R1 .308 win ammo & scope mount

Hey everyone, I just ordered my first R1 chambered in .308. I was wondering if there's any ammo recommendations that the gun might like, going to head to the store to pick up a few boxes to try out before deer season hits. I mainly plan to use the rifle for whitetail hunting but also want to try some longer range shooting and plinking. Thanks

Also any recommendations on a scope mount? I am trying to mount directly to the receiver and avoid getting a rail if possible
