  1. The shorter the bbl, the less effective the can will be. My M-16 with a 12" bbl is still pretty loud with a can (but it's very, very loud without a can! :) With that said, I'd still like to try this can on my 12" Street Sweeper (but I figure the revolver-like gap between the cylinder and the bbl would reduce the cans levels too). Guess the slight added weight has never been an issue for me. I've got other Silencer Co. cans and they are quality products.

  2. I use a SureFire X300 light (with a modified XT07 switch) mounted to a Nordic Components railed bbl clamp (there's more pics in my Tactical M2 Entry album) I also use an X300 on my M-16A1, Street sweeper, and one of my handguns.attachment.php?attachmentid=398&d=1281904915

  3. On my 14" M2 tactical entry, if I use S&B buckshot (12 pellet) I can only get 4 shells in the tube. If I use Federal (flight control, 9 pellet) buckshot or Slugs (true ball rifled) I can get 5 shells in the tube. All are advertised 2 3/4, but they are slightly different total length. But, it is very close with the S&B (just a hair short from fitting 5), definitely not only half a shell. Might be something not aligned properly? Is the spring seated inside the follower and spring seal ring?

  4. Super Dak, you have a superior collection of nfa items.

Thanks! I had an 1944 MG42 also, but sold it. Couldn't turn down the profit margin (and it was damn near too big for my safe :). Getting sick of the current wait times (11-15 months for a Form 4 !?!?!?!? That's just stupid)

  5. Hey Super Dak.

How is your flashlight mounted? Is that a Nordic clamp?

    Cool gun.

Yes, it's the Nordic bbl/tube clamp with a single rail (you can get a rail for both sides if needed). There are better pics in my photo albums in my profile. Pics of the clamp and the switch.

  6. I've got a Ciener kit in a 10" upper for my M-16, and it runs 100% full auto, with or without a suppressor. Recently got some Black Dog 30 rd gen III mags that work great with it (and load much easier).

  7. If another law would fix the problem, just make murder/killing illegal...oh wait, it already is, so there shouldn't be any problems. Gun laws only apply to law abiding citizens.

While I'm not impressed with either of them, I think a 2nd-termer (without having to worry about getting re-elected) is more dangerous (and Obama has made comments to that end). Besides, Romney said machine guns are illegal, so his ignorance may just help :). Either way, we're all screwed 'cus neither is worth a damn (JMHO).

  8. I'm not a clays guy (more the machine gun/NFA type :) but the're must be a nice range here. My brother loves trap shooting and keeps saying there's a big shoot in Tucson (a Grand) that he wants to come down for. Unless you just mean some open land out in the sticks to shoot on?

  9. I've got a light (SF X300) and a custom 6 shot carrier (on the stock), and it works like a champ. I also tried firing it with the butt stock up against a tree (just 'cus I heard all the rumors about that) and it still functioned flawlessly. I mostly use 2 3/4" Federal LE 9 pel flight control or the true ball slugs, including some low recoil ones. I say try it and see, but that's just me.

  10. I'm pretty happy with what I have, but I've been thinking about getting a transferrable SAR48 full auto. A transferrable MG34 has been a favorite for a long time also, but it's hard to justify two WW II MGs for what they cost.

Can't you put your pics in your user CP albums? That's what I did.

  11. I've got a Nordic Components bbl/tube clamp with a single rail (you can put the rail on either side or get two rails) and mounted a Surefire X300. I also used the XT07 remote switch and I really like the setup. The switch is right where my thumb sits, has two switches (ON and a pressure pad) plus retains the regular light switches. I went with the NC clamp (and the X300) 'cus with the 14" bbl I was really limited on space, but there's plenty of different clamps that would do the job for you. There's a few more pics in my "albums" section. Just an option.

  12. I use the same ammo (9 pel) and found just the opposite. The Fed LE Flight Control 9 Pel is about 2 3/8 long compared to the S&B (12 pel) that's about 2 9/16 long. If I use the S&B I can only get 4 rds in my M2 14" entry gun, but with the Fed LE I get 5 rds. If it helps, the Fed LE true ball rifled slugs are only 2 1/4, so you can always mix a few in and maybe get that extra round in there (the S&Bs are just a hair too long to get 5 rds in, so if it's that close with you and the Fed LE 9 pel, maybe a few slugs will be enough. Just an option). Also, the Fed HV Tactical 9 pel is about 1/16th shorter than the LE stuff I have. That might add up enough to make up the room you need. For what it's worth, I love this ammo (the LE 9 pel).

