  1. Thanks for your response. After fiddling with it for about an hour, I was able to install it. Not sure what the problem was, but problem solved. Thanks again for your help.

    Tom

make sure that when re-installing the trigger group, follow what BM4robbins suggested. you always have to push the bolt release button on the side of the receiver when getting the trigger group back into place. with some practice, it should only take a matter of seconds.

  2. I plan on selling it. It might be a week or so though. I just looked at Sidearmors website. They don't sell the mod 1 anymore. This is a shame because it is much lighter than the mod 2. The mod 1 accepts detachable side rails so you can pick and choose where you need them. The full rail system on the sides can crowd your hand.

    How does 275$ shipped sound?

Along with the full rail, you also get:

    $25.45 2 short side rails

    $38.20 1 long side rail

    $54.95 1 4 round shell carrier

I want to sell all the items together.

I'd be waiting on the tax return to pay anyhow, and the deal sounds good, but I don't want to commit and tie it up if you're able to sell it in front of me. Filed taxes electronically on 2/16, but the website says it can take up to 3 weeks to receive the return.

  3. I'm working on a revised mounting system for the Benelli M4. The Sidearmor is nice, but it is heavy and bulky.

A Surefire M80 is arriving later today. I'm going to add a Magpul AFG to it. Then attach the Surefire Scout to the rail with a GearSector offset mount.

The issue is keeping the ergonomics functional. I've tried the M80 before in the past, and didn't care for it compared to the factory forearm. I intend to use LaRue index clips to cover the rail and to minimize bulk. The AFG may help.

What will be nice is the entire light package will be attached to the M80. The bulky top rail won't be present. So, in theory, you could swap back to the factory handguards easily.

I weighed the factory forearm before. Both halves weigh 5 ounces. A stripped M80 weighs 8 ounces. However, once you start adding rail covers, your weight will increase.

The M80 will count towards 922 compliance too.

For my top rail, I ordered a carriercomp replacement rail. I received it today. It is an extremely nice replacement part. If you plan on mounting anything to the top rail, I'd highly recommend it.

are you going to get rid of the sidearmor rail or hang onto it? I may be interested if the price is right

  4. I had that same mount on my M4 before getting the Gear Sector mount and had no problems with the way it fit.

Are you referring to the Mesa Tactical shotgun barrel clamp? There is no way to make up for the .050" gap between the MT mount inner diameter at .905" and the .850" outer diameter of the Benelli m4 barrel. So that leaves the Insight adapter, or the B&T adapter, both of which mount to the mag tube, which hinders disassembly. Or drop the $300 on the Sidearmor unit.

  5. Please do report back. I also want a simple light-weight mounting option that I won't need to remove for field-stripping. There's got to be something out there that works well.

mount arrived today, and I'm disappointed.

upon unpackaging, it was obvious the anodizing was on the weak side, having some marks on the inside of the mount. the screws which hold the mount together are difficult to fully seat, which isn't too bad of a thing, since they were snug when unscrewing as well.

why did I have to unscrew them? because it doesn't fit. from searching around, I've found that most 870 barrels are .880" in diameter, and the m4 barrel is ~.850" in diameter. not too much of a difference, especially since there is a third mounting screw which is designed to snug the mount onto the barrel due to a relief cut.

the mount was nothing but slop on the barrel, and no amount of tightening on the third screw would have snugged it down. took it off, assembled it and measured, and it has an interior diameter of .905", which after looking at the relief cut designed to tighten the mount down, I don't think there is enough even for the 870 barrel, let alone the m4 barrel.

so in summary, I now have a $70 mount which is useless to me, and it will not fit the Benelli m4, so hopefully it can save others some cash.

  6. I had a mesa tactical 6 round on for awhile, but took it off. I didn't like the weight (minor) and I didn't like the design (major). After awhile of having them loaded the little rubber retention guys would loose their grip. I also found that in courses the extra width of the side saddle frequently was annoying when cutting corners to the left.

There are better/faster ammo/reloading options for 3 gun, and frankly for defense if you can't get it done in 8 rounds of 12ga your problem isn't that you didn't have enough ammo. They are great for looking tacticool though.

The original purpose of these things was for LEO to have a convenient way to carry lethal and non-lethal ammo options at the same time and always with the weapon in question. Then again most crap people hang off their guns these days was made popular by movies and video games than actual real world use.

don't tell the guys at Magpul Dynamics this, especially since every gun in their most recent Art of the Dynamic Shotgun video had a sidesaddle

  7. I decided to order the Mesa Tactical barrel clamp with rail. Clamps onto the barrel only, which should allow for field stripping without having to remove it. Though it is marketed for the 870, I found an external dimension measurement for the 870, and compared it to the external of my m4 barrel, and they are both very close. There appears to be some slack in the mount of the Mesa Tactical clamp, so I will post my results when it arrives.

I can't see spending the $350 for the Sidearmor (with sidesaddle) when I can spend $149 for the barrel clamp and the MT sidesaddle.
