Sport II problems

My dad just bought the Sport II and sometimes the bolt won't lock open it locks 1/2 open. It ejects the shell but don't stay open all the way. This gun is used for trap so there is only one shell in at a time so I don't know if it would cycle another shell ok or not. He was using AA 1 1/8 oz. Any thoughts of what might be causing this before he sends it in? Thanks, Damie
