I was wondering if anyone tried the Federal 168gr match HPBT ammo in 30-06? I heard it is very good ammo and have recently ordered some but was looking for insight for myself and others in future. Please post if you have tried it. I will re-post once I have tried it.Thanks

Do you actually take the piston appart when you clean it? I do tighten the nut until it stops but I keep the fore end a little looser so that the mag still drops out. I don't think the fore end effects my shooting at all.

Thank for the feedback. I appreciate it. Good to know I am using same ammo as someone else and that my results are typical. Was feeling bad about spending $1,500 bucks on a gun that did not perform as well as bolt action but I feel it serves it's purpose. Have a good one.

Hi. I did notice if I tighten it all the way then the magazine does not drop out. Is that normal?

Looking for help with ammo. I had a very hard time finding the right ammo for my R 1 in 30-06. Tried all the expensive one's with horrible results. Then tried Fusion ammo 180 gr and got best results with that with TSX 180 gr coming in second place. Am shooting 1.5 groups at 100yds with swarovksi scope with BR reticle but want to get better long range. Please give input on your opinion if should stick with the Fusion or try something else. Also, please give examples of shooting results. Thanks for my help and helping future people.

I am new to the R1. I have not been able to get consistent groups with it and am discouraged. I have learned to clean them pretty often but that did not seem to help yesterday. I am wondering if the Limbsaver de-resonator is helping or hurting. Can anyone give input if I should even have it on the gun? Also, does anyone know if the R1 is a fixed or floating barrel? Apparantly it makes a difference on where the de-resonator goes. Thanks in advance for any help. Just trying to get the best I can out of my $1500 gun. Unfortunately I am pretty new to the whole gun and hunting scene but I do love it. Also, I have mounted a Swarovski 6-18x50 scope with BR reticle.
