the case? Does Benelli Lock-tite the mag tube in place? Thanks.
