Oceansnaps Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Just came back from a Manitoba caribou hunt. Used my Lupo 308 at 240 yards, got the job done ! Hiking out, pack loaded with caribou, through brush, my bolt kept snagging on stuff and opening. It has done this before but it seems to be getting worse. The brush was bad. Is there a 3 position safety available for the Lupo? Aftermarket maybe? My previous go to was a Weatherby Vanguard which has a 3 position safety. I never thought I would miss that, but I do now ! Sally Willis Posted March 24 Posted March 24 That sounds frustrating—and honestly a bit concerning from a safety standpoint. If your bolt is opening while hiking, especially through thick brush, it might be worth checking how tight or worn your bolt handle and detent system are. Sometimes debris, wear, or even lubrication issues can make the bolt easier to lift than it should be. As far as I know, most factory setups for the Lupo don’t include a 3-position safety like the Weatherby Vanguard rifle, and aftermarket options for that specific feature might be pretty limited. You might want to look into a gunsmith inspection there could be a way to increase bolt resistance or adjust tolerances. Another simple workaround some hunters use is carrying with a bit more awareness of bolt position or using a cover when moving through heavy brush. Has anyone here modified their Lupo to make the bolt stiffer or more secure? Geometry Dash Quote
Oceansnaps Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 I found that Stone Glacier makes a very good scope cover, it wraps around the bolt as well. Comes off the gun in a split second when you want it too. It doesn't fix the problem, but it adequately addresses it, and serves to protect the scope as well...which isn't a bad idea for any rifle. Quote

It's worth noting, my Lupo was an early model. If you buy a new Lupo, the safety does in fact lock the bolt in place and this problem is eliminated. On the new ones, there is a little button you can push to release the bolt while the safety is engaged. It is a very nice feature. Quote
