quantum Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Hello, I've been reading a lot of the posts regarding the legality of putting magazine extensions, collapsable stocks, etc. on the M1, M3, and M4 shotguns due to the import gun laws (regardless of the AWB sunset). I recently purchased a Nova Tactical shotgun (my first shotgun and first Benelli!) and have ordered (but not installed) the two round magazine extension. My question is if it's legal for me to install that on my Nova? Is it an imported gun or does it fall into the same group as the M1, M3, and M4 regarding the legality of modifications? Thanks for your help! Quote
babalou Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 It doesn't have to do with an extension, it has to do with the magazine capacity. If the mag capacity (2 3/4 inch shells) is 5 or less no problem, whether it has an extension or not. For the M1, no extension=3 rounds, +2 extension=5 rounds, +4=seven rounds; its the last that may be a problem. I'm still waiting for a reply from BATF on the legality of adding a +4 to an imported shotgun. Quote
quantum Posted October 12, 2004 Author Posted October 12, 2004 Ok, I see. Still, the native mag capacity of the Nova is 4 . If I add the the extension, it will be 6. So that may be an issue then, correct? I see all these other home defense and tactical shotguns from other makers (Remington, Winchester, Mossberg) that have 8 and 9 capacity magazines. They're not a problem because they're not imported, is that right? Thanks! Quote
Robert II Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 The law is for Autos. Pump actions are not covered. Best, Robert [ 10-12-2004, 10:51 AM: Message edited by: Robert II ] Quote
babalou Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 The import ban only affects semi-autos, and only imports. Your Nova, being a pump, is unaffected. You can put any extension on you want. Same if you have a US made gun, semi auto or not. This is one of the dumbest gun control laws around. Quote
quantum Posted October 12, 2004 Author Posted October 12, 2004 Thanks for the info. Now if the magazine would just come in at my gunshop! Quote
