Got original kit for SuperNova, it has grooves on the extension tube to install clamp in two positions, and no instructions.

Some third party manufacturers suggest using masking tape for the part of clamp that touches the barrel.

Two questions I have: does it matter what position to install the clamp on (given two different grooves), and do I need to use masking tape?
