  1. all of my shotguns have 28" barrels. i think this would depend a lot on how you intend to hunt turkey. if you are going to be stalking the birds, then use a short barrel with a full or extra full choke. if your sitting in a blind or heavy cover calling them up, use a longer barrel with a full or extra full. FACT:: a 30"full provides a considerably tighter pattern, than a 21" or 24" is at the same distance. the longer barrel gives you a little more effective range as well. thats why most of the goose guns you see have 32",34", and 36" barrels.

  2. i have an experment for you guys. get a piece of bare steel pipe about 2-3ft long. make sure is not galvinized,or this wont work.sand this pipe till its nice and shiny clean. knock a good size dent in one end [for referance] then list what you used where, from the dent down, about every 3"apply various lubes or protectants. try everything you can think of. try wd-40,3in1 oil, motor oil and anything else you have, or can think of. now put the pipe outside under a lawn sprinkler, leave for a few days, check it often. the proof is in pudding.

  3. check out http://www.natchezss.com they have some steals on scopes. i had a leopold on my 7mm, and noticed it wasnt as clear as it was 15 years ago. i saw a 6x24x50 simmons on natchez for $65.00. im not much on a cheap scope but thought what the hey. im not disappointed at all, its deadly accurate, and clearer than true life. ive ordered another for my wifes 243. check out http://www.sportsmansguide.com as well................nice bears by the way folks...poor ol yogi, he wont be swipin any more pic-a-nic baskets

  4. to actually ANSWER your question. i would probably use8 pellets. 12 or 15 pellets are generaly used when hunting game [deer, varmints] at a greater distance than 30 yds for reasons of " improved pattern".meaning more pellets in the same area.which means a greater chance of hitting your game in a vital area. they come in 8, 9, 12, & 15 pellets.

  5. i have tested a lot of different chokes. i dont see that much differance in choke patterns for say, a cylinder vs skeet, skeet vs imp. cylinder, imp cyl vs mod, and so on. there is a noticable differance in say cylinder vs imp cyl, imp cyl vs imp modified, modified vs full. i will give you the full run down of my test. choke constriction are as follows, cylinder .000", skeet .005", improved cylinder .010", modified .020", improved modified .025" , full .035",extra full .040" all test were done with charles daly automatic 12ga w/ 28" barrel, at a range of 20yds,[60ft] using federal heavy game loads 3 1/4 drams& 1 1/8 oz of # 7 1/2 shot. patterns were measured by diamature, cyl-21ft,skeet-19.5ft, imp cyl-15ft, modified-10ft, imp modified-7ft, full-5.5ft, and extra full-3.5ft. but yes i believe a differance of .007 would make your cyl choke a -cylinder. because in most manufacturers, a cylinder tube has less constriction than a skeet, but some may differ.

  6. my wife shoots a 410 o/u. the 410 may seem like a sissy gun, but is way under estimated. from time to time i like to lay my 12ga. down and shoot a few rounds of 5 stand with it. and i can score just as high with it as i can the 12. 3" shells have very little recoil, and 2 1/2" shells recoil is ZERO, ammo is light, and the gun wieghs around 5lbs. but if you dont reload yourself, shells are fairly expensive.they are a lot of fun to shoot. there are all kinds on gunbroker.com for $125.00 to infinity.

  7. it HAS happend more often than you may know. home invasion has become a very real problem in large cities. my preferance would be 00 buck.a slug could pass through the intruder and walls of your home and fatally wound a member of your family or a neighbor. heck dude, at 15 ft a 2 3/4 feild load of #8 shot would cut someone in half. even with a vest on it would turn him 3 flips and break several ribs, believe my , unless thier on pcp or something thier not going to want a second one.people think of an intruder as some thing like the terminator, 6ft 8",325lbs. in actual truth its just your local dope head 5ft6", 145lbs looking to over power some elderly woman and steal her ssi check. if you shoot anybody with a 12ga anything ,and it does not take them completly off thier feet,....RUN,,,,, but like ive said "to each his own".

  8. i tried it a few weeks ago fo the first time. the first try i got 16 out of 25, second round i got 19 of 25. #4 station shoots it nearly sraight up. i never did hit one on the way up. i have decided its better to get it on its way back down. my favorite is the "rabbit", it can be quite a challenge too.

  9. i m not knocking Benilli, but like 10 ga. said, it is hard to beat an 870 Remington or Mossberg 500. i have the 870/16 ga. that belong to my dad. who was an avid dove, and duck hunter. it still shoots and looks like new.aaahhhh motor oil boys. smear it on and wipe off the excess. it will blow your mind how much smoother the actions work. and i have tryed the other stuff.i didnt care for it myself. but to each his own.

  10. i have used a non detergent 30 wt motor oil inside and out of all my guns for 35 plus years.bolts, automatics, and pumps.i have never had a problem with rust even after having been out in down pour rains for 2-3 days. i have never had any wear problems either. i have a mossberg model 20 single shot 22 that was manufactured in 1934-36. its still tight, it has the original firing pin and ejector. i know because it belong to my grand dad.he was the one who told me to use motor oil. give some thought to what kind of stress your car engine is under.[rpms,s , heat, pressure] a LOT of people will argue this point, but the old timers of long ago used it in a time when your firearm was the family meal ticket. LONG before Rem-oil, True oil and all the other fancy over priced stuff was around. i have moved up with the times, im now using Quaker State 10w-30 synthetic. try it you wont believe the wear protection it provides.....HAPPY MOTORING

  11. i do a lot of coyote hunting on the out skirts of Ft Worth. they are starting to enter the city and suburbs here. they seem to have a taste for small pets [.dogs and cats]. they do semm to have some dificulty digesting 150 grain hollow point 7mm mag rounds. but we are not allowed to hunt cougars/montain lions. they are protected by Texas Parks Wildlife.

  12. its just my opinion, but for distances of 75- 500yds, i,ll use my 7.62x54mm. but at close range, an intruder coming through my front/back door and i hit him/her full in the chest with a 2 3/4 00 mag round @ point blank range, and it does not take him/her completly off their feet. im going to throw the gun at them and RUN!!!!! because chances are that the TERMINATOR just come in my house.

  13. you will find that recoil has a lot to with accuracy in quik repetion. of course thats not as big a factor with a shotgun as a rifle. but can make the differance in a wounded enemy or a dead one. and remember a wounded enemy can shoot back. as far as shot size the bigger shot has deeper penatration. smaller usually has more pellets. you dont always want hardcore penatration for home defense, for the reasons of you dont want the projectile to pass through the intruder and interior walls of your house and possibly kill a member of your family or someone next door. my wifes 357 is loaded with whats called saftey bullets. when they hit a target they fragment and do not pass thru the target. we shot a ft worth phone book with on and it went about half way thru it. when we opened it, we only found slivers of the bullet. the differance between 000 and 00 is really not enough to note. if you have to shoot someone with 00, and doesnt take themm off their feet.....RUN!!
