Need help with my Nova

I have a Nova with rifled barrel.

 

I am trying to mount my weaver scope base to the gun.

 

Problem is this....there are these hardened plastic caps which are in the mounting screw holes, and I can't figure out how to remove them.

 

Please help..

If the holes go through, use a bent paper clip to push them out from the underside.

If not, carefully slip the sharp tip of a knife blade under the edge and pry it up.