  13. I use the Federal LE 9 pellet 00 buckshot (with the flight control wad) and it patterns great with my 14" M2 (and in my 12" Street Sweeper). I tried the S&B 12 pellet, but it doesn't do tight patterns in either of my shotguns. I also like the Federal LE true ball rifled slugs. I haven't tries the Win mil stuff.

  14. Why does everyone keep skirting the issue?

There isn't any debate as to if a DI gun works fine, can fire thousand of rounds or can be maintained by a monkey. Thing is that no matter the lubrication status of any of the parts a DI gun is going to need much more than a wipe down after 1000+ rounds, a PD will not.

As for accuracy issues give me a break it is a fricking battle rifle not some match grade target rifle. Then again some still think it's a marketing ploy so who knows what you guys will think of next. Seriously though if you notice the accuracy differences than you shoot an assault rilfe off bags and shouldn't be in this conversation anyway.

The best part of this thread is the fact that I have both kinds of systems and only mentioned obvious pros & cons. I loved my DI wanted nothing to do with a PD AR but after buying one there is no debate as to it's advantages.

You're right, it's a battle rifle. So as long as it functions reliably for thousands of rounds without cleaning, I don't really care if it gets dirtier. Nothing I said was about being cleaner, just reliability. But I'll concede to your expertise on the matter.

  15. Sorry but how dirty a DI operated AR gets is no debate.

And yet mine still functioned flawlessly...what a POS!

Like what you want and go with your own experience as to what works reliably. I just don't care to listen to stories when my experience is different. Maybe I just got lucky and have always been issued the "freak" guns that worked, and then got lucky and bought a freak also. Maybe the rest are all junk. I can only assume that everyone you personally used had tons of problems. Again, guess I just got lucky (a bunch of times).

  16. This "lube" discussion is funny. I've fired over 1000rds after just using graphite from a pencil rubbed on certain parts to lube my M-16 (it was all we had in the desert at the time). Ran like a champ. Did a basic cleaning before hand (these were issued in storage crates and looked like they were tossed into the crates straight out of Viet Nam, still had weeds and mud in them). I have nothing against piston systems, but the DI critics can tend to over-blow the argument a bit. Maybe if I'd had any failures I'd think differently, but like I said, I'll go with my personal experience every time. But maybe I’m wrong.

  17. I wasn't a fan of the AR15/M16 platform, untill I used them throughout my 20 years in the military. After that, I liked it so much I got an AR-15 (as soon as I got back to the states), and later (after I retired) an M-16A1, and have fired thousands of rounds reliebly. The only FTF I ever had was due to a new 10" BBL that was advertised 5.56 but turned out to be 223 (caused it to pop primers). Once I reamed it out to 5.56 it functioned flawlessly again. One FTF in all my experience is enough proof for me to grab it first if the SHTF (and I've got some pretty reliable sub guns). I'll always go with my personal experience over some third hand stories, but that's just me. I also think that if the SHTF for real, finding NATO rounds will be easier than non NATO rounds (after I go through the 8,000 rounds I have stockpiled :) Not to mention spare parts if needed. But to each his own, I’m not worried about what anyone else decides to get, and I haven’t had any bad experiences with the other assult rifles mentioned.

  18. Quick question about these (for those that have them). Do you prefer the aluminum yokes or the poly, and why? How are the yokes attached to the mount? Screws/rivets from the back? Adhesive? (i.e. How hard would it be to remove it from the mount) Not trying to hijack the thread, just wasn't worth a whole new thread :) Thanks.

  19. Ummm, you're not gonna' carry a shotgun for CCW unless it's NFA (end even then it's not practical). My M2 with a 14" bbl and factory PG stock is still 35" long overall. Can't shorten it more without cutting the mag tube (as is, it's 5+1) or hacking the stock off. My Street Sweeper is only 20" total (12" bbl) with the stock folded, but the 12 round cylinder is too wide for CCW. You "might" be OK with one of the super shorties out there (Surbu?) but even they are bulky compared to a handgun. It might seem/feel OK for a little while, but wear one for any amount of time and it'll get old.

