  1. How many of you take your SBE II pheasant hunting? I was reading about "the dreaded click" from bumpint the butt of the gun while turkey hunting, and since you are crashing brush while pheasant hunting, I would expect that to happen a lot while you are brush crashing.

Originally purchased my SBEII 2 years ago specifically for pheasant hunting as up to that point it was the only hunting I did. Honestly, at least to this point I have NEVER had 1 problem; rain, shine, cold, bumped, muddied, thrashed, snowed/iced, weed-wacked whatever....never a "dreaded click". In fact, while pheasant hunting w/my SBEII I've had occasion due to terrain to take shots from unusal, varied and sometimes unshouldered positions and have yet to experience any misfeeds, stovepipes, no feeds, dry fires, no cycles, etc.

Fact is I've dropped more 1-shot ringnecks with the SBEII than w/any other firearm I'd used preiously....no brag, the credit goes to the SBEII, the 28 in crio bbl helps too.

With such rock solid performance from the SBEII instilling confidence and the benefit of the ability to customize the SBEII w/such purpose built options as different barrels, steady grip stock, shim kits, etc, etc. the SBEII is so versatile a tool that it has become, for me, a gun for all seasons that has economically allowed me to add deer hunting (w/addition of slug barrel/steady grip/tru-glo R-dot) and turkey hunting (w/addition of 24 in camo barrel/same steady grip/Tru-glo gobbler sights).

I just returned from my first turkey hunt w/the SBEII. Did not bag a gobbler but it was not the fault of the SBEII and it was a great experience, and one that will be repeated (HOPEFULLY W/THE ADDITION OF A BAGGED GOBBLER) beginning this Weds.

But......Gobbler or not, I can report that despite the fact that the rugged, unglaciated upper Mississippi river terrain that was hunted banged us both around a bit, the SBEII took the brunt of the beating and has none-the less undoubtedly held up better than me...... 'course, that's to be expected, after all, I've got 50 years on the SBEII :>)

  2. 1- Using or have used a Steady Grip set up in the field ?

Care to share experience in so far as differentiation with standard/comfort stock?

2- Have specific Likes/Dislikes/Gotcha's re: field utilization of Steady Grip for Turkey?

3- Who after having used Steady Grip prefer and have gone back to using standard stock?

4- Believe for one reason or another that the Steady Grip is simply not an appropriate or useful add-on/tool in the quest for baggin' Gobblers.

Questions from a first time Turkey Hunter before 1st hunt.

    TIA

    Mike

  3. FYI- Just in case the Gurnee, IL Bass Pro is out-o-ammo, they are to have a "Grand Opening" for a new Bass Pro in Bolingbrook (IL) sometime in April (this month), may already be happening but s'posed to be month long sale. Bolingbrook is not too far from Gurnee....Tri-State to I-55 to Bolingbrook (rte 53 or I-355) 45 mins w/no traffic at traffic flow speeds. Likely to have well stocked shelves (plenty-o-ammo) and maybe better G.O pricing. May be worth checking out....should be updates on their web site.

  4. I have an SBEII in black and wanted to add a Steady Grip. I followed many forum threads concerning the Steady Grip for a while and ultimately as a result ordered a Steady Grip from a posting member (the cut/copy/pasted post follows below). My report is that he price was right, $85.00 plus $6.00 shipping (going rate for SG otherwise seen around $150.00 if available), shipping was fast (5 biz days UPS from west coast to Midwest), service/communication was great, and install was a breeze (thanks in large measure to posts by Tucker301 as well as others), 10 minutes TOPS from removal of OEM stock to install of S.G. I was also very pleasantly surprised to find that; 1- no additional modification (i.e. dremel grinds) of any kind on either the Steady Grip or SBEII was required to get a "factory fit", 2- the Steady Grip Kit I received included a well designed, product specific "spacer" which when plugged integrally into the Steady Grip before installation (a simple plug/pop-in fit) eliminates the unsightly, dirt attracting and potentially finger pinching "space" between the SBEII trigger guard and the Steady Grip, and 3- the stock Benelli OEM Comfortech recoil pad that came with my SBEII fit (with a fair amount of elbow grease) well enough into the Steady Grip so as to be able to use it in place of the much harder recoil pad that was included with the Steady Grip kit. The Benelli OEM (Comfortech) recoil pad is definitely a "snug" fit into the SG and is slightly oversized, but the differential circumference 'fit" is barely noticeable visually. Now, if I can find an "in-stock" source (Google search, Numrich, Cabella's etc., thus far unsuccessful) for a 13.5 inch LOP OEM Comfortech recoil pad I'll have the perfect set up.

  5. From an old 2005 post:

" MegaSports (ph:815-439-4867) in Plainfield, IL (http://www.megasportsfirearms.com) had 2 OEM Benelli rifled slug barrels w/adj iron sights and drilled/tapped. I bought one for around $449.99, matte black, for my SBEII about a week ago so there may be one left.

NOTE: web site won't show availability, you will need to call them. If you do call, make sure you talk to Mike (only 1 there) he knows where they had them stashed, is the guy that sold me mine, and who will know if they have 1 still available.

" W/such good experience w/SBE II I wanted to expand to include turkey & deer hunting as well. Shortly thereafter found and bought a new an OEM Benelli "criobarrel" rifled slug barrel at a local gun shop for $440.00 and also bought the OEM "special" benelli fore end thought to be required. An hour later, installing the slug barrel at home I immediately learned that the slug barrel I bought (Benelli on the box sku#650335080109)w/fit both SBE I & SBE II but that my SBE II (and I suppose other SBE II's) DID NOT require the "special" additional fore end nor did the fore end that came w/my SBEII require any modification to fit w/the slug barrel. Both slug and shot barrels interchange quickly, easily, seamlessly w/one (the stock SBEII) fore end. Returned the special fore end to local gun shop where purchased w/no problems. It is my understanding (but not experience) that the extra fore end is required in order to properly fit the slug barrel to an SBE I that was originally purchased w/shot barrel.

  7. Wanted to get back hunting after decades absent. Among other research, searched this site, and ultimately decided on and bought a new SBEII last year w/28" shot barrel primarily for pheasant hunting w/some practice clay pidgeoning thrown-in (pun intended) periodically. I don't have lots of shotgun experience so I can report that the SBEII (not me) is dead-on accurate and has been 110% reliable new out of the box. The SBEII is an amazing peice of equiment, one **** of a tool and IMO not a bad work of art. Prior shotgun experience mostly many years ago with 20ga. Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight Dad gave me in maybe 1969/70. Still have the Mod 37 (like new) 20 ga. shotgun. W/such good experience w/SBE II I wanted to expand to include turkey & deer hunting as well. Shortly thereafter found and bought a new an OEM Benelli "criobarrel" rifled slug barrel at a local gun shop for $440.00 and also bought the OEM "special" benelli fore end thought to be required. Is there that much of a difference? and if so, what is it? Is it worth it to pay the extra money for the II?

Yes, if you also want to add a slug barrel the slug barrel for SBE and SBEII is exactly the same but the SBE will require that you buy a new fore end (about $100.00). The SBEII on the other hand does not require a new fore end to fit the slug barrel giving a potential saving to you of at least $100.
