I have an M1 Super 90 with the standard 19" barrel and would like to install Meprolight sights on it. The front sight from Meprolight has a 6-48 thread stud on it. Does one have to drill and tap the barrel to install the Meprolight? I am not sure how the front sight on the M1 is held in place. It also appears that the stud will protrude into the barrel and will certainly interfere with the choke that is installed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
