  1. this may have been covered elsewhere, if so, please provide good link.  Is this really an issue?  powder residue in eyes/face.  shells whizzing by.  Possible flash at night.  I bought a left hand monte to avoid these issues.  If right hand is really OK for leftys it really opens up the buying options.  Opinions please :)

  2. Some will say this is crazy.  There are darn few tactical semi auto shotguns in LEFT Handed, which I require.  I have an almost new left hand Montefeltro 28 inch that I no longer use for sporting clays, trap etc.  I wanted to know if the inertial system would still function with 10 inches less barrel.  It would just be a little lighter, I have heard that heavier is not good.  I would next have the barrel tapped to accept my current chokes and a new bead or front sight applied.  New barrels are really expensive, around $475 so I would probably just cut this one down (can always get a replacement 28 left handed.

So all you savvy benellians, is this totally insane.

Are there recommendations for other left handed semi autos?

3 inch magnums will definitely get your attention, but the recoil pad on the M4 plus the gas system results in no real problems with recoil.  A big hard push, but not a punch.

The cost, not the recoil, makes 3 inch magnums to be used only for special occasions.

maybe should add an external limbsaver pad for my montefeltro.  These are considerably more than 2 3/4 buck or slugs

I suspect these would be worse.  something

These would be even worse.  normal 2 3/4 slugs are much softer than these on my montefeltro.  on a pump these would really hurt without an extra recoil pad.

  5. Winchester Super-x comes in 3 inch #1 buck with 24 pellets.  Patterns great, but the recoil is BRUTAL.  I can shoot 100 skeet loads without complaint, but I was wincing finishing off a box of 5 of these.  Those 24 pellets are .030 diameter and 40 grains each or a whopping 960 grains or 2.19 oz.

Not fun to shoot but some serious kick *ss!  Plenty of penetration, but not too much.  24 pellets gives lots of chances for a vital hit.  I just wish they did not hit me so hard, but in a self defense scenario who cars.

    Has anyone else tried these?

  6. looking a bit closer, the barrel has a welded on loop that is just big enough for that stud at the end of the magazine tube.  I don't think it would be possible to expand without cutting that off and replacing with something that would support an extended tube.  Was just trying to make dual use of my monte.  I am limited to 3+1 in 3 inch magnum and 4+1 in 2 3/4.

  7. Another rookie question.  The manual shows unloading by depressing the carriage release button from inside the magazine well for each shell.  Mine is VERY hard to press and release.  I have seen another technique where you hold up the cartridge release lever up (little red dot now hidden) and just cycle bolt.  It appears to first load, then unload the chamber, ejecting the shells.

Is the cartridge release inside the magazine well usually a SOB to press?

Is the Second technique safe and a better method?

    Thanks

  8. Bought montefeltro for clays,  My first shotgun, very nice!  .  Now doing double duty for Home Defense.  Can a get a short barrel, perhaps for another model.  Looking for low coast if possible,

Other possibility I guess is to by a long barrel and get cut off to min legal length by smith.  The one I find on line are long and pricey $480.

Question #2 is there a magazine extension available, possibly from another model?

Thanks again for any help provided

  9. This may have been discussed previously.  I have seen where some benellis can be ghost loaded.  I tried this with my montefeltro to get 5 total 3 inch shells to load.  Three (max go into magazine.  Supposedly you pull the bolt most of the way back place  #4 directly into the chamber, then push #5 down on the carrier and release the bolt.  My bolt did not seem to want to close. So ist did not work.

Will this work in a montefeltro.  Is it safe or ill advised?

    Thanks

  10. A few newbee questions regarding loading.  Very basic for most of you I'm sure.  I would like to know which method is better, or more correct.

    The manual shows the following.

Cycle and release bolt until Cartridge release lever shows red dot.  Hammer is cocked and now can move carrier to load magazine. Load magazine.  pull back bolt (must hold back), drop to be chambered round into case ejection port, then release lever.

Several videos show a different, and maybe easier approach

Depress cartridge release lever (hammer falls).  pull back bolt (now stays open), drop to be chambered round into case ejection port.  Press the carrier release lever (bolt closes quickly and round chambered.  Now load magazine.

The second method seems easier, as you don't have to hold the bolt back while dropping the round in the ejection port.  Are there pros or cons with either method?  Which is best?
