Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate the detailed list of ideas.
First, I'll answer your questions and provide some clarifications. I use this shotgun for hunting. It's secondary roll would be self-defense. So a bright powerful light is mandatory. I do have a 3 cell Surefire, but I have been hesitant to mount it after the test with foil revealed that the bezel MUST at least be even with the front sight post in order to eliminate the glare. Prior to mounting the RMR with the Scalarworks rail, I had an Aimpoint Micro T1 mounted with an ADM quick detach mount. The glare off of the front sight was just as noticeable.
Out of the 6 suggestions above, I think the only possible solution would be #3. I would also add a #7, which is mount the light on the BOTTOM of the magazine tube. No matter the distance from the muzzle, the splash from the light would be shadowed by the magazine and barrel, thus protecting the front sight from glare.
Does anyone else have any suggestions with regards to a feasible light shroud I could use?
Otherwise, I am afraid I may have to do away with the AVA mount.

Problem with glare using AVA tactical mount
I installed an AVA Tactical mount with a Surefire P2X Fury Defender light. The mount itself is high quality, but I am having a problem with excessive glare off of the front sight. It interferes with the sight picture through the Trijicon RMR sight.
On humid nights, the sight picture is worsened because the downrange image is already diminished by the glare in the atmosphere.
As a test, I made a cone from aluminum foil and wrapped it around the bezel of the light. I slid it forward in 1/2 increments until the glare on the front sight disappeared. This did not occur until the end of the foil cone/tube was just beyond the back edge of the front sight. After that, there was EXCELLENT contrast between the front sight post and the downrange image.
Any suggestions on permanent modifications to achieve the same effect? I am looking for real-world examples.

Any update on this? The Ethos shotgun feel so good in the hand, but it's disappointing to read these reports. C'mon Benelli!!

Check the barrel shadow without the oversized choke/comp. Consider getting a P3X 1000 lumen light. The body is longer and the bezel will extend closer to the end of the barrel.
Sorry for the extremely late reply. (I wasn't receiving notifications properly. ) But thank you for the suggestion. I did buy a P3X. Great light! Super bright! I actually bought another one to keep in my hunting pack. I'll mount it and take some pictures to post on here eventually.
I also need to make a post of my results with multiple types of buckshot with multiple chokes. It was a fun experiment I did while breaking in the M4 with heavy loads.

update: got my M4 back from Benelli. The note in the return box said, that one has tube had a flat spot so the gas piston rod couldn't slide freely. so they replaced the barrel. can't wait to go out to shoot it.

Could the tube have had a flat spot from rough handling or being dropped at the factory during assembly? Just curious.

Love Bobro, but the ADM mounts are slimmer, I think. Bobro is hands down my choice for other things, though.
I agree with you here. I own both. If slim and trim is the goal, ADM is the way to go. Having said that, I do like the design and machining quality of the Bobro, but their quick release mechanism can be a little wide on some applications. Especially those with a charging handle on the side as opposed to the rear, like the AR platform.

The front sight glare was not an issue with the Surefire M80 and Gear Sector mount (far above in post #6). I also didn't have much shadow from the barrel, like I do now with the AVA mount and light. These are downsides to the current AVA setup I have.

The only thing I can see myself doing now is adding a deflector to the bezel of the flashlight to keep light off of the front sight. The reflection / glare is a distraction at night while looking through the Aimpoint.
I also put electrical tape around the barrel and barrel band prior to mounting the AVA.

I put electrical tape around the flashlight cap prior to installation, but I plan to add the snap ring to the back like some of the others have done to the Surefire Fury lights in the AVA mount.

I think I’m done for now. I put the Surefire M80 up for sale on Ebay and installed the AVA with the factory forend. I like the original forend MUCH better the second time around. The Surefire was just too bulky and heavy.

After thinking about it some more, I decided the Surefire M80 forend is not for me. I am going back to the OEM, but only after the AVA Tactical mount for the Surefire P2X Fury Defender arrives. The AVA mount is expensive, but I think it will be worth it in order to lose a 1/4 pound of weight and rid myself of that huge bulky forend that really robs from the ergonomics of the M4.

I’m sitting here swapping back and forth (literally) between the M80 and OEM 2-piece forend. I've had the M80 on for the last year and have no issues with it. Having said that, there is something about the 2-piece forend that I really like. It’s simple and it works. The M80 sticks down cause of that additional rail that I’ll probably never use unless grouping slugs with an Atlas bipod. I only have the M80 on mine because that’s what I was using to mount my Oveready X300 light… but now that I ordered the AVA mount yesterday I doubt I’ll be needing the M80.
These are my exact feelings as well. Because of the bulkiness & weight of the M80, combined with the inability to remove unneeded accessory rails, I am looking for something closer to the OEM forend with the addition of a mount for my light.

The spring is longer than the factory OEM (but you can’ t tell it in the packaging.) The machine work on the magazine tube is superb. The finish is perfect as well. It was worth the wait.

Bipod is overkill, but I use it when testing the buckshot rounds for consistency. I use a benchrest tripod and rear sandbag with a high-power scope when shooting groups with slugs.
After a SIX PLUS month wait, my titanium magazine tube from Carrier Comp arrived yesterday. I sneaked out to the garage with my wife’s hairdryer and got to work on the installation. It broke loose by hand when the receiver temperature reached about 200 degrees.

I am a big fan of #4 buckshot. Here is the difference between the factory Benelli modified choke and a Carlson’s tactical choke that is wide open (more open than cylinder).

Then I added a Surefire Defender light in a Gear Sector mount. I ended up moving it to a lower position that you will see in photos far below. In this high position, the light was reflecting off of my front sight at night and obscuring my vision.
I also installed a Freedom Fighter Tactical titanium ½” charging handle. I have been less than satisfied and have had a few instances where it pulled out easily under use. That has been disappointing and I look forward to changing it out with something better. I am putting the stock one back in for now.
I also added a Surefire forend. It is 4 oz heavier than stock and a little larger than I would like, but it does allow me to clamp on the Surefire and also an occasional bipod. The verdict is still out, but I think I will keep it.
The drop at the comb on the extended Benelli OEM collapsible stock was a turn off. It does not allow for proper eye alignment when using optics or a red dot sight. So, that is why I decided to go with the ATI stock. It too is heavier than I would like, but it is robust as ****. I like the adjustable comb and integrated d-ring for sling attachment.
I have tested multiple types buckshot and I plan on a full report on that in a separate post in the future. Here’s a snapshot of a few types using the factory modified choke tube at 25 yards.

Hi Benelli gang-
This is my first real post here, but I do have to thank the board members for all of the great information I have gathered while lurking on here for quite some time. I always wanted a Benelli M4 and I finally got one. Below are a few pictures and some scant details about my modifications.
I wanted this rig for multiple purposes: hunting , home defense, and the occasional competition. I hunt hogs in the marshes and swamps of southern Louisiana and often get very up close and personal with them, particularly when we are in the tall marsh grass tunnels. For this, I thought a shotgun would be perfect. Why not a bad ass Benelli M4, right?!
At first, I tried an Aimpoint PRO, but that was too bulky and too high. I settled on an Aimpoint T1 on an American Defense Manufacturing (ADM) low mount (Model# AD-T1-L). I love it!
