Thanks. Is the Federal Truball a rifled slug or sabot?

I recently purchased a new Nova with a 26" field barrel. Can I safely shoot rifled slugs using the cylinder choke tube without damaging the barrel or choke tube? Are any particular slugs better or safer than others? Thanks!

Thanks all. This is all very helpful. I like the gun even more now!

Thanks NovaKing. I appreciate the info. The 870 WM served me very well for 30 years and it is still a reliable gun but I was looking to try something new in camo. Now I have 2 great guns to choose from.

I've been using an 870 wingmaster for the past 25 years so it is my only point of reference. Bought a Nova on Friday and tried it out this weekend. Shot a few light dove loads and I noticed that when firing the bolt throws back about a 1/4 inch and the chamber is slightly open. I never noticed this on my 870. What will happen when I shoot a high velocity magnum 3 1/2" shell? Is this normal and is there anything I need to be concerned about?

Older Federal Copper Plated Shells in new Nova

Thanks. So just treat it like standard steel shot? Any thought on copper-plated shot for hunting geese? Any idea why did Federal stopped making copper-platted? Back in the day this was the best stuff to use (12-15 years ago). I thought that the copper added weight and density. Maybe it became too expensive to produce. -
Just bought a new Nova. I have a 12 year old box of Federal Copper plated steel shot shells. Can I safely shoot these in my new Nova without damaging the barrel?
