  1. Why don't they make a dedicated fore end weapon light to replace the factory hand guard for the M4? I currently run the M80, but wish Surefire made one like the M1/2...

    Thoughts...?

  2. Guys, I'm really torn. I can't decide if I should go with the 14" M4 Entry or just get the standard 18.5" M4. I don't mind doing the whole NFA process for the Entry--I've done it before for an SBR. But there's no sense in bothering with the added hassle, expense, wait (!), and reduced shell capacity if it isn't really necessary.

If only I could handle an 18.5" gun first then maybe I'd know if it felt too long or the weight was a bit on the high side for me. But I don't believe any of the retailers around here stock them. So I thought I'd ask for y'all's opinions. What do you think I should do? Is the 14" really any better or is the 18.5" fine as-is?

I don't have a 14", but I do know that the barrel alone ran about $900 IIRC. You bring up a great point about differences.

  3. I run a TRIJICON MS03 with a 8 moa dot. I had some mounting issues with an AIMPOINT T-1 on Larue low mount. Dot was way high. I currently run (with the MS03) the factory low picatinny mount with thumb screw. You will need loctite as it does come loose after several rounds.

With the C-stock collapsed the dot will line up perfectly on the front site...

ETA: I want to switch out to an RMR at some point...

  4. jc,

I actually use both and alternate between the two regularly.

MPRO7 - I like this as a cleaner that strips away everything even hints of lube. No smell, so you can clean in a closed environment. You obviously have to add lube after. Oh and it's a little pricey.

BREAKFREE- Your all around go to cleaner, lube and seal. Smells is strong and potent. Comes in a variety to include wipes, spray and aerosol. Packaged deal on this one and it's cheaper...WALMART is about $5.00 a can.

I personally gravitate towards odorless mineral spirits and breakfree to lube. There are better lubes out there such as Machine Gunners, but it is $$$...

  5. Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the club. I like you had the same questions and was lost. The manual linked above is a great resource. Print it out and put it in a binder for easy reference. I use breakfree also but going to try some Slip 2000. Get a bore snake as cleaning for me is easier. It is not that hard once you strip it a few times.

    Good Luck!

  6. UPDATE with new optic: TRIJICON MS03 8MOA red dot with MS17 low mount. This is the optic I have been looking for. With the low mount you get an absolute to 1/3 co-witness with the M4 front sight (even when fully collapsed.

Best pic I could get...when shouldered the red dot is aligned...

    Thanks all...!

  7. Ive got the same light setup on my M4. Not over kill at all! You want to consider investing in a LED head for the M900.. Those factory bulbs really dont do the light any justice at all :D

Do you have a product link?

    Thanks

  8. Looks great, functions great = winning combo

You gonna sell your old VFG?

Maybe...it's a Tango Down QD stubby...I'll let you know...

    Thanks guys for the feedback...

I'll post a quick pic of the beam and minor shadowing...

  9. Here is my M4 with an M80 rail and M900. I just slapped it on today and it's not as heavy as it looks.

    What do you think...? Overkill?

The way the light is set up, the beam is not as obstructed by the barrel. I had a Surefire SCOUT mini with Larue mount on it prior and the barrel and beam on the mini collide more than I would like.
