YoungBuckTX Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Hey guys, new to the forum and to duck hunting. I went duck hunting last week for the first time, using M choke and winchester xpert hi-velocity #4s. Wood ducks were flyin fast, and maybe 35 yards out. I missed 6 birds. Hoping someone has some reccomendations or pattern pictures to share for the super nova. Thanks. Quote
Feather Buster Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 have you put that choke load combo on paper at the ranges you plan shooting?it will also tell if your point of aim is the same as point of impact. Quote
YoungBuckTX Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Yep, just did. 119 out of 220 pellets at 35yds. I'm guessing that's pretty good? Quote
Feather Buster Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 thats about 50%,i wouldnt go any further than 35 yards with it.it seems that this combo would be great over back peddling decoyed birds.where most shots are under 25 yards.how are your wingshooting skills?have you taken birds on the wing before?there are alot of variables here and it is hard to point at the problem.this load would seem fine for small ducks at close range, even up to 35 yards, large ducks i dont think it would be very effective.i am assuming that the 119 pellets are inside a 30" circle @ 35 yards.i believe if you can get the pattern on the front half of the bird you got him.
