How does the recoil reducer actually work? I'm guessing it simply adds more mass to the gun. This makes me wonder why they just didn't make the gun heavier in the first place. Is there something special about the mercury that absorbs recoil?

I just bought the recoil reducer for my nova. When I opened the mounting bracket their was a length of rubber hose inside of it where the mercury tube goes. The tube won't fit with the hose in there so I'm assuming it has to be removed. I assumed that the hose was just junk, but then I realized that the mercury tube is shorter than the bracket and slides around. So I'm guessing that the rubber tube is supposed to act as some kind of spacing device, but it'll have to be cut to fit properly. Is this the case? And if so, does the mercury tube mount to the rear of the hose or in front of it? I don't want to cut anything until I'm sure of what I'm doing. The bracket didn't come with any instructions and there was nothing on the Benelli site so I'm a little confused. Thanks for the help.

Hey Sev06, I'm pretty sure the barrels are interchangable. Would you be interested in selling your 18" barrel? I'm looking for one so let me know on here on in an email. Thanks.

I was wondering how much effect the length of the barrel has on the effectiveness (I guess ballistics might be a better word) of a 12 guage shotgun. For example, how much difference would there be between a 24" and 28" barrel? I have some friends who swear on the longer barrels and others who only want shorter. Any ideas?

I'm going to replace the stock recoil pad on my nova with either a slip in Limbsaver or the ComfortTech (made by Benelli?). Can anyone tell me which would be the better choice? Thanks!

Thanks for the info Mudhen, that's very interesting about gun barrels not selling well. It's kind of surprising really. My way of thinking is that a second (different) barrel gives you two guns for the price of one and a half. But maybe most people would rather have two guns. Also interesting is the idea of markup on parts vs. assembled goods. I hadn't really thought of that before, good point. However, I still think that for the sake of a little more production at the Benelli factory, and with direct sales from their website, Benelli could make some cash from those few people like me who want spare barrels. It should be pretty easy for them to set this up, just look at how slick their website is. I still think this would be good business for them for minimal work. I know it would cut out the small store suppliers, but they're still going to be selling complete guns so I don't see them losing that much business. Any thoughts?

That's very interesting about pulling the barrels from the assembly line. I guess the good news is that you get a real factory barrel. You would think that Benelli would see the demand is out there and expand production. That would drop the cost on spare barrels enough that they could actually sell them. Just think about how much money Winchester and Remington make from selling spare barrels. Sound like a good business plan to me. Anyone want to start a new business with me manufacturing aftermarket Benelli barrels?

This morning I tried out my NOVA with 3" magnum slugs. Wow! After firing a full box, the target was completely destroyed but so was my shoulder. I'm tempted to buy the recoil reducer kit but I don't want to spend the money unless it really works. Anybody try this? Thanks.

I really hope the Benelli people are reading this. I love my NOVA, it's a wonderful gun for the difficult environment where I live, but unless I can easily get the parts I need, it'll be the last Benelli I buy. Has anyone every heard of any aftermarket barrels for this gun?

I'm trying to buy an extra barrel for my new NOVA. I currently have the stock 28" for hunting birds but I'd like to have the short 18.5" barrel with sights for protection from bears when I'm working in the woods or out on the ice. I plan to shoot almost exclusively slugs from the 18.5, but I don't want a rifled barrel because I want the ability to shoot shotshells as well. Here is my problem.... where can I buy this barrel? It's listed as an accessory on the benelli web page, but there seems to be no way to buy it. My local gun shop is convinced that it doesn't exist. I looked around online and anywhere that I found it says that it's out of stock. This is really frustrating. Why doesn't benelli sell barrels online? Also, why are the NOVA barrels almost the same price as a new gun? I was hoping to have one gun in the case with the extra barrel tucked in alongside, but now I'm thinking I'll need a second gun. This is very frustrating. Thanks for any help.

I live in Goose Bay, Labrador. I just bought a NOVA pump as a general purpose shotgun. I like partridge hunting and duck hunting. I also need some serious knockdown power for bears (black and polar) so I always carry a few slugs in my pocket just in case. Labrador is a land of extremes. Very dry some days, wet the next. In summer the temperature can get up to +35 C and in winter as low as -45 C. Sorry for the metric temps but I have no experience with farenheit... hey, I'm Canadian My question is, what is the best oil to use in the pump action for this environment? In the winter I'll have the gun in a scabbard on the side of my Skidoo so it'll get very cold. I'm concered that a standard oil will thicken in the extreme cold and gum up the action. That's not what I want to have happen when my engine breaks down and the big white bears spot me on the horizon. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
