First of all, it is a lot better to focus on the bird rather than the sight. That said, you can install one of several models of fiber optic sights made by Truglo (Truglo wing and clay shooting) or Hi Viz. These are very easy to install (on the magnetic models all you have to do is pop them in on top of the barrel or the rib), and they do increase the visibility. For skeet use the "Skeet" choke, AKA cylinder choke (five stars, five notches). If you don't have a skeet tube use an improved cylinder choke (four stars, four notches). For trap use either Full choke (one star, one notch), improved modified (two stars, two notches), or modified (three stars, three notches). Is there any way to get a catalog over here in Canada? Please don't tell me to go to my favorite gun store and pick one up. I haven't seen a benelli catalog at the local gun stores in quite some time. The other day I was lucky enough to find a Stoeger catalog, but that's it. No Benelli, Franchi, or Uberti catalogs. Wouldn't Benelli USA like a little more sales from up here? Winchester, Browning, Mossberg, Ruger, and Remington have sent me catalogs via snail mail into Canada. The heavy packing grease may hinder the movements of some parts. It doesn't hurt to remove it and lubricate the gun with a light oil instead. This grease is in there to avoid corrosion during long storage or display periods, not to lubricate moving parts. [ 10-21-2004, 01:25 AM: Message edited by: Slamfire ]

I'm not saying you can't shoot sabots. That is why I wrote "for accuracy purposes". Without rifling (either on the projectile, sabot, or the bore) you cannot induce rotation on the bullet. Without bullet rotation, there is no bullet stability during its flight, leading to a less than stable flight path. So if you don't mind having less than accurate shooting, by all means, go ahead.

For accuracy purposes, it is recommended that you use sabots with a rifled barrel, ideally, or with a rifled choke tube, at a minimum. Otherwise, you'll be better off with a rifled slug instead of a sabot.

Due to the intensity and sheer volume of shells usually fired on the South American dove shoots, many people do not use a 12 ga, they tone it down to 20 ga. If that is not an option, I would recommend a thick recoil pad that you wear over your shoulder (perhaps reinforced with an armored metallic plate ). Dove shoots are also very intense on the gun itself, thus if you take a lesser gun, you run the risk of it breaking down on the field. Some people take more than 1 gun just in case.
