  1. You are quite correct, I'm way off. I was thinking of the retainer cap for the magazine spring.

For the magazine cap, if you have to use pliers to loosen it, it's way too tight. If you have to use pliers to remove it completely, their may be a problem with the threads.

All of these caps on pump shotguns, should be finger tight -finger loose.

I purchased my Supernova new, but from someone who won it in a drawing. Not sure what you mean about the sheath.

  2. Usually the barrel is removed, to make it easier to remove the mag cap, which is really not removed that often. Using "snap ring" pliers makes the removal much easier and won't tear up the holes.

Not sure what you mean by a plastic barrel sheath. The plastic 3 round limiter rod?

  3. Awesome shotgun!

I too, don't care for shells attached to my Supernova stock.

I use a 6 round "wallet" from Cabelas. I carry it in my hunting knapsack, but it does have a belt clip. I think it was about $5.25 in camo.

  4. Even with all of the corn still standing, the harvest was pretty good here.

My first season out with "The Predator", smooth barrel and rifled slugs, I had a straight shot at a nice buck, but it was about 95 yds. The very next day, I missed a good doe, shooting low with the bead sight + my cruddy eyesight.

For the 2010 season, I decided to take it up a notch! ;)

  5. Got the rings in today. Talk about fitting like a glove! ;)

Just barely put the screws in finger tight and the scope sits nice and snug, with the inserts. Just did the basic fitting and I'll have to wait for the winter storm, to subside before zeroing in.

The burris rings appear to be extremely high quality, expecially for the money.

  6. I recently purchased a new Nova with a 26" field barrel. Can I safely shoot rifled slugs using the cylinder choke tube without damaging the barrel or choke tube? Are any particular slugs better or safer than others?

    Thanks!

The cyl choke is the one that Benelli recommends. Federal Truballs seem to work pretty good and are reasonably priced.

  7. I'm interested in buying my first shotgun, mainly for trap shooting, but I'd also like to be able to hunt with it. I'm basically settled on either the Supernova or the Nova, and as near as I can tell the main difference is the Comfortech stock. How much lighter is the felt recoil on the Supernova than on the Nova? Is it worth the price difference? Again, this will mainly be for trap, so I want to be able to comfortably shoot 100 times or more in a day without killing my shoulder, but, being a grad student, I'd like not to spend too much money.

I've never fired a Nova, but hunting with slugs and practice shooting with 3" mags, makes my Supernova feel like recoil is easier on the shoulder, than any other pump shotgun I have ever fired.

Hard to imagain that a Nova would handle recoil better, with no recoil supression, but some Nova owners say it is so. :)

What's a extra hundred bucks, for a gun that you may shoot for the next 20+ years.

    Comfortech, etc,

At the end of the video, Benelli says it may add Comfortech to the Nova model.

I would think you would have to have one of the above bore sighters to actually bore sight the shotgun and you really think shimming it will be needed? I would think if you used the EGW rail or the weaver mount that it would probably fit nicely without shims? I guess it might need them and shims are cheap! I picked up one of those Leupold Magnetic Zero Point bore sight jobs and for a rifle they are pretty nice and not many wasted shots if you get good with it! Which i am getting better not good! Never had a scope on a shotgun good luck getting it sighted in, was looking at the scope specs and you have plenty of adjustment per it's specs, 100 MOA!!:)

Wow, that is a great price, for a laser sighter! How far in range does it actually go? The specs say 14-100yds.

Considering the huge cost of good sabots, this tool would probably pay for itself pretty quick.

Here is a quicktime video from the Burris that explains it best. Could be marketing hype, but it seems to make sense and again these are supposed to be quality rings for $30.

  10. I have the APG Supernova and the Badger rifled barrel I puchased, was parkerized black. The new 1.65-5x36 Nikon Slughunter only comes in black matte, so the complete camo makeover was out, especially due to cost.

