Anyone tell me how to clean magazine tube?

Can anyone here tell me how I clean or remove the magazine tube on a 2006 Legacy 12 ga.? I thought the magazine tube would unscrew from the receiver. Applied an awful lot of force with a rubber jar lid "gripper", but I could not get it to budge. There appears to be wrench flats on the end of the tube. Is that how you get more force to break the magazine free?