Do yourself a favor (if this is a serious thread) and get a nice small handgun. I carried a Ruger P90DC .45 for a while, and even it was too big for realistic CCW. Got a nice Kimber ultra crimson carry .45 (3" 1911) and love it. I can wear it all day long and not even know it's there (neither will anyone else). But that's just my opinion....

IF you need spread shot, the Taurus Judge is your best option.

  20. Since my M2 is NFA, it's in the safe, so it probably won't be used for HD (except for zombie invasion/all-out-war). But I like Federal LE 00 buck (9 pel flight control) and their LE riffled slugs (true ball). It just takes too long to open the safe in an emergency. But my HD / CCW gun stays on/by me at all times (Kimber ultra crimson carry II .45ACP) but that might change when my MG42 transfer is approved :)

  21. As far as obtaining the form 4, they advised you would order the weapon, and the weapon would remain at your FFL until you completed the form 4. Yes, two transfers. Good things are worth waiting for.

I agree, and two transfers is no big deal (it's standard for any out of state NFA purchase). My Sterling was 3 transfers and took 11 months (and it's definately worth it to me!!)

  22. How would you process the form 4 without knowing the serial of the weapon? Seems like you'd have to wait for it to be in stock, transfer it to your C3 dealer, begin the tax stamp. Wait for that to clear, then take possession.

Assuming it's an out of state purchase, you don't start a Form 4 'till after it's already transferred into you class 3 on a Form 3. So yes, the seller couldn't start the Form 3 without having a S/N and the item on-hand (so you get to wait for 2 transfers once the seller actually has it).

Transfers are supposed to be getting faster (compared to last year), but I have three out (two Form 4s and one Form 3) and so far I wouldn't say it's a whole lot faster.

  23. As I posted, I prefer using 2 3/4" rounds over 3" (for a number of reasons) however if and when in the future sugar turns to sh*t optimally one would benefit from having the capability of using 3" rounds as the gun was designed to handle them should one acquire 3" rounds somehow - rather than be limited to 2 3/4".

How long does it take you to empty and reload that Street Sweeper?

Gonna share something with you from personal experience: when one is very seriously injured one is best served with an autoloader as a pump can and will let you down due to being under stressfire and especially if seriously injured. Add the complications involved in keeping track of twin magazines and you have a recipe for deep kimshee. In theory it sounds wonderful, but in practice the outcome will likely be less than desirable.

Like I said, I'm not defending them, nor do I want that gun or plan on getting one. None of my guns are pump, and I don't plan on getting one of those either. So I'm not defending the design, the company, or anyone that does decide to get one. But none of my NFA guns are going to be used for self defense either (short of all out war/zombie invasion). If you need the be-all end-all in tactical, that's great and get what you want. But most people don't need that and just like cool stuff :)

With that said, I can reload the SS in about a minute (don't know what that has to do with anything), and I never compared it to my M2 or any other auto. IF I needed more ammo, I'm just dropping it and grabbing one of my machine guns (obviously having loaded mags is quicker to reload than any tube fed shotgun). The SS is just another toy/investment to me.

  24. According to the Kel-Tec guy at the Kel-Tec booth at the Shot Show this Kel-Tec shotgun is "designed (only) for 2 3/4" shells to function and feed". Who would want a 'modern' shotgun that's limited to 2 3/4" rounds? (although I prefer not shooting 3" rounds, I like the option just in case) The fact that it only "functions and feeds" reliably with 2 3/4" rounds indicates to me overall reliability issues. For a RELIABLE pump shotty which is limited to 2 3/4" rounds I'll continue to depend on my 18.5" Model 12.

I'm not defending Kel-Tec (I've heard plenty of stories about their reliability issues from friends that own them) but I don't understand the argument for 3" shells in a HD/SD shotgun. It's not a hunting gun, so it's most likely only going to see buckshot and slugs (plus less than lethal rounds). But I guess that's just me. I've never even bought 3" shells for my M2 (let alone needed or shot them). My Street Sweeper is only designed for 2 3/4" (aluminum cylinder and barrel) but if 12 rounds of 00 buck won't get the job done, I either need to learn how to shoot better or grab a bigger gun :)
