I’m currently running two SuperNovas: a 28" camo bird gun and the 18.5" Tactical (drilled/tapped). I finally managed to track down a Benelli 24" rifled slug barrel and plan to mount it on the Tactical receiver to build a dedicated deer rig.
Since I'm moving from a smoothbore cylinder to a 1:28" (or similar) twist rate, I have a few questions for those who have run this specific setup:
• Ammo Preference: What sabot slugs have you found to be the 'sweet spot' for this barrel? I'm looking at Hornady SSTs or Federal Trophy Coppers, but I'm curious if this barrel prefers a specific grain weight.
• Accuracy/Grouping: For those with this 24" setup, what kind of groups are you seeing at 100 yards? Are you achieving sub 1-2 inch or is 2-3 inches more realistic for this platform?
• Optic Choice: Since my receiver is already drilled and tapped, I’m planning on a rail/scope combo. Did you find that the height of the SuperNova stock required a cheek riser to get a good weld with a scope?
I’d love to hear your experiences or see some target photos before I head to the range.
