M1 Super 90 Finish

New to the forum, and glad to be here.

I purchased a low round H&K (Sterling VA) stamped M1 Super 90 from Gunbroker. It came complete with all chokes, tool, etc., but no box or factory oil.

Yesterday I decided to give it a good cleaning and put in back into the safe. While I was cleaning it, using standard Remington spray oil, Break Free and a tooth brush, I noticed the black finish start to peel in a few spots. Needless to say I was very shocked. On closer inspection, I found the finish would peel quite easily without assistance. It appears that the gun has a top coat and base coat. The bottom coat is fine, but the top now looks bad in several places. This happened on all parts of the gun, receiver, barrel, trigger assembly.

This is the second black finished M1 Super 90 I have owned and never had this problem before. Did Benelli ever have any finish adhesion issues during the manufacturing process? Is this something the factory could refinish?

Thanks in advance for any insight!
