I have an older model M2 (which I use for turkey hunting) with no tapped holes in the receiver. I want to mount either a red dot or SEE ALL sight on a Weaver rail. I am thinking about getting a Weaver Model 417M rail made for a Mossberg 500, but supposedly will fit the groove in my M2 receiver. I don't see a need for a long rail for either of these sights. Therefore, I propose to cut the rail to the length of the sights and only use two mounting holes. I plan to mount the rail near the rear of the receiver where the material is thicker. What do think of this idea?