The Burris "Signature" model scope rings, actually have a durable plastic "liner" (in two halves) that fits between the steel ring and the scope. It's supposed to be able to hold the scope in place, but not too tightly, as to damage the scope tube, or possible force the tube out of internal alignment.

The "shims" are actually pieces of liner, but at different thicknesses. For instance, if you wanted to move the front of the scope up, you would use a thinner liner on top and a thicker one the bottom. Left to right, 45 degree angle, same type of deal.

The idea is to be able to initially zero the scope, without having to use the windage or elevation knobs. Supposedly really makes a difference, if the scope mount is way off, or other problems, that could make you use quite a bit of the W/E adjustment to zero the scope, before it hits the field.

For $33 bucks, you probably could not buy the cheapie Weaver brand mounts at Walmart.

    I'm all in.

  11. Good idea.

Have you used the posi-align shims? They look like a great way to set up the scope, when it is initially way out of wack.

I was trying to see if there was a good price for a set of the 1" Weavers, with the shims.

I just purchased the Burris Signature 1" Weaver rings, plus the additional 6pc. shim set for $33.00. Here.

  12. I'm a huge fan of the Burris Signature series.

The inserts insure a perfect fit without lapping, and they protect the scope's finish.

    Good idea.

  13. I just don't understand how anybody can look one of these real American heroes straight in the eye and say he can't fly his flag on a flag pole. Total disrespectful to a degree I can't fathom. Shame on that association.

It's very likely that some the ruling members of one of these so-called "communities", dislikes America in general and could care less about the flag.

It's the new America, not necessarily improved. Not all all a patriots, unfortunately.

  14. What exactly is the question?

Do you need the stock number?

Are you asking for opinions on quality?

Are you looking for a place to buy them?

I was looking for input on what types of scope mounts, other's use and like/dislike.

Should have made my inquiry more clear.

  15. Purchased the Slughunter scope for a slug barrel, wantelever base on my Supernova.

Now I need some good mounts, maybe the Warne QR's.

Reasonably priced will work, around $50 or less.

    Anyone?

  16. Thanks for the input.

Love the APG and the complete camo look, so I'm on the fence, about a black barrel and scope on a gun with APG stock/forearm.

    Anyone?

  17. Anybody ever have a barrel coated with camo?

I have a black slug barrel, that I'm considering getting a coating, to match my APG Supernova. If so, I'll get a camo Slughunter scope.

Curious to what the cost might be and how good of job could be done.

  18. Convenience?

Somewhere, someplace, there probably is a waterfowler, that can limit out regularly, using a bolt action shotgun. :)

Why not have a little more challenge with a pump? If you find you can't hit anything, upgrade to an semi-auto.

Get the shotgun YOU want. A semi-auto will cost nearly double the Nova price.

  19. For an afternoon of blasting heavy clay pots, flying clay birds and half-full paint cans! :)

The first real outing for my new 12ga with the boys. None of the buds have ever fired a Benelli before. They like it and gave it the nickname (since it is APG camo), "The Predator".

I could shoot 2.75 and 3" deer slugs pretty well, but could only hit a small percentage of clay birds, with my cruddy bi-focal glasses.

When firing the 3" 1.25oz deer slugs, one can really appreciate the comfortech stock.

A great afternoon with great friends and a great shotgun.

  20. I have been looking for a slug barrel for my nova forever now, and the nova slug barrels are so high priced, so I thought about just buying a new gun. But then I heard about a barrel that Ithaca made a few years back that fits the benelli nova for about half the price. I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can find one of or have one for sale. Thank You

If you don't find an Ithaca, One of these is on my wish list.

  21. Hard to imagine that in any instance, that having camo in the field, would be a negative, as compared to shiny black. :)

Camo looks pretty cool anyway and the Nova a a nice shotgun. $100 will seem meaningless in a couple of years, of using an enjoyable gun.

I recently puchased a Supernova APG 12GA. I was considering black, but found one brand new in the local ad paper for $400 (the guy won it in a safety raffle at his job). Camo it is!!

No regrets here and you won't have any either.

    Have fun.
