  1. No. Because the 'small' aperture on an AR is for 300+ but really 400-600yards. So I HIGHLY doubt anyone could utilize this with the drop a slug has to even hit a truck at 300+.

Just stick with the standard ghost ring, but if you're looking to dump money into something I'd recommend a shotgun class. The M4 is a nice piece of machinery, but it has just the same limitations that all other shotguns have, it's a good idea to know these limitations. If you really need more for sights, red dot would be far superior to dual aperture sights on a shotgun.

  2. Ugh,

I'm having a very difficult time finding an m1 forearm. Ideally I want a low serial and/or HK marked one, I can't seem to find anything.

I have this surefire/LPC forearm, not sure if I should look to trade someone or sell it outright then buy an m1 factory handguard.

It looks simple enough that another shotgun's handguard could be easily modified to make it work, using a piece of alumium like the surefire uses... maybe like an 1100 part, but I don't have the time for that! :)

I'll keep searching around I guess, although what I need is someone that has one in their closet they won't ever use.

  3. Those are great pics, thanks! So it seems if I have the top in both examples, I'll need the forearm that will fit the short or long lug (seeing as I have the short, I should be ok) but will be better with the top or middle style mag tube as the diameter on those should be the same?

Does the forearm use that lug on the barrel as a mounting surface? If that's the case I wonder if miss matching a short lug with a long cut forearm will allow wobble?

  4. I really like the mesa, and I'll get one for the 870. But, I decided that I'm not going to use the m1 enough to warrant having a side saddle for it.

It's brand new in box, but I did install it. Fits great and doesn't seem to cause any issues with trigger bind (like some side saddles do) but I've decided that I'm just going to keep the extra ammo on me and not the gun. I'll probably change my mind and buy one of these later on, but for now I'm going to run it naked.

    $60 shipped.

  5. Truckcop, thanks for that!

A couple of questions if you don't mind...

By wider you mean the diameter? What is the diameter on the larger or smaller magazine tube? I have no idea if this is an early HK or earliest :)

My barrel has the shorter of the two lugs.

Wait, I'm confused, if the older mag tube is smaller diameter, and you tried to put an old surefire on a new gun, wouldn't the surefire have been too tight vs too loose?

I pulled my surefire forend off, one washer, one wave washer. And ofcourse a round aluminum tube on the end of the surefire with a tapered notch cut out of it that matches up to the barrel.

I'm really thinking of selling the old surefire forend on this and going to a stock one, but I'm not sure what will work yet. I see what you mean about the lug being short not mattering, that's good it seems.

  6. I haven't had a chance to run slugs in my gun yet, and the m1 rifle sights (not ghost ring) appear to be non-adjustable for elevation.

Does anyone know the range they may be set up for? I'm fine learning the hold as it does not seem that I'm going to be installing ghost sights on this gun, but I'd like to know where to start.

  7. This is like my third or fourth post on this gun, my first Benelli so bear with me. :)

Are all the m1 guns a little sharp around the bottom of the receiver? I noticed the edges while feeding dummy rounds. I know there are all sorts of custom work like bolt lightening and port enlarging, does anyone commonly smooth these out?

    Thanks

  8. I have a new-to-me hk marked m1, it's got the very old style Surefire on it (before they were called surefire even!) and I'm not crazy about it, seems heavy for what it is.

I'm considering a factory fore end for it, but I'm having trouble figuring out if it'll fit or not. My serial is m090something iirc. Surefire has a note on their site saying their new weapon lights for that model only fit m1's that are M104800 and above.

I found a guy selling a couple fore ends for a (imo) too high a price but I think they are late model m1.

Do I need to watch for anything or can I buy one of these and make it work? Iirc, there is a note about some models needing two washers or just one.

Thoughts? Anyone have one in a box somewhere?

  9. So I just got a new to me HK marked m1S90. It's 18" barrel, factory one-piece 7 round tube, ghost loads, rifle sights, not ghost :( and etc

I have a shotgun class coming up in a few months and wanted to get as framiliar as possible with my gun before hand.

I just got a Mesa 6round sidesaddle for an m1 in, and I'm not sure about it now. For one, it's a tiny bit larger (height and width) than I would like, and it's a little heavier than I expected.

On the m1 I need to watch weight, and this gun is already a piggy with the old style surefire forend on it.

Up until a few minutes ago I was considering the Mesa 6 + a 4 round caddy. The issue with that is the caddy is sort of a gaming rig. If I ever need my shotgun, I don't really see having the time to belt loop up a caddy as well.

I'm looking at the Raven/Ares clip on velcro holder and that looks like something I might want.

So can anyone share personal experiences or preferences with velcro vs aluminum?
